Rosewood House

from B W (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 April 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My 93yr old father lives with me and when in the past I brought up the topic of respite he would immediately go into panic mode, that was until he went to Rosewood House, now whenever I mention respite the first thing he says is " Only if I can go back to Rosewood" . I would never try to get him into
another home now, I would rather change my dates than send him elsewhere. The following are dad's words about his recent stay.
I have been in other care homes in Gateshead but Rosewood is by far the best. The food is excellent, always a choice at each meal and a good variety throughout the week. The carers are very helpful and friendly as are the management. Even though I prefer to stay in my own room, only mixing at meal times, I appreciate the help I get and the fact that carers come along for a chat when they aren't
too busy. The rooms are lovely, comfortable and clean, a cleaner coming in every day and having my own bathroom is great. Thank you for another happy stay.

I first became acquainted with Aspen Court on16th of February this year when my 97year old mother- in- law was transferred there after a two day stay in hospital. She was well enough to leave hospital but unfortunately not well enough to return home.
Shortly after 6.30pm I received a phone call from
a senior member of staff at Aspen Court reassuring me that my relative had just arrived safely and was in good spirits settling into her room. Staff were organising some hot food and drink for her as she's had a long wait at the hospital for transport.
This simple little phone call meant the world to me as it emphasised she was in loving, caring hands immediately. The care and attention she receives from all staff that I have witnessed on my visits is heart warming and genuine. She has been in Aspen Court now for just over 6 weeks and is always perky and full of stories between her and her carers. Aspen Court has brought the spark back to her eyes and she is enjoying her new home.

I would like to share some feedback about my mum's home and the exceptional standard of care she receives.
As an only child living nine hours' drive away from mums home it is incredibly hard for me to leave my mum each time I visit as I am sure you can imagine and it's even harder knowing that because
of her dementia, as she no longer recognises me however close we are, however, I take enormous comfort in knowing that mum is surrounded by such compassionate, dedicated and genuinely caring staff.
Every single member of the team treats my mum with kindness, dignity, and respect, It truly feels as though they all love her, and in her own way, I know she feels safe, happy and cared for, that reassurance means more to me than I can ever put into words.
The staff go above and beyond in every way, they keep me constantly updated with regular phone calls and communication regardless of how busy they are and whatever situations they are having to deal with, which makes such a difference w

My brother spent over two years here with advanced Parkinson's Disease, and he was always treated with kindness and dignity. The staff were patient, compassionate and attentive to his comfort throughout.
We felt supported as a family, and the gentle care he received in his final weeks meant a great
deal.
We are sincerely grateful and would confidently recommend this home to others.

My brother has been in the home for several years and despite another new manager in the last year or so, things haven't improved in my opinion. Today as an example, I've called the home at 2pm to ask for someone to get him up as he is hoisted and has been left in bed until now despite having a care
plan that stipulates the time things should happen as things weren't happening as they should. It improved for a while but has since gone back to how it was. We have raised concerns with management about the home smelling of weed but was told it's the residents home and their rights to do as they wish but they asked them to smoke outside of the premises. This means as you enter the car park there are small gatherings of residents and the smell of weed is strong both outside and inside the home. The home offers drug and alcohol rehabilitation but it doesn't feel right to have a care home with vulnerable adults mixing with those smoking weed. Call bells are ignored, wouldn't recommend home.

My mother had an 18 day/night stay in Rosewood for Respite, she was very anxious about going in but she settled within a couple of hours. All of the staff were very welcoming, attentive and treat her, myself and her visitors with the utmost respect, she had no complaints and gave them all 10/10 (her
words). All of the staff are very approachable and nothing is a bother to them, they go above and beyond to help with any concerns you may have. I would definitely recommend Rosewood House and wouldn't hesitate in using them again. Thank you all once again for looking after her it was very much appreciated. I haven't marked the activities as my mam was bedbound and didn't take part, but from what I did see the Residents all enjoyed themselves.

The care my gran is given is excellent from carers to management. Everyone is extremely friendly and caring. If there are any issues these are dealt with swiftly. It was very difficult for us as a family to place Gran in a care home as we could no longer care for her ourselves, but choosing Brownlee
was definately the best decision. She's safe/cared for extremely well and happy. She especially enjoys the fitness classes.

My Aunt was at Aspen Court from October 2022 until this August when she passed away after a short illness.
She enjoyed her time at the Carehome were she has been looked after by all carers and at the end by the medical staff. There care and attention to all her needs have been exceptional. Whenever
we visit it always feels more like a home environment were it is such a nice place to be. We cannot praise them all enough. They have kept in touch with me sometimes daily to keep me updated on her health and wellbeing, when she took poorly as unfortunately we live in Norfolk over 4 1/2 hours away. The Manager has helped my aunt and myself whenever it was required. Thank you all.

Very happy for my wife to be at this home. The staff are very good and helpful. I only wish she had a nicer room. The medical care she gets is very good. I know she can be hard to live with, but the home seems to look after her well. What more can I say but thank you.
