Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
We are extremely impressed with Alexander Care Home, Skircoat Green, Halifax (part of the Valorum Care Group). Mum has been a resident for many years, and we have complete peace of mind knowing she is cared for by the manager and her wonderful team. The care, home-cooked meals, and cleanliness are excellent.
Recently,
while we were away, Mum had a fall. The staff were outstanding - arranging swift medical care, keeping us fully updated, and ensuring her recovery was smooth and stress-free.
The manager has created a warm, home-from-home atmosphere. The team are compassionate, professional, and a true credit to Valorum.

My son is being cared for by the carers at StAnthonys Care Home. I have 100 per cent faith in how this home cares for my son. Every carer at the home and also the other staff who deserve a mention too. The admin team, the laundry service, the cleaners, the drivers etc etc. This is a home where everyone
who works there excels at their jobs.
This is Truly a Care Home full of Caring People.
I feel fortunate that my son is being cared for by these amazing people.
5 Stars for every aspect of the Home.
Well executed washing, no clothes going missing and other residents clothes in the drawers, as experienced in other homes. Clean tidy rooms. Fabulous food cooked by the excellent chefs. I can't think of a single thing to complain about. That's something to behold in this modern world.
This is a True Caring Home.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IN BIG!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. It means a great deal to hear that you have complete faith in the care and support your son is receiving at St Anthony's. We're delighted that not only our carers, but also the wider team - from admin, laundry, cleaning, and driving staff to our chefs - have made such a positive impression. Knowing that you feel reassured about the quality of care, the tidiness of the home, and the meals provided is exactly the standard we strive for every day. I'll be sharing your words with the whole team, who will be thrilled to hear the difference they are making. Your feedback is a reminder of why we do what we do, and we're truly grateful for your recommendation.

Douglas House is now a near perfect home for my darling wife, who has been a resident for the last 14 years.
It has own large car park.
It has a pleasing aspect to the eye from the front entrance.
It has large corridors that can let a wheelchair pass another, without any problem.
It has large, clean
and spacious rooms.(some rooms have their own shower room)
It has large and spacious bathrooms.
It has a beautifully kept garden with Koi Carp fishponds.
It has very large communal dining room and activities room.(Excellent in house Physio who works primarily out of activities room). Also activities team.
It has a wonderfully large balcony with various plant and vegetable pots.
Finally it has far more importantly a manager and her team of carers who actually do care for my wife and all other residents and love their job and are exceptionally good at it.
I'm more than happy how wife beautiful wife is being cared for and would wholeheartedly recommend Douglas House as a special carehome

My wife has dementia & was somewhat lost & confused upon arrival at Alexander House, but within a couple of weeks she had settled down & was relaxed and cheerful thanks to the amazingly attentive, cheerful & friendly staff all of whom are incredibly professional at everything they do. The rooms are
comfortable, well maintained, well ventilated, well furnished, clean & hygienic and all have an emergency call system. The food is tasty, plentiful and attractively served and professionally prepared on site by a suitably qualified cook with a wide choice for everyone each day, as well as welcome snacks also being made available between meals, (including welcoming coffee & biscuits for visitors whenever they arrive). Alexander House has a fully qualified Manager, "in post", and a Senior Member of Staff on duty at all times 24/7. They have an amazing Activities Manager who ensures that no-one is ever isolated, bored or lonely. This is a Team at the top of their Game doing an amazing job.

My mother-in-law was a bit unsettled when she first went to Alexander House but with the support and dedication of the carers soon started to enjoy being part of the family. Her bedroom was always clean and kept tidy and she always looked forward to her meals. There were always activities, painting,
craftwork and dominoes to keep her busy. Sometimes they would have visits from outside venues, small animals for the residents to hold or just watch which made most days entertaining and fun. It certainly made our life a lot easier knowing she was being well cared for, so thank you everyone for doing such a great job.

My dad has been lucky enough to have his care provided here for the last 12 months. The home is well led by a proactive, approachable caring manager, who delivers an extremely high standard of personalised care, treats every resident with dignity and respect, and the staff genuinely care for the residents
and their families. The activities staff deliver a wide variety of events on and off the premises and the facilities are superb. The home is kept spotlessly clean, clothes are carefully laundered, and all meals are of high quality. I am very impressed with Freshfields, and I would be happy to live there myself.

My dad has dementia and was so confused when he first went into Alexander House, but after 6 weeks he had settled down and seems to enjoy it. The staff are amazing with him (he can be difficult at times). The food is great and also the snacks that they are always eating. I can't thank them enough, it
makes me feel a lot better knowing he's in good hands. There's always things to do during the day, the ice cream van came the other week and also baby lambs came. The manager always has time for a chat, so a big thank you to everyone for looking after my dad.

Denison House Care Home

Well, I've tried and tried to log in to the ombudsman to complain! I rescued my mum in law from Denison House, March 21st 2024, after months and months of neglect. Residents neglected, left to rot in a chair all day with zero stimulation or entertainment. Management unable to find my mum's contract.
My mum was a mess with an extremely sore bum. so much so she could hardly sit down. Cream never re-ordered or applied. Lost a lot of weight, fingernails long, hair a mess and hairy chin not shaven. Also, two of her valuable rings missing, rings that previously would not come off her fingers. In December 23 they put over a 4 grand backpay on us from April 23. Thank heavens for the new home. Our mum is a new woman! Happy, eating, bum healed, stimulated/entertained, hair done, nails done and chin shaved for dignity. Denison House needs shutting down, in my opinion!

This place is awful, management lie. Meds given to suit their needs. My son was not bathed, lying in bed until 12 o'clock in a bed full of faeces and urine. Many occasions staff, 3 of them eating cake, talking very loudly in his room and totally ignoring him. There's so much to write but the one thing
I will say this place is dangerous. Reported to the council many times and about other residents, even staff have expressed how terrible this place is and how management are terrible. Avoid avoid avoid.

My husband was taken to Alexander House temporarily after a fall, he struggled to walk without assistance mainly because of dementia. The facilities and staff were first class and each day there was a different activity to keep the residents active, sadly he had to leave as a permanent place became
available at another care home, I would highly recommend Alexander House to anyone looking for a care home!

My mum has been a resident at Denison House for two and a half years, and in all that time, she has received kind, caring and loving attention. Denison House has a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff are always most obliging and helpful. We, as a family, are happy and grateful that
our Mum is safe and well looked after. Thank you to all the caring staff.

We reluctantly made the decision that my mum was no longer able to care for my dad at home, having looked after him for 16 years since his Parkinson's diagnosis. I can only reiterate comments from previous reviews that the staff are caring, compassionate and friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
We are also warmly greeted on each occasion that we visit Dad. We think Denison House is excellent and would highly recommend this care home.

My husband had been in a different care home for 18 months in another area, I managed to get him into Denison house in early April 2023 and can I say the level of care, the competence of the staff to do their job and most of all how my husbands need and dignity are managed gives me the confidence as
such it allows me to sleep at night in the knowledge he is being properly looked after which I didn’t feel before. The care home itself is perfect as my husband has a ground floor room which suits his needs and is always clean overall I am very happy with Denison's house as a whole from the lovely caring staff to the food and facilities.
