We need to put my mum in for respite. She was made welcome and she really enjoyed her stay for 3 weeks. We had an option to leave her for the 3rd week which we took advantage of due to personal circumstances she needed to stay a week longer. She really enjoyed the activities that were on every day.
She was very happy at Cotman House all staff looked after her needs very well. Mum said herself she could not fault the care and activities she was very happy.

Cotman House

I recently spent a week's respite in Cotman House following knee replacement surgery, as there was no one at home to look after me.
I found all the staff, from cleaner, kitchen staff, carers nurses and admin extremely helpful, friendly, caring and kind. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was plentiful,
varied, tasty, nutritious and mostly of excellent quality.
I was very impressed with the activities planned every single morning and afternoon. I only managed to attend 2 - the Silver Swans Ballet class, which I loved, and the Beetle Drive. From what I saw, the activities were well supported, and planned by an enthusiastic, lively team.
Although I wasn't able to make use of the garden, partly due to my mobility and partly because of the weather, the garden looked lovely and well tended.
When I have my other knee replaced, I wont hesitate to book into Cotman House, - that is if there's space and they'll have me!!!

It was with great sadness that we realised we could no longer care for my mother ourselves, and that she needed a team to keep her safe and well. Mellish House creates a warm, homely and cheerful environment absolutely appropriate for dementia sufferers. Staff are kind and patient with all, and very
willing to help visitors when they come to see their loved ones. The chef takes pride in his work; residents have a choice of meals that are extremely well prepared. Kind and thoughtful activities are arranged for all. Staff are easy to approach, and I have complete confidence in my mother's care.

Mum enjoys extended stays at Cotman house each year, in total several months. Despite being respite rather than permanently resident, the way the team welcome her is special -- I brought mum down for her last stay, during the fourth quarter of 2025, and on arrival we were met by a veritable posse of
charming, professional team members from Cotman who were clearly delighted to see her and made her feel comfortable and very welcome right from the start.
We have got to know Cotman well over the last few years. They are just a lovely bunch of genuinely caring people; despite the fact that mum's other home is over 600 miles away, she won't consider staying anywhere else which says a lot. Some of the individual team members are stand-out and I have seen why first hand, but truthfully they are all delightful. When mum is at Cotman, we all feel relaxed knowing she's not only in safe hands but she will be having a lovely time.

I chose Mellish House after it was recommended to me by a friend. I moved my dad here so he could be closer to me, allowing me to visit more often, and it was very important to me that I made the right decision.
I am pleased to say I truly did. I have been able to see Dad every week and have met so
many kind, caring, and professional staff who ensure that all Dad's needs are met. I am deeply grateful to each and every one of them. Thank you.

Bridget's dementia was complex, requiring a loving, dignified and dedicated staff to support her and keeping family informed and reassured at all times. All Mellish House staff go above and beyond without exception to ensure a happy, warm, clean and inviting environment with many stimulating activities
to suit all tastes and needs, including music, garden and general socialising. Good food provided at all times, and when offered to me found it difficult not to accept! Positives all round and to be recommended. A big thank you to all involved!

My Mum has lived at Mellish House for a few years now. She settled in remarkably quickly. The dementia nurse I had contact with during the first couple of years was extremely caring and knowledgeable and everyone at the home always keeps me well informed. Mum appears happy on visits and it is very
easy to visit her whenever we like. There are always plenty of staff around.

Over the years that my wife has been in Mellish House, she has been looked after very well. When possible, she was taken out when the weather was good and would be out in the garden. My wife always liked music, so from time to time, a singer would come to Mellish. It may be a silly thing to say, but
all the staff are very caring. From my point it was good that I could visit anytime, that we were able to celebrate our anniversary, and that my wife was being looked after well.

My husband recently spent 19 days in respite care at Cotman House. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming and the standard of care was excellent. The atmosphere there is very positive and pleasant.
The building and surroundings are modern and clean and they have a beautiful well kept garden.

My mum has been a resident at Mellish House for 18 months. During this time my mum was happy and settled, we watched her become one of the Mellish family with every staff member making her feel special and all our family members welcome at any time. Mum was shown care and kindness at the highest level
and staff went above and beyond their duties. As a family, we felt relaxed and comfortable when there but more importantly knew mum was well looked after when we were not. This gave us the time for our own lives which made seeing Mum and joyful time. Staff kept us informed of any changes and acted quickly when it was necessary. Mum always said she did not want to go into a home and we struggled with the decision but from day one we knew Mellish was the safest place for her and it soon became her home. When Mum died, the staff cared for Mum and us, something I will never forget. Mellish House is a special place with very special people in it, I will be forever thankful.

My brother stayed at Cotman House for three weeks in November/December 2024, to recuperate from a full hip replacement. My brother has learning difficulties and autism. Cotman House provided a safe and happy environment for him and he loved all the staff and the many activities provided for residents.
Everyone at the home is friendly, helpful and caring, and I also received moral support from key members of staff, which was invaluable. I cannot thank everyone enough. My brother lives locally and it is a great comfort to know that, when the time comes, there will be a lovely place for him to go and live. It is excellent in every respect.

My father initially went to Cotman House for a 3 week respite break, with a view to make this a permanent residency should he feel happy and settled, and the home met his needs.
My first impression was of a clean and modern home, spacious, with a great location and stunning views over the seafront.
The
staff that handled our initial enquiry and application, were very friendly and professional, everything was carefully explained.
My positive comments are:
The staff are very good, always in good spirits and they communicate well with my father, and ourselves.
The home is clean and well organised, the various social spaces mean that there is always somewhere quiet to sit, the views are fantastic, the garden is also a little gem.
Activities take place twice a day, and include light chair exercises for physical activity, singing, crafts, games etc, plus there is a dedicated cinema room.
There is a cafe on the lower floor, very useful.
We feel very involved and welcomed as visitors.
