The home provides a good level of care. It is secure and safe. The care workers understand the needs of the patients. This is a nursing home and so the patients have more extreme needs. These are recognised by the staff on an individual basis. The rooms are basic and it is the responsibility of the family to make them 'homely'.

My brother received the finest care anybody could receive. He was treated with dignity and humanity all the staff had a laugh and a joke with him. He always seemed content in his surroundings. We as a family cannot praise Acorn Hill so highly and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you all.

Thank you so much for your very positive feedback. I am so pleased that we were able to continue to care for your brother at the end of his life where he was with everyone who knew him well and in familiar surroundings. Your comments have been passed on to the team.

This nursing home appears to be well run and organised. Staff are very busy but also caring and helpful. The corridors and entrance could benefit from some decorating but the rooms are warm and well furnished and Mum's bed is comfortable.

Reply from Wendy Fall, Deputy Manager at Oakdale Care Ltd

Thank you for your positive feedback. As you know the ground floor corridor has just been re-painted and there are plans to obtain some new soft furnishings for the entrance area. Please do not hesitate to come and have a chat with me or Helen if we can help you in any way.

Overall Experience

I have been visiting the home for nearly 2 years. It has a nice comfortable feel about it and I am always made welcome by all of the staff. The care and cleanliness, from the laundry, cleaning, care staff and nurses are good. Meals are nutritious and a menu is available to choose from and they are always willing to prepare something different. I find a very caring environment and staff are hard working. I see paperwork and meals often stretch staff and perhaps that is where help is needed. This would free staff to interact more with the residents which they want to do. I have visited other homes and this is a good one and all the staff contribute to that. Management are visual and I find approachable and willing to listen.

When you enter into Acorn Hill Nursing Home, the appearance looks a bit tired, but when you have spent a little time visiting your loved ones the first impression is the compassion shown from the staff added with a little bit of humour included.
Since I have been visiting my brother I have seen a big improvement in him.
When my brother first went to stay at Acorn Hill Nursing Home, his attitude was a mixture of frustration/anger understandably!
This has since been managed/controlled and I feel he is presently a lot more relaxed in himself and especially acceptance relating to him living in this care home.

Overall I feel he is in the right place for him! I continue to more and more, after each visit, feel relaxed with the setup of the care home and the staff caring for my brother!

Mum spent the last 17 months of her life here. The staff are very professional and caring. Mum was always treated in a dignified manner and her needs were dealt with promptly. It felt like she was part of an extended family and she was called affectionately by the girls 'Nana'.

She was a big fan of the food and enjoyed a good selection of dishes.
