We used Foxby Court for respite in July for 2 weeks and we were very apprehensive but everyone was so welcoming and friendly. So when we needed some more respite Foxby Court was our first choice. This time around mum seemed so much more settled and at home( not that she wasn't in July) Every carer remembered
her. The care staff are amazing and nothing is to much trouble for them. She was a bit reluctant to get involved with the many activities but with a little bit of encouragement she soon got involved. The television room just of the dining hall was her go to place and you would often find her in there with a group of ladies watching tv and chatting. The staff would also inform us of everything she had been doing and her health. The staff treated my mum with respect and compassion at all times and make it feel like home. I can not rate the home or staff highly enough and would not hesitate to use this home again.
Thank you all so much for everything you have done for my mum and us.

Truly caring and helpful staff which is by far the most important thing in a care home for the elderly. Excellent food, pristine cleanliness. The residents are well taken care of. The rooms are a little on the small side but the facilities really are good value for money. I am very happy that my father
is so well cared for.

Hartsholme House

from Peter D (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 14 November 2025
Submitted via Postal Card • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
In Hartsholme House, I see lots of examples of great leadership: Setting an example, being respectful, not only of residents (& their visitors) but also of one another, upholding values of dignity and standards ultimately in the selection of staff who really care about vulnerable people, who speak clearly
without impatience of condescenion helping all staff to be leaders and behave accordingly, engaging professionalism so all residents are treated with respect regardless of educational attainment, gender, skin colour, race or religion. I see carers discreetly doing 'the right thing' when no one is watching, eg bringing headgear to protect a resident's head whilst sitting in bright sunshine or checking how a resident acquired scratches on her forearm. HH enriches residents' lives by sharing gardening tasks, hosting religious meetings, and even taking a new resident for walks outside the home, to aid her settling in. From what I see, Hartsholme House is often a joyful place to live with laughter and fun, if you feel like it! Thank you for everything you do for my mother-in-law.

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
My auntie was in Skirbeck Court as a respite resident for a month. The staff (particularly the secretary) were very helpful. My auntie loved the afternoon teas and the chocolate eclairs on a Sunday. The food was very good generally. Staff were helpful in taking the phone to my auntie so that she could
take phone calls with family. Lack of ensuite room was a problem when a toilet was required frequently, so sadly had to move to other accommodation.

My mother was moved into Skirbeck Court in August 2025 straight from Pilgrim Hospital. She was badly let down by the hospital and then by the community nurses and GP, but the staff at the Care Home were brilliant and really caring. I cannot praise them high enough. They tried so hard to make up for
the NHS short comings. Sadly she lost her last battle on the 14th August, but once again the staff were so compassionate and sensitive.

My mum has been resident for over 2 years and has always received beyond exceptional care from all of the staff past and present. I know my mum is safe and respected which is vitally important for me as I an distance away.
Mum often shares amazing stories and countless incidents of exceptional care
from all staff members.
Mums dedicated carer goes above and beyond shift after shift and is always there for advice and an update for me on mums status. The leadership Team offer next level support and the other staff including the cleaning team and canteen staff always provide mum with what she needs. The operation at Skirbeck Court is geared toward resident care which is front and centre from where I sit.
Mums room affords a view of the garden which is immaculate and I know gives her pleasure looking at it.
I know mum loves all of the staff despite her conditions often causing her to snap. The response from all staff is always calming and reassuring.
Thank you all for all you do.

My husband was a resident in Whitefriars for 2 years until his death on 26/5/25. The standard of care was always good but the care he received from the majority of the staff caring for him for the last 5 days of his life was truly outstanding. As a nurse with 40 years experience I know that this was
exceptional care, he would not have received better care anywhere, even in a hospice. Thank you to all the staff concerned.

As a partial wheelchair user myself and after losing my dad 3 months ago, I looked at many care homes and Boultham Park stood out head & shoulders above the rest, and totally lived up to that for my mums stay it was a real "home from home" with staff treating my mum as if she were their own care wise.
It really was outstanding. The only comment or something to build on would be that rooms aren't huge an dont have their own toilet but none of this really matters when everything else is so special & caring. Thank you so much to all of the staff for their exceptional care xxxx
