We have been incredibly pleased with the care and support my sister receives at John Masefield House in Abingdon.
From the moment she arrived, all of the staff have been so kind, caring and welcoming. It is clear that they genuinely care about the residents and take the time to understand their individual needs. My sister is very well looked after, and it gives our family great peace of mind knowing that she is in such good hands.
The staff are always friendly and approachable, and nothing ever seems too much trouble. They make a real effort to ensure my sister is comfortable, happy and well cared for, while also making sure all of her needs are met.
From the moment she arrived, all of the staff have been so kind, caring and welcoming. It is clear that they genuinely care about the residents and take the time to understand their individual needs. My sister is very well looked after, and it gives our family great peace of mind knowing that she is in such good hands.
The staff are always friendly and approachable, and nothing ever seems too much trouble. They make a real effort to ensure my sister is comfortable, happy and well cared for, while also making sure all of her needs are met.
We are extremely grateful to everyone at John Masefield House for the care, patience and compassion they show my sister. I would have no hesitation in recommending the home to other families looking for a caring and supportive environment for their loved one.

Our son has been resident for four months. He has been warmly welcomed and made to feel this is his home and the other residents his new friends. The management have been really supportive, flexible and engage us as partners in a team that is collectively seeking the best quality of life for our son. Ideas and suggestions are welcome from us and there is an appetite to learn from us as the management and carers all consider we know our son best of all. The carers are kind, considerate and professional in their duties and make a genuine effort to provide services that support our son. The nursing staff take full responsibility for all medical issues, supported by a visit from a GP each Monday, and administer all the medications to professional standards. The activity centre provides variety and plenty of options and is well managed. The home is located in beautiful grounds which affords the opportunity of external activities or sitting outside plus walks down to the River Thame.

My son moved into John Masefield in September 24. He settled in quickly and remains happy there now. Staff were very quick to learn my sons needs/likes/dislikes.
He has a lovely light airy room with a river view. Food is lovely and always available to visitors too! They make a great cake!!! All...
My son moved into John Masefield in September 24. He settled in quickly and remains happy there now. Staff were very quick to learn my sons needs/likes/dislikes.
He has a lovely light airy room with a river view. Food is lovely and always available to visitors too! They make a great cake!!! All staff from management to careers and activity workers are all very approachable and happy to chat. Residents are all lovely and all join in things together. I was worried about my son moving into a home as he's non verbal but I needn't of. My son is very happy and well looked after.

It is wonderful to hear that your son settled in so quickly and, most importantly, that he is happy and feels at home with us.We know that moving into a new home can be a big step, both for the person moving and for their family, particularly when someone may not be able to communicate their wishes and feelings verbally. It is therefore especially lovely to hear that the team took the time to get to know your son, his individual needs and all the things he likes and dislikes.

John Masefield House has gone through a turbulent time with a change in ownership, managers and then Covid. Now they are coming out strongly on the other side under the effective leadership of the new manager.

John Masefield House has gone through a turbulent time with a change in ownership, managers and then Covid. Now they are coming out strongly on the other side under the effective leadership of the new manager.
Despite these hurdles, I cannot fault the care and commitment from the care workers, nurses and activities staff. My sister has been at John Masefield for nearly 5 years and is loving it. John Masefield is a great improvement on her last home, which closed at short notice.
All the rooms have patio doors onto the gardens and there is a feeling of light in the home. There is always some sort of activity in the mornings and with their excellent chefs, tasty meals to look forward to. In the summer there are barbecues by the river.
A group of residents' family and friends meet monthly with the manager for an update and to discuss suggestions and any concerns. The group also meet to plan fund raising events, such as the Christmas party and summer fete.
