We could not have asked for a better place for mum to be cared for in her final weeks.
All the staff carers, nurses, (and cleaners and maintenance) are a great team. They were friendly and helpful and got to know mum well to provide her with the care she needed in a gentle way with respect and dignity.
Caring
is a true vocation and Coundon Manor have employed people who are really dedicated to their profession.
They communicated well with me and always gave me time if I had any questions.
Great place.

Hemsworth Park Care Home

My mum lived at Hemsworth Park Care Home for just over a year, and sadly I had to remove her for her own safety. During her time there she suffered nearly 30 falls, most of which were unwitnessed. She was also repeatedly developing UTIs, which I strongly believe were caused by a lack of regular personal
care and bathing. When she had these infections, she often wasn't able to feed herself properly, yet many carers did not assist her with meals. As a result, she became severely underweight and malnourished. Since moving to a new care home, the difference has been incredible. Although it's still early days, she has already gained over half a stone, has not had a single fall, and has had no UTIs, simply because she is now receiving regular showers, proper supervision, and help with eating when needed. I do want to acknowledge that there are a few genuinely caring and dedicated staff members at Hemsworth Park, but unfortunately they are very much in the minority.

During our family recent stay at this nursing home, she received exemplary care that was consistently delivered with dignity and respect. From the outset, she was fully involved in decisions about her care, and her wishes and choices were always listened to and honoured.

This gave her reassurance

and helped her settle quickly into the home. All staff, including the kitchen team, went above and beyond to meet her to meet her dietary requirements, with meals prepared thoughtfully and with genuine consideration for her comfort and enjoyment.

The end-of-life care was exceptional. Staff ensured her comfort and dignity, allowing a peaceful passing, while showing our family great compassion, kindness, and respect throughout her final hours.

My sincere thanks to all staff for making my aunt's transition into care smooth and reassuring, and for ensuring her final months were lived with dignity, comfort, and peace.

Visited a resident today and my experience is always one of a caring friendly atmosphere. In the last year I have had cause to visit a few care homes in the local area but Silver Birches comes top of my list. I can affirm that some homes although having very 'posh' surroundings/furnishing do not meet
patients basic needs eg needing regular drinks etc and staff are hard to find. Not at Silver Birches - staff are visible and attentive
Keep up the good work and well done!

My father, who had Parkinson's and dementia, moved into Silver Birches after a hospital stay when it became clear he needed full-time support. Over the years he had stayed in other homes for respite care, but many seemed to miss the most important part: genuine care. At Silver Birches, care is at the
heart of everything. The staff are kind, attentive and friendly, and nothing is too much trouble.

The units are structured so residents see the same small group of staff and fellow residents, which is especially comforting for people with dementia. Unlike some homes, they did not unnecessarily restrict his movements. He could safely walk with his frame, join activities in the home, and was also taken to local community events.

He was always well looked after and able to live with as much freedom as possible. When his health declined, their end-of-life care was excellent, and the support they gave us as a family was first class. Dad passed away calm, cared for, respected and with dignity.

Reply from Katherine Henness, Manager at Silver BirchesThank you so very much for this wonderful review. I appreciate it so much. I am so blessed to manage such a wonderful care home and a wonderful group of staff and most importantly our wonderful residents who are central to our family. Please take care of yourselves. Kath

Coundon Manor care home provides excellent care for my Mum. Carers are kind, considerate and respectful to residents and relatives. Nurses are professional. The food is good and the entertainment ladies are enthusiastic and provide a variety of games and challenges for those that want to join in. Lots
of visits to the home are arranged (from Llamas to Elvis) and residents can go on trips out.
Facilities- A quiet room would be good

My husband has been a resident of Coundon Manor for the past 9 months and we have found them to be caring and helpful. Indeed some members of the care staff have been helpful when we have a new piece of equipment to learn how to use. We are also very impressed with the cleanliness that the rooms
etc are kept.
A great big plus is the entertainment. To see the residents faces light up when a singer comes or when they are taken to a coffee shop or dominoes are played etc is wonderful. There are members of staff who arrange these activities and they do a sterling job and in my opinion these ladies are dedicated to making the residents comfortable and happy.
A big hands up to the ladies in the offices who help when advice is needed.

