Dementia Care TypesMild Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "mild dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Memory problems such as misplacing items and not be able to recall recent events (however, in some forms of dementia a person's memory may be unchanged)
- Difficulties thinking through problems and planning, making decisions
- Language and communication issues such as finding it difficult to recall the appropriate word in a conversation or following a conversation
- Poor orientation, getting lost in areas previously familiar to them
- Difficulty judging distances (more falls than usual)
- Changes in their normal mood including anxiety and depression
- In certain types of dementia, personality and behaviour changes may be present alongside or instead of issues with memory or concentration.
Moderate Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "moderate dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Worsened memory problems. Not always recognising own family members and friends. Repeating the same questions over and over again
- Worsened language and communication issues, forgetting what they are saying mid-sentence. Not being able to understand what someone else is saying
- More frequent confusion, e.g. about the time of day or where they are, including their own home
- Apathy, depression and anxiety
- Believing things that aren't true (paranoia)
- Frequent hallucinations
- Lack of emotional control, quick to anger, fearfulness, sadness
- Loss of inhibition
- Difficulties sleeping or waking during the night and behaving as though it is daytime - loss of circadian rhythm.
Advanced Dementia
Someone living with our definition of "severe dementia" might experience some or all of the following:
- Severe memory problems. Not recognising family members and friends. Not being able to recall their own name
- Severe language and communication issues, not being able to understand what someone else is saying
- Severe confusion, e.g. about the time of day or where they are, including their own home
- Apathy, depression and anxiety
- Believing things that aren't true (paranoia)
- Frequent hallucinations
- Lack of emotional control, quick to anger, fearfulness, sadness
- Loss of inhibition
- Difficulties sleeping or waking during the night and behaving as though it is daytime - loss of circadian rhythm.
Verbally or physically aggressive behaviour
If your loved one displays this type of behaviour you may need a care home that has specially trained staff. Verbal/physical aggression is often defined:
- Consistent shouting and screaming
- Verbal abuse
- Physical abuse

This is a very nice home and I like that my nan has always been treated with love , respect and kindness which I appreciate is not always easy. The staff are lovely and show great care, they are approachable and whenever I visit there is always a lively and happy atmosphere and you can tell that the staff like being there.

Overall Experience
My granny came in here for temporary care. There was a warm welcome on arrival which was appreciated as she was really worried. All the staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. When it comes to the time when she needs permanent care I will choose here as they really do try hard to make everyone happy.

My sister and myself were very happy with our mother's care. Staff are very approachable, so we can always discuss anything. The home offers a good variety of spaces to enjoy. The food is varied, interesting and generally of good quality and she enjoys the daily activities.

Overall Experience
This home was absolutely delightful . The staff were very kind and helpful to Mum which was such a relief as I was very hesitant to put her in a home. I really liked the fact that there was always so much happening in the home and that it was just on the main road so very easy to get to by bus. I know Mum enjoyed getting her hair done in the salon and also taking part in all the fun activities that they were doing. Keep up the good work.

Thank you to the wonderful team and managers at Rugby Care Centre, for looking after my sister who was on the moving of the bed/rehabilitation scheme. I have not seen her looking so good after staying with your home for such a short period. She was given a nice clean room, she enjoyed her food, and was looking a lot healthier than I have seen in a long time. She enjoyed spending time recovering rather than alone at home or in the hospital.

Overall Experience
Both mum and dad have lived in Rugby Care Centre and both have been treated with the utmost care and kindness. Mum sadly passed away and dad has been cared for 2 years now. Nothing has been too much trouble for all the staff. I know that when I leave after visiting, he is in such capable and loving hands. My sister and I have nothing but praise for all at Rugby Care Centre. Thank you.

This home is exceptional. They treat their residents with kindness and dignity and with so much love and care.
I really feel guilty having had to place my mother in a home but the fact that I have picked this one has made me realise that this is the right place and I made the right decision. I always have direct access to the management team of the home who are always responsive to all my needs.

I am really happy with the way my grandmother has been treated at this home. I know she was only there for a short time but everyone seemed to make so much effort with her to ensure she was feeling integrated into the home.
I think it's just such a lovely thing this home is doing. I especially liked the cinema room and the activities/sensory room in the home that my nan seemed to really like. I also really liked the fact that she was able to buy some nice toiletries in the 'shop' that they have in the home.

I had the pleasure of visiting my friend in this home last month and I was really happy with the way they took care of her. My friend has not been able to take care of herself, but here, she looks very well taken care of. She looks well dressed, smart and well-fed. She had activities to keep her busy and the staff had a lot of time for all of us. She is usually fussy with food but they seemed to have cracked it so she actually eats lots of food. The home is well located on the high street too, so it was very convenient to get to by bus.

Wow-what a fabulous service this home provides. I have to say I have visited a number of homes in the past but none as lovely as this. You can really tell how much the staff and management team care about everyone. The place looks and smells lovely and it was very obvious that everyone was enjoying the food and activities on offer. I really recommend this home to anyone who needs to move into a care home.

My mother has recently relocated here. From the 1st moment, both the family and mum were made to feel welcome and relaxed.

I have to say that we have visited many care homes in the past to visit a variety of friends and relatives but I am so happy that I stayed in this care home. The staff are so friendly and so warm and welcoming every time - no matter what day or time my family arrive they are really accommodating. The regular activities keep me active and involved and the food smells and tastes so delicious! A lovely place, clean and tidy and some very friendly residents. Thank you for taking such good care of me when I could not take as good care of myself. I will be sure to return if I need to stay again.

My wife has vascular dementia. I found I could not look after her properly. We were told about Rugby Care Centre by carers who visited us. At first, I was worried about what the home might be like but after we visited and met the manager and carers, I was very happy to move my wife into her new home. The only words I can say about my wife's new home - "just wonderful".
