The staff always seem cheerful and ready to help. The cleanliness of Brook House is very good; it is bright and welcoming.
The care Mum has received has been excellent. I was concerned about 'putting her in a home' after 90+ years of independence but the friendly atmosphere and the professional 24hr
care have made it the right choice for both of us.
Particular thanks to the management team who arrange activities and events for letting Mum take part and feel a valued part of the Brook House family.

It is the people at Brook House that really make it a caring home. The team put great effort into every moment from keeping things running smoothly in the everyday care and proactively addressing the needs of the residents, to the celebrations - seasonal decorations and events, birthdays, games and
other activities. The garden and communal areas as well as the dog and cat that live onsite certainly enhance the environment. We visit our neighbour most weeks since he moved into the home earlier this year - at that time fragile, anxious, and with a number of health concerns. Over time we've seen him find his feet, feel more at ease, have health issues addressed, build trust and confidence, and start to make friends with other residents. The staff go out of their way to accommodate any requests during visits and ideas to improve his experience that we might have. A big thanks in particular to Manuela for always bringing a smile, compassion, professionalism, team stewardship, hospitality.

I am pleased to praise when praise is due. For the first, my sister was well and truly looked after in a warm, caring environment where the duty of care overall exceeded me and my family's expectations.
My sister, for the first time, never complained whatsoever, nor did I. There was never a reason.
My gratitude and thanks to the manager and all staff for their care, which was all too short for my sister's short stay at Hunters Down.
Reply from Anca Markley, Home Manager at Hunters Down Care HomeDear martin

We know how important it is to have peace of mind when a loved one is in care, and we're grateful that both you and your sister felt supported throughout her time with us. Fitzwilliam House

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Having visited a number of Care Homes in Cambridgeshire, looking for a suitable place for Carer's Respite for my Step Father to visit, we were so impressed with the Manager (Georgiana) and her staff at Fitzwilliam House that, even though the actual building was not as attractive as a Central Cambridgeshire
one we looked at, we decided Fitzwilliam was the right place for him.

The standards of care are amazingly high at my partner and I both agree that it is a classic case of good, caring practive filtering down from the top to the rest of the staff.

Well done to Georgiana and her Team at Fitzwilliam!!!!!

Reply from Georgiana Ispas, Home manager at Fitzwilliam HouseThank you so much for your wonderful feedback! We're delighted to hear that you felt confident choosing Fitzwilliam House for your stepfather's respite care. Our team works hard to ensure every person feels valued and cared for, and it means the world to know this was reflected in your experience. We truly believe that great care starts with a strong, compassionate team, and your kind words affirm that. We look forward to supporting your stepfather and making his stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible and we are glad he remained permanent part of our family.

I arrived on 4th November and was met by staff, I was immediately made to feel welcome and within an hour I had had a complete makeover. A fabulous start to what had been a difficult decision, moving into care from home in such a short space of time.
The staff here are amazing, they are professional
and respectful, they give their time freely, my room is immaculate and beautifully decorated in autumn colours. Staff regularly check if anything is needed and come quickly even when busy to reassure me that they will deal with my need asap.
My son came today, said I looked happier and healthier than I had done for weeks, I am
Mum again.
My journey has not been an easy one, diagnosed with MND in July and rapid progress in decline but feel I now have a quality of life here.
Thank you Buchan House.

Etheldred House

from Marissa C (Daughter of Resident) published on 3 December 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our father came to Etheldred in Dec 2024 after the previous care home couldn't care for him with the changes in his behaviour due to a decline in his dementia. He was unhappy where he was previously and felt like he was on 'house arrest'. We met Sharon on reception who showed us around the home and
clearly felt passionate that this was a home for the residents, where they were treated like a family. Her warmth coupled with all the staff we saw giving us a big smile or a hello really did help seal the deal for us. The home is beautiful and well kept but its the staff that make the home feel so welcoming. Our dad moved in just a week before Christmas and was nervous about the change. He soon settled in, with Elizabeth the nurse on the Pear House building a relationship with him and quickly finding an understanding of his likes, dislikes and love of food, bringing his last year of life lots of happiness and joy. The review is too short to fit it all in. Etheldred is a home from home

