Goodson Lodge Care Centre

Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
Initialy we felt Goodson Lodge was exellent, as time passed there were a few things we felt could be improved. At times checking in on the patient more frequently would have been helpful, particularly with bed bound patients. I feel on a whole, the staff were obliging and always polite. Our whole experience
reflected GL need more staff on each floor. Then GL would be an exellent place to stay.
Reply from Katerina Pippi, Team Member at Goodson Lodge Care CentreThank you very much for taking the time to give us very valuable feedback. We're pleased to hear your initial experience at Goodson Lodge was excellent and thank you feel comfortable to share your views. Review of

Willowcroft

from Trevor L (Son of Resident) published on 12 December 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum has been in Willowcroft since being compelled to leave her home after a fall, being admitted to hospital first, then welcomed to Willowcroft on a permanent basis. Mum was self sufficient at home and, having lived there for 70 years, it was a very tough time for her and the family in accepting what
was, really, unavoidable.
However, 5 months later, Mum has settled very well, and is comfortable, warm, fed, & watered very satisfactorily. I personally feel she is actually better off in the home as it takes all the pressures away of living on her own at a very old age. The staff, without exception, are always very willing to help with whatever is necessary in making the residents feel at home.
Thank you to all the carers & management at Willowcroft for your efforts to ensure Mum's happiness & acceptance of the situation. All of the family are at ease now as we know the care for our dear old Mum is exemplary.
Reply from Steve Gardner-Collins, On behalf of the team at WillowcroftThank you so much for taking the time to share this heartfelt review. We understand how difficult and emotional the transition can be when a loved one leaves their home after so many years, and we're truly grateful for the trust you and your family placed in Willowcroft during such a challenging time. It's wonderful to hear that your mum has settled in well and is feeling comfortable, supported, and cared for. Our team strives to create a warm, welcoming environment where every resident feels at home, and your kind words mean a great deal to all of us. Knowing that your family now has peace of mind is exactly what we hope to provide. Thank you again for your appreciation and for recognising the efforts of our carers and management. It is a privilege to look after your mum, and we remain committed to ensuring her continued comfort and happiness.

My mother was a resident for 13 months, on Harnham ward. She wasn't the easiest of people to care for, but Philipia and her team looked after her with care and compassion. All the staff from reception, through to the kitchen went out of their way to accomodate all of her requests, including soup for
breakfast. Her end of life care was excellent allowing her to pass with dignity and pain free.

We knew immediately that this was the place for mum. Everyone was friendly from the very first visit, and this has continued. We particularly like that the rooms for those with dementia are on the ground floor, giving ready access to lounges and the lovely gardens. The care team seem to really know
the residents and are good at maintaining communication/ The management team have been helpful with ongoing admin and financial arrangements. Everyone contributes to create a homely atmosphere.

Mum was always treated with kindness and respect. All staff knew her name and mine. She was a resident for just short of 9 years until her death. She was living with dementia and could be challenging at times. I found the staff easy to talk to about any minor concerns I had. Her birthday and Christmas
were always celebrated and presents given. The food was excellent and was made easier for her to manage towards the end of her life. I would strongly recommend this care home.

As will be apparent from the table below, I have found all aspects of life and care at Seymour House to be good since I was admitted direct from hospitalisation in May 2022. The past 3 years have been difficult for all staff- short handed and overloaded but employees and volunteers are remarkably good
humoured and helpful "beyond the call of duty" inspite of the vagaries of national and local policy makers.

My mother spent a week of Respite care at Goodson Lodge. She had been rather poorly before she went in and I was amazed how much better she looked after only 2 days! All of the staff were very friendly and made her feel special, and her care was adapted to suit her abilities. She ate well and took part
in many of the daily and diverse activities, enjoying the social aspect of the home. The family had to fit our visits in to when she wasn't busy! She is already planning on going back for another 'holiday', possibly for longer.

The overworked staff at Hungerford House are amazing.
They are always kind, caring and attentive to residents' needs.
The staff have taken the time to get to know all the residents, fully understanding their individual needs and wants.

appropriate to residents' needs.

