Hartley House Care Home

from Michael M (Husband of Resident) published on 30 January 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My wife has been at Hartley House for 18 months now. In that time her vascular dementia has swung constantly and neither the staff or myself know where we'll be in the next hour.
Having looked at several other homes, I chose Hartley for several reasons - it is single story, and so she was not shut
in on the first floor. Being built around two courtyards it is easy to navigate. Another point is that - there is never any smell- you can't say that about some other homes.
No matter what her mood, ALL of the staff are wonderful. I was amazed that after the first week, many of them already greeted me warmly by my first name.
There is an open door policy with regard to the Manager, Team Leaders and so you can always talk to them.
Her room is probably the furthest from the main door and like some others is due for refreshing in the near future.
In the unfortunate circumstance that a relative or loved one needs dementia care, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Hartley House.
Reply from Eleanor Healthcare Group, Hartley House Team at Hartley House Care HomeThank you so much for sharing your experience so openly. It's clear how much thought and care went into choosing the right place for your wife, and we're truly grateful that you placed that trust in Hartley House. Dementia can bring so many ups and downs, and we're glad the team has been a consistent, supportive presence for both of you. Your kind words about the staff, the environment, and the open communication really do mean a lot and we're always here to listen, support, and improve wherever we can. Thank you again.

Joan was so well cared for at Halden Heights, she very quickly became friends with all the staff there, no matter what their role. She felt at home and loved. It was a great comfort to us to know Joan was being so well looked after. The rooms are clean, there was a good choice of food, and the activities
were fun and varied. We felt extremely welcome as family members too and always greeted with a friendly smile.
Reply from Eleanor Healthcare Group, Halden Heights Team at Halden Heights Nursing HomeThank you so much for your lovely message. It's truly heartwarming to hear how at home Joan felt, and that the connection she built with the team brought comfort to you all. Knowing she felt loved and well cared for means everything. The place is clean and doesn't smell of urine or poop which is very common in some home care facilities. The well kept gardens are a refuge for mentally and physically able patients to relax and mingle.
The staff are very friendly and always ready to listen, not only to the patients concerns but to
the family members as well.
Patient care is excellent despite of personnel shortage at times. I hope that administration will be able to solve the staffing problem.
I don't know the inner workings but I can say that
The facility is like a well oiled machine that runs very smoothly.
Thank you to everyone.
Reply from Eleanor Healthcare Group, Halden Heights Team at Halden Heights Nursing HomeThank you so much for your thoughtful and honest message. My mum came into the home in October 24. At first it was very good, but went very down hill when the then manageress left. I, and my family were concerned, but under the present manageress the improvements have been really good. She is very approachable and hands-on, and the staff are caring and friendly.
We have all noticed the improvement in the atmosphere in the home. It now feels welcoming again, and I am always updated on any change in my mum's health. I am very pleased with Mum's case
Reply from Eleanor Healthcare Group, Pine Lodge Team at Pine Lodge Care HomeThank you so much for your honest and thoughtful feedback. We understand how unsettling it can be when things change, so it's really encouraging to hear that the improvements under the new manager have made such a difference. It's great to know the home now feels welcoming again and that communication has been reassuring. We're truly grateful for your trust and are so pleased to hear your mum is doing well.

As soon as my mum walked into Lavenders, she knew it was the right place for her. She was fed up with living until she moved in.
My mum loved living at Lavenders, it's a warm, friendly, well-established home with friendly , caring staff and residents that openly welcomed her. She had a new lease of
life, it was wonderful to watch - she bloomed.
She loved the home cooked food on offer and the cooks were happy to talk to her to adjust meal size to her needs. She was always telling us what was on the menu.
Unfortunately, she was only there for a short time, but long enough to know that she was happy there. She had her own room . There is plenty of activities to do which she joined in and loved.
She had as much help with her needs as she needed, still keeping her independence, going for walks around the lovely grounds or the town/park nearby or out in the car with us.
It's a shame that she couldn't have more time at Lavenders - she loved it. Thank you for looking after her!
Reply from Eleanor Healthcare Group, Lavender's Team at LavendersThank you so much for sharing such a heartfelt message. It's incredibly moving to hear how your mum found comfort, joy, and a renewed sense of life during her time with us. Seeing someone truly bloom and feel at home is everything we hope to offer. We're so sorry her time with us was short, but it means the world to know it was meaningful, not just for her, but for your whole family. Thank you for your trust, and for letting us be part of her journey.

During my visit, I found the home to be spotless and fresh-smelling. The staff greeted me with warm, friendly smiles. The residents were comfortably seated in the lounge, all dressed nicely. I spent most of the day there, and it was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed their activities. It truly brightened
my day to see elderly residents happy, engaged, and not just sitting alone in a corner waiting for family. Halden Heights truly feels like a caring family home

My wife. Jacqueline was admitted on the 22 October 2025 following a recomendation from the FraIlty Unit to be end of life with, vascular dementia.
The past two plus months has been a massive learning curve, having never visited a care home.
From the initial greeting to the present day, the staff,
collectively, have been exceptional, putting my mind at rest in the knowledge that she is in safe hands.
Attention to detail is most impressive and especially with daily updates, advising generically upon her responses, sadly having zero speech ability to communicate.
The senior carer is most impressive in her duty,. and all staff following her guidance and very welcoming.
It is dsiffuicult after 48 years of marriage, and togerther for approaching 54 years and sadly no longer together, but sadly she is where she neeed/has to be and my mind, although still coming to terms, it is comforting to know that she is geeting the right care and attention
Reply from Eleanor Healthcare Group, Halden Heights Team at Halden Heights Nursing HomeThank you so much for sharing something so personal and heartfelt. We can only imagine how difficult this journey has been for you. After so many years together, making the decision to entrust someone you love to the care of others is never easy. It means a great deal to us that you've felt reassured and supported along the way. Your kind words about the team and the care Jacqueline is receiving are deeply appreciated. We're honoured to be here for both of you during this incredibly hard chapter, and we'll continue doing all we can to ensure she's comfortable, safe, and treated with the dignity she deserves. I can't speak highly enough about this wonderful care home. My friend has been living here, and the level of care, kindness, and genuine compassion shown by everyone is truly exceptional. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the warmth and friendliness that makes this place feel like a real home.

The

nursing and care staff are professional, attentive, and always go above and beyond to make sure every resident feels safe, comfortable, and respected. They take the time to build real relationships, treating everyone with patience and dignity.

The kitchen staff deserve special praise - the food is always fresh, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. They make sure everyone's dietary needs and preferences are met with care and attention. You can tell they put love into every meal.

The cleaners do an amazing job as well. The home is always spotless, tidy, and fresh-smelling, creating such a pleasant, welcoming environment. It's clear that cleanliness and comfort are top priorities

My mother in law was a resident here for just over two years. The care she received in this time was outstanding. The whole team on floor 2 treated Doreen with care and kindness. You could see they all loved their residents. The staff were always on hand to help not only Doreen but her family too. Giving
us endless tea and coffee in her final hours with us. We were given privacy to grieve together. They made her look beautiful on her last day with us. A big heartfelt thank you from all of Doreen's family for the care, kindness and dignity you gave her during her time with you.

are a variety of activities for the residents to take part in on a daily basis.