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I visit my wife a minimum of 3 times week and I keep a personal record of her position in bed and her unusual pains . She is bed bound and has suffered regular bouts of pain infront of me and sometimes staff .Apparently this is caused by side effects of Multiple Sclerosis, the pain recently is being
eased by the Local GP organising an alternative pain killer to Paracetomol tablets 3 times day, which has signicantly eased my wife's pain record. The nursing and carers are exceptional people ,all are very professional preserving their reputation of the patient has priority. I have witnessed this devotion of many staff delaying normal break times. My wife also suffers from chronic vertigo.so I often witness her having panic attacks while being carefully turned in Bed.and quickly soothed by the carers.Even when being hoisted for weighing purposes. I recommend St Georges Court as a Super Nursing Home to all. If I become permanently ill, I hope I find vacancy in it.
Reply from Jayne Wardell, Home Manager at St Georges CourtThank you for sharing your experience and for your kind words about our team. We're so pleased to hear that the recent pain management changes have brought relief for your wife. This is a friendly, caring, spotlessly clean and well organised care home. The staff are absolutely fantastic - keeping me up to date, knowing the residents in detail and able to answer questions as well as provide support. Although the building itself is not modern it is well maintained and light and
airy. Laundry services are mainly effective in ensuring everyone's clothing is returned. There are usually lots of activities in the main lounge. The only gripe really is that the food is a bit variable. The care home gets good support from its local GP practice and advanced nurse practitioner. The manager is excellent and very knowledgeable. They provided excellent very compassionate end of life care to my mum
Reply from Georgiana Ispas, Home manager at Fitzwilliam HouseThank you so much for sharing your thoughtful feedback. Were also pleased you noticed the cleanliness, the welcoming atmosphere, and the activities in the lounge. Your comments about the food being a little variable are very helpful; were always looking for ways to improve, and well share this with our catering team to ensure consistency.

My uncle Brian stayed at Hunters Down Care Home for just one week for end of life care, at the remarkable age of 98. During that short time, the care, compassion and respect he received was truly exceptional. Every member of staff treated him with such dignity and kindess - not just a person. Their
warmth, patience and professionalism gave our family great comfort at a very difficult time. We are deeply grateful to all the staff. Their dedication and humanity made all the difference.

Brian's remarkable life and the love surrounding him were evident, and we are grateful we could support him and your family at such an important time.
Please accept our heartfelt condolences and gratitude for trusting us with his care. If there is ever anything we can do for you, please don't hesitate to reach out.

My mum came here in Feb 2025 from the beginning she has been cared for in a wonderful way. I cannot thank all the staff she has been in contact with enough. The staff involved mum in all events even though she was deaf and I enjoyed the photos posted most days, I will cherish these for ever.
The final
days have been the hardest ever and all the staff treated my mum with respect and dignity right to the end. The care for us as a family was well appreciated.
Mum appeared to love them all. I fully recommend you to take a look and trust your loved ones to this wonderful place.

My father moved into Buchan House at the start of June. He had been in hospital for 7 months. We were very anxious about the move due to his dementia.
I met the manager on a tour prior to my dad moving in, and I immediately had a good feeling about the home and staff while I was on the tour. From early
visits, it was clear to see they care so much for the people staying there. Each day there are activities for the residents to be involved in.
The food is great quality, and I am kept up to date with my dad with calls from the staff. It is so satisfying that I know my dad is being looked after in such a great care home.
The home is very clean, well maintained and looked after. and all the staff are passionate about their work.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly, caring staff who are clearly looking after Grandma well and keeping her comfortable as she is now bedridden due to her advanced dementia. Our last visit was three days ago and our experience of her care hasn't changed at all since she was first admitted - really happy she's
in good hands.
Reply from Jan Davison, Home Manager at Glennfield Care HomeWe're truly grateful to hear that your Grandma is feeling comfortable and well cared for, especially during such a sensitive time in her journey. Our team is deeply committed to providing compassionate, consistent care, and it means a lot to know that this has been your experience from the very beginning.

Kevin and I came to see my father-in-law on his birthday to bring him a present and card. The reception area is like entering a hotel with a five-star rating. Very clean, bright and welcoming. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the bedroom my relative has is excellent, including the wet room. Lots
of space and a home from home. Our relative looked very comfortable when we arrived, and what was on the TV was very applicable to his interests.
Reply from Santall Horn, Home Manager at Etheldred HouseThank you very much for taking the time to do this review. I appreciate your the kind words and will make sure to pass this to the team.
