Never been in a home before, respite care only. Took a few days to work out how things worked with staff and surroundings etc. Pleased with the small portions of food, and the staff able to understand my speech. Enjoyed getting visitors coming to see me while I was there. The staff is always helpful
when needed. Can’t remember doing any activities. Preferred to eat in the room, which was comfortable on the whole.
Disappointed with the occasional noise at night, preventing me from sleeping. The en-suite is a bit small to get around with my walker, equipment in the way; and no towel rail. The plug had no chain, difficult to grasp.

My mum has lived at Rectory House for 7 years and in January entered end-of-life care. The staff at the home from the receptionist, tea lady and care and nursing staff were wonderful, supportive and kind. They respected my mum's wishes and kept her dignity to the end. You could tell how fond they were
of her and treated me with kindness at every turn. The staff was lovely and reassuring and Mum had wonderful care until the end.
Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Rectory House Nursing HomeThank you for your kind words and recognition of the team at Rectory House for the care your mum received, we are really sorry to you and your family for your loss. Overall, I visit my mother about 2-3 times a week. She is happy, warm, comfortable and content. I like that we as a family can interact with anything that goes on, eg: Elvis visits or the singing duo. I am always made to feel very welcome, also listened to.
There are a lot of changes going on at the
moment due to home take over, I hope that more staff can be appointed and not have to have many agency staff as we all like continuity.
But I would 100% tell people this home is the very best.

I have been so impressed with the care and compassion shown towards my father during a very difficult time for our family. We found the experience of accessing appropriate nursing care for Dad emotionally stressful and the staff (management and care staff alike) were so helpful and supportive during
the whole process.
I strongly feel that the staff at Rectory House are doing the best for my father and putting him at the centre of decision-making, and that has helped him, my mum and the wider family.
Thank you to everyone there.

As a carer for my grandmother, I have/had high standards when it came to relocating her from her initial care home.
I am nothing but delighted that she came to Rectory. The staff are wonderful with her. Before, in her other care home, she was disengaged, lonely and left on her own most of the day.
At Rectory House, Grandma has always got staff popping in and out, they come in and talk to her, including her and making her feel like family. The food is good will a well-balanced nutritional diet.
The activities team are great at catering for those that want entertainment. I believe some improvement can be made to the activities offered, but they are on that already.
There have been a few issues that we have experienced since the move here in 2022, but the management are very keen to iron out any issues and come up with solutions to avoid these things happening again. It's not always about the problem, it's about how it's learnt from to avoid the same re-occurring. Thank you so much.

My wife and I are devoted friends to a lady, one of your residents. We visit her frequently from Southampton and are her Attorneys for her health and finance affairs. We have been very happy with the standard of care that she has received in the over six-year period that she has been at Rectory House.
However, we feel that just lately, the staff and assistant manager have excelled themselves in the quality and attention that she is receiving. They have made a decision to put her on a soft diet, as she is having difficulty swallowing, and recently got her GP involved in preparation for end-of-life care. The assistant manager has been particularly attentive and is keeping us informed as well as encouraging the duty nurse of the day to do likewise.
So my wife and I commend and nominate your assistant manager for promotion to the vacancy as Rectory House manager. We believe she has shown immense skill both medically and in her caring attitude towards residents and staff alike. We know that she is wrestling with the idea and hope that she will apply shortly. She has earnt it, and she deserves it. We wish her every success.

Mum is always treated with respect and dignity by the home and overall her care is good. I would like to be involved more in decisions about her care plan. I have said I wanted to have input but haven’t been contacted to do so. The outstanding maintenance issues remain and I’m a bit sad that I made
mum a lovely cheerful picture last year and it still hasn’t been put on her wall for her to enjoy. Staff communicate well with me about any health issues. I haven’t been able to visit due to Covid but when I do it is well managed. I appreciate being able to video call her every week and staff are great at facilitating this.

My parents did not want to go into a care home, however due to age and infirmity (my father is over 100, partially sighted and a little deaf) and my mother is not much younger, it was necessary as they could no longer manage in their own home. Staff were there to help them through this difficult transition
and my mother particularly appreciated visits from the dog.
While visiting has been difficult during Covid I felt confident that my parents were in a safe environment and being looked after by caring staff. When they first moved in, staff were there to help them use their mobile phone so we could stay in contact.
The nursing, management and reception staff have been excellent and have gone out of their way to provide my parents with the support and care they require and also to keep me informed on what was happening to them.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.543)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.543) out of 10 for Rectory House Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.543 for Rectory House Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (179 Excellents x 5) + (88 Goods x 4) + (22 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 289 Ratings = 4.543
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Rectory House Nursing Home is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
