Mum and dad came into Ladysmith from hospital together neither walking, Ladysmith embraced them and us as a family. They got mum walking and encouraged her independence while she could, they fought for her when GP's and nurses did not meet their needs. Mum has many ongoing health issues and dad dementia
of the worst kind. Without Ladysmith I would have broken long ago. The passing of both my parents sad but made easier because of their care angels there, they are remarkable.

Both of our parents were residents in Ladysmith Care Home and we could not have asked for better Care for them in the last year of their lives. The Staff are exemplary, no matter how tired and under pressure they are, it is their residents who come first and they treat them with such love, patience
and compassion it is as if the residents are their own family members. As a family we were constantly in, visiting, and we were always welcomed and made to feel part of the caring community there. The Staff looked after us just as they looked after Dad & Mum. They worked with us to ensure that Mum & Dad's needs were met, going above and beyond including taking Dad to Mum's room so that they could spend quality time together in the last weeks of Dad's life. And in the last weeks of Mum's life they were so patient and compassionate with her that it made the inevitable so much easier for us to cope with. We have experienced other Care Homes and none come close to Ladysmith.

Reply from Carol Woodliffe, Home Manager at Ladysmith Care Home

Thank you for your kind words, we always aim to provide the best care possible, so receiving your amazing review means such a lot. It was a pleasure looking after both of your parents :) :)

Mum moved into this very special home almost 2 months ago. I cannot praise the staff enough.
From communicating with myself ( I live overseas), in the lead up to the move and to the day of moving and now onwards. I have felt so supported by everyone. Each time I visited, the staff would acknowledge
me and tell me who they were. This was so important, as with all Health Professionals the uniforms are all different in each establishment so I felt this was a lovely touch. This also reassured me that if I was being treated with respect and kindness, that my Mum would be too which she certainly is
The manager is very supportive and arranged a feedback meeting for myself prior to my departure home
Mum is settling well now and loves the many activities available to her. They are geared towards her capabilities
Thank you to everyone for making this transition as easy as it could have been and for caring for Mum with empathy, respect, dignity and kindness. I will always be grateful.

We couldn't be happier with the care mum gets. All the staff are so kind and caring and genuinely want to learn more about her to further enhance her care. They are equally attentive to you too if you need to ask anything or just simply want a cup of tea. The Manager was our first point of contact and
was always available to talk to and respond to any questions too. Everyone makes you feel at home and it truly does feel like a home from home.

The thing that stands out most about Drovers Call is just how caring and friendly the staff are. When another care home said they couldn't cater for mum in law's complex needs we worried that we might not be able to find anywhere suitable locally, but she has been welcomed at Drovers from the start.
So much so that when my mum also needed a care home we had no hesitation in choosing Drovers Call.

Reply from Sheila Mitchell, Home Manager at Drovers Call

Thank you for these wonderful comments. We too believe that the staff are friendly, caring and they make Drovers Call the home that it is! We can't praise them enough. Thank you for choosing Drovers Call.

Sometimes her clothes aren't clean and she has plenty to change into and sometimes she wears someone else's clothes. The lady who does the activities is good and gets everyone involved and when we have been there some of the carers are on their phone and not looking after them.

My husband has been at Drovers Call for 2 years now. He has shown great improvement in that time and seems happy to be there. On my visits I find staff at all levels treat him with kindness, sensitivity and with dignity. I greatly admire the way they handle his day to day care with humour and compassion
on both good and bad days. I always feel welcome on my visits. Whenever I have any question or am anxious about any aspect of his care, staff on duty will try to answer them or find a person who can. A big thank you Drovers Call.

My uncle sadly spent only a short time in Abbey Court, however, during that time the care he received was consistently of a high standard. Members of staff were compassionate, responsive to care needs, observant of and proactive regarding changes in my uncle's demeanour, including medication to ease
his pain. He was kept clean, tidy and well shaven and his dignity was maintained. A special thanks to a staff nurse for her care of my uncle and our family.

My father became a resident of Cherry Holt Care Home in March 2023. Our first impression was of a clean, well decorated and homely environment where clients were treated with empathy, compassion and dignity. The staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. I felt that nothing was too much trouble
for either my father or myself. The care team include myself in all decision making regarding my father's ongoing care and treatment. During a period of unsettled behaviour, the staff remained resilient and continued to support my father in the same way they had previously. I cannot commend the Cherry Holt enough for their care of my father. The food is of high quality, he is always clean and well presented and there a number daily activities he can participate in involving other residents. My father is happy and settled at Cherry Holt and I have peace of mind that whilst I am at work, he is being safely managed by people who are a credit to their profession.

My father has been in Ladysmith Care for 3 years until passing away in September 2024. During this period myself and family have said many times how glad we were that we had chosen Ladysmith Care for our lovely dad. The love, care and attention to his needs were amazing. Dad loved the staff and they
cared deeply for him. As a family visiting a few times a week, we too became part of the care home and thought the world of all the staff and management.

The standard and quality of care at this home is exceptional. All the staff are caring and thoughtful. They have vastly improved both the mental and physical condition of my mother, who is now able to do so much more than I ever expected. In many ways she has been returned to us. She is never going
to 'get better', but she is so much improved. I am always made to feel welcome and there is always someone available if I need to discuss any aspects of her current or future care. There are a wide range of activities to stimulate residents and staff are very receptive to new ideas or suggestions. In warmer weather the garden is invaluable and this is appreciated by residents and family alike. I cannot give enough praise.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review. Your mum is thriving and has certainly turned a corner since admission. We as a team are so thrilled, and even more so that you continue to be happy with not just with the care that is provided to your mum, but with activities and the general approach you receive from the staff within the home. This feedback is vital and helps motivate the team to continue doing what they do to a high standard.

We can't thank the Ladysmith Family enough, everyone from the catering team, cleaning team, laundry ladies, carers and management helped to make my father's stay with them a positive experience. We had visited many homes before choosing Ladysmith but the minute one of the staff opened the door to us
we knew that was Dad's new home! The whole team sent out so much love and care they treated Dad as a member of their family. They often had to give us a hug too! They have a wealth of experience and knowledge in caring for the elderly which often comes with challenges. We often watched the staff discreetly caring for the residents and the care and love that they gave them brought a tear to our eyes! They don't just care for the residents they care for the whole family from the hugs, cups of tea and keeping us fed when we need it!

I have great respect for the staff and the care they give... some are better than others.
The issues I have are
1) Items of clothing go missing even though they have the room number on. Items that obviously require ironing are not ironed and I take my mother-in-law's laundry home to iron! White items
very often come back tinged with other colours so obviously whites are not washed separately. 4 hand-knitted cardigans have been totally destroyed due to not being washed with care.
2) I have been asking since 2020 for her room to be decorated and refurbished... it was and still is a very shabby room.

Reply from Mandy Leadbetter, Home Manager at Abbey Court Care and Nursing Home

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I will pass your kind words to the staff. I too have utmost respect for them and the care they provide is invaluable to us and to the residents. I have raised your concerns regarding ironing with the housekeeping team to ensure this is addressed. We have also begun the process of updating the bedroom and this is underway as we speak, we look forward to hearing your feedback on the refurbishment once complete.
