I was visiting my mum, aged (nearly!) 106, recently. A staff member, who was on maternity leave and had given birth to a daughter a few weeks ago, had brought her in to be admired by the staff. Knowing how much my mum loves small children, a staff member invited my mum and myself to the dining room
to see the baby. The mum of the baby asked my mum if she would like to hold her. My mum's face beamed with delight!! Another staff member caught the action on camera, absolutely brilliant!

My sister was a resident at Westfields care home, Swaffham, from May 2024 until September 2025, when she sadly passed away aged 91. During her stay, she was always treated as an individual with courtesy and respect. Nothing was ever too much for the staff and there was an excellent choice of daily
activities. Her medical needs were well looked after, with the local GP matron called in if there was any concern. I was impressed with the standard and choice of food, and cups of tea were always available. Her room was bright and cheery, as were her carers. The management team and admin staff were extremely accommodating, always ready to help. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Westfields. Well done, Westfields!

My Mother lived there for the last few years of her life - she recently passed away. Her life there was filled with care, love, compassion and happiness. The staff have been amazing. We have always been made welcome. In the last few weeks of her life they all went above and beyond for her and us, something
I will forever be grateful for. Mum's room had a beautiful view over fields and it was always kept clean. All the rooms are a lovely size with large en-suites. There is always something to keep them entertained. The food was always nourishing and we were always made to feel welcome to stay for a meal. A wonderful home.
Reply from Charli Alderton, Manager at Mayflower Court

Dear Lisa, thank you so much for this lovely review. We were fortunate to have cared for Mum, especially in the last few weeks. The song "Pretty Woman" will always be poignant to all at Mayflower Court.

What a lovely place for my stepmother to spend the last years of her life. The care and services she received was exceptional and I would be happy to recommend Westfields as a care home. Staff all friendly and accommodating, especially the lady who organises lovely activities to keep the residents entertained.
A big thank you from me to everyone.

The building has a light and airy feeling and is well laid out. The rooms are very generous in size. It's too warm in summer. The garden, although large is in need of care and attention including the seats. There is always a friendly welcome from all staff. The care staff are kind and supportive of
the residents and enjoy a laugh and banter with them and their families. There is a real family feeling and I as a relative am included in that. The management/team leaders are quick to respond to any concerns reported to them and likewise report any incidents and concerns for the residents to their families. The food seems good and there is plenty of it. Footcare and hairdressing is available on site for those wishing to partake of the,. Both ladies are pleasant and understand the problems surrounding those with dementia

There is always such a warm welcome at Harker House. Every member of staff is smiling and ready to help. The place smells so clean, looks well cared for and is spotless from the rooms to the dining room, communal areas and toilets. The cleaners are all friendly and take pride in their work, as do all
the caring staff and management. There is a strong sense of family of caring, of professionalism. I love visiting. My godmother is very happy and says she cannot fault a thing. The food is great. The maintenance team again caring and efficient. I cannot recommend it more highly.
Only marked down on room because it is small. But it is well equipped and clean.

Honestly can't put into words how amazing Harker house were with providing my Nanny the best care possible up until the very end. The staff and manager made sure my family were all looked after when the time was near by providing support, food and drinks and even a shoulder to cry on if needed. We couldn't
have asked for a better place for my nanny to life over the past year, the staff we all so welcoming to her on arrival and to our family when we came to visit. We really appreciate that you all went above and beyond to make nanny feel as if she was at her own home and that she was well looked after.

My husband spent over two years in St. Edmunds. He recently passed away and I am so glad that until the morning of his death he was being cared for by the staff there. He trusted them implicity with intimate care and enjoyed their company. He had fun to the very best of his ability and took part as
often as possible in the activities. The food, which was very important to him, was excellent, and Wednesdays cooked breakfast and Fridays fish and chips were days he looked forward to greatly. As for myself, the staff were friendly and supportive and always willing to listen and chat. It became my second home too. I highly recommend this home.

Mum moved into Green Lane View in October 2023 and loved it from the very start! Thanks to the managers, the care staff have been amazing, really looking after her and taking care of he needs. She made so many new friends in her short time living in her flat, getting involved in regular organised activities
(such as Bingo!) and quickly settling in. The chef, provided a wide variety of lovely food, and the person for Housing 21, was always happy to help should mum have any questions about her flat. The whole team are superb. Thank you Green Lane View for all you have done for mum as you really made her happy! -:)

Ellacombe

from F H (Respite Resident) published on 11 August 2025
Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
I felt I was left alone with nothing to do much of the time. There was no one to talk to, as most of the other residents were unable to communicate clearly. There were only 2 staff most of the time & they were kept busy with hoisting people in and out of places or chasing after the wanderers, or calming
others down, breaking up disputes, etc. An extra person would give out the medications.
Nights were scary with people shouting, moving around corridors, trying to open doors. My bed was linked to an alarm, so I was afraid to get off my bed. I went home traumatised.
Reply from Martin Mayega, Manager at Ellacombe

I am deeply saddened by your experience during your stay at Ellacombe and can only extend my sincere apologies for how you felt. This being a residential dementia home, there is bound to be some occasions where some residents are unable to communicate clearly, and where others take longer to settle at night. All respite rooms have got bed side alarms as an extra layer of safety. We have recruited new members of staff to ensure the right staffing levels and where we experience emergency absences, we have trusted partners who we currently work with to ensure that we are adequately staffed at all times. I can assure you that with new Management and structures in place, we have made significant strides in the right direction during the last few months. We will use this feedback to ensure that this situation does not happen again.

Recently, my husband has been admitted to Munhaven Care Home, as unfortunately, I can no longer give him the care at home to meet his needs. At Munhaven, I have nothing but praise for all those to care for their residents. Everyone is so kind, gentle, loving and treated with dignity to all they care
for; nothing is too much trouble. They have patience in abundance. I feel my husband's needs are well catered for and well looked after. I find nothing but kindness given to me and my family when visiting my husband.