My father has been in Coombe End for 10 weeks and generally it has been a positive experience. The things he has mentioned which he is less happy about are his breakfast is often late and there is no chair in his room for visitors. Overall things are progressing slowly but hopefully he will settle in
and socialise.

Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
Sadly I cannot recommend this care home. My mother's basic needs were often not met. I have made numerous complaints both to the care home, the trust, care quality commission etc. daily carers are very good. Night time staff and managers are definitely not good. My mother passed away in the home and
an inquest is being held due to a fall shortly before her death. Quite frankly they must do better! Those who cared for mum during the day were compassionate and caring. Managers pretty clueless as were some care leads and overnight staff.
Reply from Louise Axtell, Divisional Director at Goodson Lodge Care CentreI am very sorry to hear about your experience and offer our sincere condolences for your loss. Although we are glad that you found some members of the day team to be compassionate and caring, we take the concerns about other parts of your mother's care very seriously. As you know, we investigated your concern at the time, and reported this to the Care Quality Commission, who reviewed and closed the matter. We are committed to learning from all feedback and always aim to improve the quality of care we provide. While we understand your experience was distressing, we do not believe that some of the personal comments made truly represent the professionalism and dedication of our entire team.

Our dad was a resident here for about 8 months until his condition deteriorated and was admitted to hospital and then on to a nursing home. During his time here he received very poor personal care and little to no social stimulation. Lack of communication between staff and poor management led to many
distressing issues for our dad that could have been resolved if the family had been informed but this rarely happened. Dads clothes and personal items often went missing and not much effort was put into finding them despite being labeled, no explanation was ever given as to why this happened and it cost my dear mum a lot of money to keep replacing them.
Could never find staff, especially at weekends and they were never witnessed sitting with the residents for social interaction.
I would not recommend this place for your loved one unless some serious changes are made to management and a vast improvement on care.
Reply from Rhiannon Freeman-Gray, on behalf of the team at Buckland CourtThank you for your feedback. It is disappointing to hear that your father's experiences fell short of the high standards we set ourselves. Please be assured your concerns have been thoroughly investigated, addressed and any learnings shared with the team .Since your father was at Buckland Court there have been changes to the management team.

My mum has been in Ridgeway House just over a year now. She has settled in really well; all the staff are so lovely, kind and caring to her and to me at this difficult time.
Thank you so much to you all. xx

The care my mother has received over the last 2 years has been excellent. All the carers and staff have been very kind and have shown a huge amount of patience. They all treat my mother such dignity and are on hand to deal with any queries I might have. The manager & staff take the time to ask me how
I am doing which is very thoughtful as sometimes I feel low and emotional. The food here always looks so good. Everyone here is very aware of keeping my mum's affairs private.
Excellent all round! I feel my mum is very safe at Brookside.

My mother has been a resident of this lovely care home for 16 months. The carers are wonderful & I'm delighted with the level of care she receives. She enjoys many of the activities laid on, especially animal visits & anything musical. The menus are varied and tasty. Everything is kept clean. The decor
throughout the building is very pleasing & the garden pretty & well-kept. Her 91st birthday was celebrated with a cake & gifts. Knowing she is safe & so well-cared for gives me peace of mind every day.

I can't praise staff enough for their dedication over the 2 years Mum has been at Seymour House so far.
They are all so caring and really know Mum as a person, familiar with her likes and dislikes and make sure she gets what she needs to make her life happy.
She always looks well cared for, very content
and her health needs are met well met.

It is a well run home with a proactive team.
Families are made very welcome at visits even providing meals on request.
I am kept informed about changes or new care needs promptly for Mum. I can join in activities or contribute to meetings about the day to day management of the home.

They go out of their way to provide the best quality life she can have, encouraging her to join in activities and to socialise with residents.

It is a cosy, well maintained and tastefully furnished home with communal areas for residents to mix or sit quietly. The rooms have activities available and there is a wonderful events team too.

5 stars well deserved!
