We cannot thank Seymour Court Nursing Home enough for the exceptional care given to our father. He first came for respite in 2023 and became a permanent resident from January 2025 until he passed away in January 2026. Dad loved the activities, friendly faces and superb food, and we were always warmly
welcomed. Staff treated him with patience, humour and dignity, supporting his independence and adapting as Parkinson's and Lewy Body dementia progressed. The nurses kept us informed and reassured throughout. Every member of the team ensured Dad was always clean, comfortable and well cared for. We are especially grateful to Scarlett, Amy, Cherry, Cheryl, Pasand, Jean, Brenda, Kath, Mariah and Jessie on nights. Seymour Court gave our father comfort, dignity and genuine kindness, for which we will always be thankful.

My father in law was a resident until his untimely passing. He was treated with the utmost care and respect but more importantly as a family member at Seymour Court.
The care in which he received was always exemplary.
At the time of his passing we as a family spent more time with him often staying
with him overnight and again we were treated like one of the Seymour Court families.
For Ayesh and I our time spent with the residence during the family evenings with food and cheer will always remain fondly in our memories and will treasure.
Marie Claire always made us feel incredibly welcome despite being on her own journey.
The nursing team always kept us up to date through every step in David's journey and no matter how busy they may have been we always felt listened to and that we were given their time.
The HCAs are very much the solid foundation of a well functioning team.
All in all we could not have asked for anything more from Seymour court during David's 18 month stay.

I could not fault the care and kindness shown by all staff, not only for my sister, but to myself and brother when visiting. Friendly, but not intrusive. Nothing was too much trouble in all aspects of the sad situation that we found our family in. Thank you to each and everyone at Seymour Court.

Seymour Court is absolutely fantastic. The staff and carers are amazing, very caring, friendly and can't do enough for the residents. It's spotlessly clean everywhere, and the meals they do there for the residents are beautiful and cooked fresh on the premises. I would recommend this home, it's top
class, I would give five stars.

My father was placed in a ground floor room so he could be monitored frequently and medication could be administered when required. The staff were professional and dedicated and provided the care and wellbeing of my father throughout his short stay. A big thank you to all staff who were friendly and
a constant source of comfort.

From the first day my father went into Seymour Court he's had such an amazing care and attention. He settled in well. He enjoyed the food from the manager/nurses and carers, kitchen staff, domestic staff all work very hard and they are a good team. My father passed away in May 2025 he was given dignity,
loving care not just to my dad but to us as a family we could stay with with which was comforting for us all. The only thing id like to mention is I think the clothes should be ironed once washed I didn't like seeing my dad in creased clothes. I had to take his clothes home.

My Mum was taken from hospital to Seymour Court for palliative care.
I cannot praise the entire team at the nursing home, she was treated with such dignity and compassion from all the team as we as a family were, nothing was too much trouble.
The nursing team were amazing as the care team and also
the food was lovely and everyone so warm and friendly. Well done Seymour Court.

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
Most staff were kind and caring, never enough, difficult to find, particularly mealtimes and weekends. The cover fell off the radiator twice, the window was difficult to close and taps dripped continually, often overflowing. Previous occupant's clothes were left in the wardrobe for 4 weeks until I removed
them. My husband was often found in dirty, wet clothes having spilt food and drink, he couldn't pick them up, and often missed snacks. Often wearing someone else's baggy t-shirts even though I had provided an adequate supply of new shirts, more than once I shaved him because he looked so dishevelled. He was often not adequately hydrated and had numerous catheter problems and urine infections, which often went unnoticed by staff and were not dealt with in a timely manner. The lack of compassion following his death added to our pain, we left his room and had to wait in a corridor, by the usual consistently buzzing call bells, while staff prepared his body, we were told we could re-enter and saw no staff after that, just another job done! No sympathy was expressed or even a goodbye. Limited information on how to obtain the Death Certificate.
I realise a negative comment will not be printed, but question the validity of only printing 'excellent ones, some dating from 2018. Reviews posted regarding Seymour Court bear little resemblance to my experience, or those of other visitors, of over 3½ months, I visited my husband every day. Taking everything into consideration, and reading the daily diary that I had kept, together with visitors' comments, I feel that overall, my husband's care was often not good. Sadly, unlike some comments left, I often didn't feel confident when leaving my husband and at times left the Home very upset. When visiting my husband in the Funeral Home, although heartbreaking, it was such a relief to see him looking like his old self, so clean, tidy and well cared for, for the first time in 3 months.
Reply from Marie Claire Foale, Manager at Seymour CourtIt is naturally very disappointing to read reviews such as the above and feel saddened that this was your experience. Whilst recollections may vary, I believe that our staff genuinely tried their best to meet your expectations. Under our duty of candour and for purposes of transparency, we would wish that all reviews, good or bad, should be published by an independent verifier such as the ones which are submitted via this platform. Your concerns at the time were taken very seriously and the management would like to apologise for the way that you feel.

