Review of East Dean Grange Care Home from Maggie G (Daughter of Resident) published on 15 July 2026 Submitted via Postal Card

My mother has been at East Dean since November after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My brother, sister and I are very impressed with the care she has been given. We could not have chosen a better place for her to live out the rest of her life. Special thanks to Anita and Sarah who have made her feel so welcome and at home. The activities and entertainment makes Mum feel she is on holiday!

Review of Barons Down Nursing Home from Sue M (Daughter of Resident) published on 3 July 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I would highly recommend Barons Down Care Home to anyone looking for a caring environment for their loved one. My father has been a resident for 18 months and despite his difficult and often aggressive behaviour due to dementia, he has always been treated with kindness and respect. .I am kept informed of even the smallest health issue and what treatment/action is being taken. Knowing that he is safe and cared for at all times is an enormous relief.

As well as varied activities for residents - and their visitors if they want to join in - there are regular meetings with the manager and her deputy to give residents and relatives the opportunity to ask questions, make suggestions and receive updates on any developments at the home. Visitors are given a warm welcome by the manager, Rahab, her support staff and the carers, which contributes to the friendly atmosphere.

I looked after my mum for 11 years hoping that she'd never have to go to a nursing home. Eventually her needs became too much for me and we took her to Barons Down. I shouldn't have worried as she's actually much happier there. Before, she was tearful, miserable and difficult to live with. Now she's smiling again and I feel I've got my mum back! She is full of praise for the care she receives - everyone is friendly and compassionate - and she has relaxed as she no longer feels she's a burden to me. I visit daily at various times and am warmly greeted by the staff. I am always impressed by the care and kindness shown to the residents. My dealings with the owners have also been helpful and positive. I know this review sounds a bit gushing - there is always room for small improvements - but I feel very lucky that we found Barons Down. There are lots of activities but at 93 mum doesn't want to join in. That's fine - she is happy and that's all that counts.

The kind and caring nature of all the staff at Baronsdown Down really do make all the difference. My father has severe Alzheimer's and his needs are difficult to understand and provide. However, he is extremely relaxed and comfortable with all the nursing staff he interacts with.

They also regularly keep me updated with what's going on with Dad, or any incidents. As a family we have a high level of comfort with the environment provided - well done and thank you.

Our Mother was at Ersham House for some considerable time.

The team was always professional in terms of medical care, hygiene and nutrition. In addition, they were very attentive about our Mother's needs and were warm and caring. This was extremely reassuring for us and made us feel that she was in good hands and truly being looked after.

Review of Ersham House Nursing Home from Jan G (Sister of Resident) published on 9 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My sister Linda was a resident of Ersham House for 3 weeks where she received end of life care. The Manager and staff here are wonderful, Linda was treated with kindness, compassion and patience every day of her stay. The nurses, healthcare assistants, chef and cleaning staff all made such a difference, aswell as the activities organisers and Anma is a great Manager, professional and friendly always. Linda's last few hours were calm, comfortable and pain-free free. Myself and Linda's partner were made welcome always and nothing was too much trouble. We were able to say goodbye and the care Linda received after she passed was dignified and compassionate. Too many staff to name but particularly Dhanya, thank you so much for your kindness at the end. You are all angels. Jan xx

Review of Ersham House Nursing Home from Philip H (Brother of Resident) published on 20 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My brother stayed for over two months at Ersham House. He arrived in a confused state having been removed from his place of residence where he had previously lived for over 50 years. He presented with challenging behaviour, which included mood swings. The staff at the home could not have been more helpful in supporting his adjustment into life in care. They attended to his medical and dietary needs and he responded well to social interaction and activities. My brother had been isolated for a long time, and the staff helped him improve his social skills and build relationships with other residents. When my wife and I visited my brother, the management and staff were very friendly and welcoming and we felt part of the family. They said my brother talked a lot and was a popular resident. We saw him happily engaging in activities and doing things that he had not done before. My brother needed building up and when he left the home he was physically better and mentally calmer.

Mum has been in East Dean Grange for just over five years. She has loved her time there, and has always said that she is well looked after. In the last days of mum's life, the manager and staff went above and beyond in their care for mum, and called us when mum was nearing her passing so that we could be with her.

All the staff are friendly and caring. The manager particularly stands out as a caring, helpful and competent person. Thank you for looking after mum.

Thank you for taking such wonderful care of mum since the Autumn. She has taken a while to settle in and integrate with the other residents, but now seems to be comfortable and accepts her lot. The staff have been great in making her welcome, especially the management. We look forward to a long stay in this lovely environment.

My sister is very well cared for in all areas. The staff look after her every need and always talk to her and give her many cuddles, and are always caring towards her, they all feed her with great care and consideration. She doesn't interact with activities, but they are very good for all who can.

She likes to sit in the office and is always accommodated. They are always welcoming and caring towards me when I phone or visit.

Our mum was given the best care and attention every day of the 9 months that she was resident at East Dean Grange. Every member of staff was kind, considerate and respectful. When mum was in hospital 2 senior members of staff visited her to give her support and reassurance when she was confused and worried. Mum was so well cared for at end of life and so were our family. We are so grateful to the wonderful team and would recommend this great home to any family looking for a loving home for their loved one.

My mother was a resident at Camowen for nearly 3 years until her death earlier this month. She often said the staff are so very kind to her and she loved her meals.

The residents at Camowen are treated as individuals with dignity and compassion. I knew mum was very safe in their care which gave me peace of mind.

Camowen is very good value for money, their pricing is very fair.
