My mother was a respite resident for 5 weeks following a fall just before Christmas. From my first telephone conversation to the day she came home, I have found the care excellent at Blackwell. It would be unfair to single out any member of staff, as unfortunately I don't know the names of all the people
I have met. Everyone has been caring, patient and considerate. I came to see Mum on New Years Eve, but only stayed for 15 minutes as she was taking part in the activities and really enjoying it, which demonstrated to me the quality of this care home.
Whilst I was working, I had dealings with numerous care homes in both Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, Blackwell in my opinion is certainly 5 star.

The staff who work with my mum are great with her. They try their best to keep her calm even when she's being overbearing. Laura who does the entertainment and days out is amazing with all the residents. She really cares for them and tries to make them happy as she can xxxx

Staff have always shown kindness to my mum. When she has been upset, they have taken the time to identify trigger factors. They have also acted quickly, registering a deterioration in condition and referring to the appropriate service. She and I feel very safe under Hollybank's care.

Blackwell care home feels warm, positive, and full of life, as soon as you walk through the door.
The level of care provided brings real peace of mind. The care is exceptional, the food is lovely, the environment is clean and welcoming, and the whole place feels safe and homely. The activities and
entertainment are wonderful and bring genuine joy and meaning to the residents' days. The open-door approach is incredibly reassuring and makes you feel listened to and supported.
What stands out most is the staff. Every member of staff shows politeness, genuine kindness, compassion, and dedication, going above and beyond every day. The difference they make is immeasurable, and I honestly cannot praise or thank them enough.

Not had much experience of care homes, but it seems very clean & tidy and not smelling like some others I have visited. Staff seem caring & efficient, sometimes they seem to be busy to take my mam to the toilet straight away. Seem to have a lot of activities going on, involve the visitors as well. My
mam has vascular dementia quite badly, so unfortunately can't ask her for a opinion as most of the time she does not know where she is. But we know that she is safe and that piece of mind for us all.

Overall I have seen a good improvement in facilities and decor of the home over the last year or so. I am very happy with care my mum receives from the staff. Its a shame the chairs have been moved from the entrance area as my mum always sat there and saw everyone goby, which I felt gave her some interaction.
Apart from that Im very pleased with the home, I must add that it alway smells nice Im never noticed a bad smell when visiting.

Ashcroft Care Home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Dad died this week on 3rd January 2026, 6 days ago, he had suffered from dementia for many years and he finally became a resident at Ashcroft in February of 2025 after my mum realised that she could no longer manage everything at home, she was 89 years old at this point .It was so hard for mum to
let go of caring for dad but she soon gained confidence in the wonderful carers and she felt welcomed as one of the family herself.
Dad's last year was made so much better living at Ashcroft, he was cared for beautifully and always with kindness and love. The staff were respectful towards him, he was always up, dressed, cleanly shaven and spoken to with respect. The meals were tasty and adapted to his tastes. The atmosphere at Ashcroft always felt like his home. Everything was offered with kindness. In his last few weeks he received care that was of the highest standard and as a family we will be forever grateful. The support they gave to us won't ever be forgotten. Thankyou always xx
Reply from Jamie Garner, Marketing Manager at Ashcroft Care HomeThank you so much for taking the time to share such a heartfelt review. We are deeply sorry for your loss and send our sincerest condolences to you and your family.

It means a great deal to hear how supported both your dad and mum felt during their time with us at Ashcroft. We know how difficult the decision is to move a loved one into care, and we're so glad your mum felt welcomed, reassured and part of the Ashcroft family from the very beginning.

Your words about the kindness, respect and dignity shown to your dad, particularly in his final weeks, will mean so much to the whole team. Caring for residents and supporting their families through such an emotional time is something we hold very close to our hearts, and it's truly comforting to know that this came across.

Thank you again for trusting us with your dad's care. He will be remembered fondly by the team, and your kind words will stay with us always.

Mum gets upset when other residents invade her space but this has improved a bit since the layout was re-arranged recently, sometimes her laudry gets misslaid even though it has been labelled. Mum feels she has to get up and go to the toilet on her own, even though she needs help as she is unable to
wait too long due to continence reasons.
Generally good though, staff caring and respectful.
Mum remarked upon the food being good.
Reply from Natasha Hill, Registered Manager at Bramble Lodge Residential & Dementia Care HomeThank you for sharing this feedback with us. We are pleased to hear that the recent re-arrangement of the layout has helped reduce situations where other residents unintentionally invade your mum's personal space, and that she has been enjoying the food.
We are sorry to hear about the occasions when laundry has been misplaced despite being labelled. We will remind staff to take extra care to ensure personal items are returned promptly and correctly.
We also understand your concerns regarding your mum feeling the need to go to the toilet independently. Given her continence needs, we will reinforce with staff the importance of responding promptly and offering reassurance so she feels supported to wait safely for assistance.
Thank you for your kind comments about the staff being caring and respectful. We value your feedback and will continue to monitor these areas to ensure your mum's comfort, dignity, and safety.

My mum was discharged from hospital straight into Bramble Lodge in April. We all found this emotional journey quite tough at first. But now 6 months on Mum seems more settled. I find visits quite over-whelming at times, however since the dining rooms has been split over 2 levels every-where seems alot
calmer and happier. All staff are all helpful and have time with any concerns or just a general chat despite being busy. All the new areas are a great addition especially the new Beauty Room. My mum is a walker and luckily has lots of safe space to walk around. Thank you Team Bramble.