After visiting a very good friend, surveying myself for future reference as I'm now 80 years of age and living alone, looking to the future as I would be more than happy to be a resident. I've had a lovely conversation with a young man who I gather was going an "inspection" at the time, everything was
great - faultless. It was a pleasure to visit your building.

During the last few months of my aunt's life, she stayed at this care home and received exceptional care. The staff from nurses to care, catering, cleaning and management were extremely warm, attentive and professional. My aunt spoke to me about the great care, assistance and dignity she was afforded.
When I first flew from abroad to be with her at the end, I was shown every kindness. Senior management went above and beyond finding me a space to complete some unavoidable work which allowed me to stay close to my aunt until the very end. Every member of the team treated her and me with absolute respect and warmth. I highly recommend this care home without reservation, it restored my faith in the quality of care homes.

When my aunt first arrived in the care home she was very distraught and did not want to go on living. There were various problems along the way but as time went on, both the manager and staff dealt with them in a kind and professional manner. They did all they could to make her stay as comfortable as
possible and were always ready to give comfort, support and advice to her family. After every visit, it was hard to leave my aunt but we always felt she was in safe hands.

This is without a doubt the best care home that I have ever visited. All the staff were warm, welcoming and highly efficient from the manager to all the ancillary staff. Patients were treated with such kindness and empathy and made to feel valued as individuals. One of the most striking features of
the care home is that it is a home for the residents and their families. It may sound mundane but the lack of institutional smell was unique.

Seymour Court has gone above and beyond to support Dad during his battle with Parkinson's disease. The staff are hard-working, diligent and above all caring. Their sensitivity to Dad and the wider family has been outstanding and I would recommend the service to anyone with a loved one who needs the
very best care and support. My heartfelt thanks to all the staff for making a difficult time easier to bear.

My husband has been a resident at Seymour Court for 5 months. The kindness and professionalism of all the staff is superb. The training of all staff members is evident from the clinical lead downwards and is their willingness to help individual residents, no matter how challenging. The support given
to families is second to none and is to be applauded.

My mum was transferred to Seymour Court from Derriford Hospital because they have an excellent reputation in caring for residents in respect of end-of-life care. We were not disappointed - Mum's health has deteriorated over the months but at every stage of her care the staff at Seymour Court have been
wonderful. I was most impressed that regardless of the time of day I visited, I was always made welcome and mum was always clean, washed and wearing freshly laundered clothes. Her personal care has been amazing. The medical care provided was also excellent particularly as Mum's deteriorating health issues were a little complex but the overall focus on comfort and well-being was always uppermost in all of the nursing care. I would like to take this opportunity to mention the carer who prepared mum for transfer to the funeral home. Her absolute dedication and empathy as she bathed Mum for the last time and dressed her for the journey was exceptional. Thank you all.

My mum was diagnosed as end of life with only days left due to cancer, but a critical care nurse suggested taking her to Seymour Court. We had no idea about this nursing home but it turned out to be a wonderful place that gave my mum five more weeks of life, and my family five more weeks with our beloved
wife/mum/sister. I spent a lot of time there with her and the manager, carers and nurses were amazing - caring, patient, positive and friendly, and treated my mum with dignity, kindness and respect. The nurses explained things to us so we were not in the dark, even when it was not good news. The carers were so good to my mum and I thank them very much for this. Sadly my mum passed away a week ago. Two carers kindly offered to dress her afterwards and they put a rose in her hand, just a lovely thing to do. The manager talked us through the process to come, so helpful and needed. A thanks too on how well they looked after my elderly grieving dad during his daily visits to his wife.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.698)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.698) out of 10 for Seymour Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.698 for Seymour Court is calculated as follows: ( (200 Excellents x 5) + (52 Goods x 4) + (11 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 265 Ratings = 4.698
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Seymour Court is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