Mum has been a resident for over 5 years. I cannot praise the staff and management enough for all the help and support they have given my mum and me. They go over and above. Mum is unable to see, so the daily things we all take for granted they help her do. Activity team involve her with whatever is
happening if she wants to join in, there is always someone checking on her to make she is comfortable or needs anything. I can now visit and come home feeling reassured that she is in the right place and with caring people. By the way mum asked to come here as she had received good reports from friends where she lived before coming here.

You can see the staff care and are working hard to accommodate the residents and visitors unfortunately particularly with all the changes but there just is not enough staff on each floor to deal with the residents as a whole and especially if there is an incident and all the buzzers are going
Reply from Katherine Henness, Registered Manager at Silver BirchesIt is wonderful to hear that staff care and do their best and I understand that it may seem that staffing numbers are low, particularly when the buzzers are going or there are incidents. Please be assured that our staffing numbers run in line with our residents needs. I use a tool where each individual residents needs are recorded and it formulates how many staff are required for each shift and we run in line with that. In addition, we have two senior staff on ever shift, the deputy manager, a business support manager and myself and we are all able to offer assistance and support to care staff as and when required and we do this. Thank you for your kind review.

Staff are poor, not interested in doing the job. Everything seems like a chore when asked to do something. Residents left in need. Extremely poor experience. We were only with them 4 days before my grandfather was rushed back to hospital with severe safeguarding issues raised regarding this home! Would
not recommend. Extremely poor experience throughout it all.

Can not fault this care home.
The staff go above and beyond for not only the residents but their families.
The care home itself is welcoming, spotlessly clean and bright. There is always a happy friendly atmosphere. The care given to my mother, who was in short respite care whilst my dad was in
hospital, was wonderful. We watched her blossom with all the attention she was receiving (mum has mild dementia). She was treated like a princess throughout her stay by all of the staff. My father then was lucky enough to return from hospital to convalesce along side my mum. The staff did their very best to ensure they were together in the home.
Mum and Dad are now, after a very roller coaster of 7 weeks, returning to their own home.
We can honestly say this is bitter sweet as we feel lucky to have them back home but as a daughter felt relief to know they were being so amazingly looked after whilst they were in Coundon Manor. I would totally highly recommend Coundon Manor Care Home.

Coundon Manor is clean and welcoming. My Mother can be quite demanding, and the staff show patience and understanding. Sometimes time between changes needs a look at as if just changed, and they soiled it can take quite a while and a few visits of staff before it gets checked as often the answer is
you are not due a change yet.

My mum came into this home in September 2023. At first, she was unsettled and doing some very strange things, so she was moved nearer to the office where she could be watched, she has now settled down and seems to be very happy. She talks to everyone. A lot of the staff are lovely caring people and
they work hard. The only thing according to Mum is there doesn't seem to be much going on i.e. entertainment or social get-together. I think because mum doesn't hear very well or see very well she doesn't join in if there is anything going on. The only thing that is negative to me is there needs to be some sort of intercom system or visitors should be able to get a code to get in and out. It shouldn't be up to all the staff to drop what they are doing (taking care of residents) to keep coming and opening the main doors every time someone comes. However, my overall review is I'm grateful to each and every one of you in the care home for looking after and caring for my mum.

Upon visiting the home I was overwhelmed with the standard of care delivered. I had a discussion with the general manager and was very touched by how caring and passionate she came across.
Nothing was too much trouble and it is evident with the team she leads. thank you.
The home was presented well
with no odour and inviting, the residents were engaged as well as looked cared for.
