My mum came to Drovers call from another care home who were unable to manage her complex needs and behaviours. The nurses here work closely with relatives to reassure and are very open to keeping us informed around any changes in her care needs. The staff have spent time with mum getting to know her and are always caring of her and us when we visit. It's always clean in her room and across the home. It's nice to feel you can get to know the staff who are regulars and tend to stay there which to me is a good sign. I would recommend Drovers Call to anyone looking for care for their loved one. Thankyou to you all

My mum has been a resident in Branthwaite care home for around 4 years now and I have been extremely pleased with the care she receives. I am especially happy with the amount and quality of activities that she is involved with. I live a considerable distance from the home but whenever I visit, mum always looks well and seems happy.

I have recently started using the app that the staff use to take photos of mum when she is involved in activities. A great way for me and her grandchildren to see what she has been doing.

Really happy with the care Dad has received so far at Drovers Call! It's been a bumby ride but the team at Drovers have made the journey as smooth as possibly! He now seems settled and happy which is such a relief! Thank you to all the team for your support and continued dedication to the care of my dad and other residents

Reply from Elijah Gumise, Acting Home Manager at Drovers Call

We know moving into care can be a difficult and emotional journey for both residents and their families, so it means a lot to hear that your dad is now feeling settled and happy at Drovers Call.

Review of Drovers Call from Jane A (Daughter of Resident) published on 22 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My Mum's dementia had accelerated to a point where she needed the nursing element in addition to her regular care. It proved challenging to find a home which could cater to her needs without impacting other service users as her behaviours could at times be difficult. She moved to Drovers Call at Gainsborough literally just before Xmas. She quickly settled. Their care plan is centred around meeting her needs whilst managing her behaviours. I am kept fully informed of any incidents, which seem to be fairly infrequent thanks to the fabulous team surrounding her. I pop in at various times and have always been impressed by the number of staff and how fabulous they are with the residents. Mum is always neat, tidy and clean and invariably wearing a matching outfit. Something which was important to her before dementia ravaged her cognitive awareness. I truly value that the staff pay attention to that kind of detail. I could not be more satisfied with the home.

To all the staff at Ladysmith Care Home, I want to give massive thank you for treating my mother like a queen, she goes in respite throughout the year, whilst family go away. As a family, we are able to relax enjoy our holidays knowing she is getting care and attention you can possibly have. Once again, a huge thank you for everything.

When mum arrived 3 years ago, we soon saw our mum as we knew her back. The fun, loving, mischevious woman she was came back out. She would join in all days out and activities and help with other residents.

Mum had so much love for the home and the staff. Ladysmith became my mums home and the staff are family.

Lack of communication about partner. For example if they have a fall and are injured the family should be notified, particularly if hospital treatment has been involved. Heavy handed restraint of residents has been witnessed. Activities programme is very varied and imaginative.

Mum and dad came into Ladysmith from hospital together neither walking, Ladysmith embraced them and us as a family. They got mum walking and encouraged her independence while she could, they fought for her when GP's and nurses did not meet their needs. Mum has many ongoing health issues and dad dementia of the worst kind. Without Ladysmith I would have broken long ago. The passing of both my parents sad but made easier because of their care angels there, they are remarkable.

Overall Experience

Both of our parents were residents in Ladysmith Care Home and we could not have asked for better Care for them in the last year of their lives. The Staff are exemplary, no matter how tired and under pressure they are, it is their residents who come first and they treat them with such love, patience and compassion it is as if the residents are their own family members. As a family we were constantly in, visiting, and we were always welcomed and made to feel part of the caring community there. The Staff looked after us just as they looked after Dad & Mum. They worked with us to ensure that Mum & Dad's needs were met, going above and beyond including taking Dad to Mum's room so that they could spend quality time together in the last weeks of Dad's life. And in the last weeks of Mum's life they were so patient and compassionate with her that it made the inevitable so much easier for us to cope with. We have experienced other Care Homes and none come close to Ladysmith.

Reply from Carol Woodliffe, Home Manager at Ladysmith Care Home

Mum moved into this very special home almost 2 months ago. I cannot praise the staff enough.
From communicating with myself ( I live overseas), in the lead up to the move and to the day of moving and now onwards. I have felt so supported by everyone. Each time I visited, the staff would acknowledge me and tell me who they were. This was so important, as with all Health Professionals the uniforms are all different in each establishment so I felt this was a lovely touch. This also reassured me that if I was being treated with respect and kindness, that my Mum would be too which she certainly is
The manager is very supportive and arranged a feedback meeting for myself prior to my departure home
Mum is settling well now and loves the many activities available to her. They are geared towards her capabilities

Thank you to everyone for making this transition as easy as it could have been and for caring for Mum with empathy, respect, dignity and kindness. I will always be grateful.

We couldn't be happier with the care mum gets. All the staff are so kind and caring and genuinely want to learn more about her to further enhance her care. They are equally attentive to you too if you need to ask anything or just simply want a cup of tea. The Manager was our first point of contact and was always available to talk to and respond to any questions too. Everyone makes you feel at home and it truly does feel like a home from home.

Review of Drovers Call from Paul W (Son of Resident) published on 30 January 2025 Submitted via Website

The thing that stands out most about Drovers Call is just how caring and friendly the staff are. When another care home said they couldn't cater for mum in law's complex needs we worried that we might not be able to find anywhere suitable locally, but she has been welcomed at Drovers from the start. So much so that when my mum also needed a care home we had no hesitation in choosing Drovers Call.

Reply from Sheila Mitchell, Home Manager at Drovers Call

Sometimes her clothes aren't clean and she has plenty to change into and sometimes she wears someone else's clothes. The lady who does the activities is good and gets everyone involved and when we have been there some of the carers are on their phone and not looking after them.
