Review of Goldielea Residential Care Home from William H (Husband of Resident) published on 29 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
I attended a meeting with home manager & she informed us of the refurbishment planned in the near future.
This included redecoration & new lighting & new flooring in certain areas.
Some of this work has been carried out.
My wife has been in Goldielea since January & I have found the staff to be friendly & helpful.
The cook asks me if there is any thing my wife would like her to make specially as it is difficult to get her to eat.
It is easy to contact the management team.
There are a good range of activities available.

It is good to see areas being refurbished.

Review of Goldielea Residential Care Home from P F (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 March 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother spent two weeks of respite care in Goldilea Care Home in January 2026.. It was the first time she had ever spent any time in a care home, so we were all quite nervous about how she would manage. Actually I probably found it harder leaving her there! On the whole the staff were lovely & ready to help in any way. She had lots of people to visit every day and were made very welcome. My mother didn't enjoy the food much, but she didn't have much of an appetite. (I thought the food usually looked quite nice - and I read lately the chef has recently won an award.) They were always happy to make something she'd like instead. Goldilea is an old house which could do with some updating, but overall we were happy with the level of care she received. The Manager was very helpful and most of the staff involved in her care were friendly and professional. Obviously being at home is preferable, but we were grateful for the opportunity for respite care.

Review of Annan Court Care Home from W W (Daughter of Resident) published on 1 November 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

The home is starting to drop in standard of support to residents. Over the time my resident has been in, I see a difference. Shame as it's a lovely home. Also for care to staff, this is not due to manager, don't think the company support people's views, full of promises but will wait and see. I think seniors or deputy managers should be trained on giving insulin to residents.

My mothers window needs repair/replaced as it is difficult to close properly and it can be very draughty when windy. While my mother is well looked after by the staff, I feel her room is looking a bit tired.
The lady in charge of the entertainment is very professional and tries to be inclusive of the residents when appropriate.
The choice of food is well balance.
Recently there has been a large turnover of staff but I am aware of steps to address this.

My mother is settled and is happy with the day to day running of the home.

I am always impressed with the level of care when visiting my Granny, however hadn't been for a while when I went this week.
The ladies dealing with her were compassionate and professional. She felt safe in their care. They are genuinely lovely people who care about their jobs. One lady in particular was amazing.
People working in the care sector are heroes - the sooner the government recognise that, the better. They deserve to be paid so much more.

Thank you to you all.

My mum has been a resident here for just over a year. She is cared for with true kindness and dedication. My mum has dementia which often makes tasks for the staff more demanding but they are not phased and show great professionalism.

Review of Goldielea Residential Care Home from Margaret C (Sister of Resident) published on 24 June 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My brother got a place at Goldilea Care Home with only 2 days' notice, so was quite a shock as we thought it would be a while for a suitable place, due to increased falls my brother was unsafe and had lost his confidence. I found the staff very helpful and went above and beyond to accommodate my brother so that his transition would go smoothly. The relative meeting was very beneficial to me and I realised just how much the present manager was improving things and communicating all plans to us. I feel very valued as a relative and feel staff are there to care for my brother but interested in me and my family. An activity worker has started and there are various events. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed a sing-song in April and I look forward to many other events taking place. My brother is safe and I am happy with the care. My brother has clothes laundered and has regular input from nurses, occupational health as well as hairdressers and podiatrists. Spacious clean home.

Review of Goldielea Residential Care Home from Judith C (Wife of Resident) published on 5 June 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

When my husband was first admitted to Goldielea in May 2021 they had a very good manager. Sadly she left. After that Goldielea went through a very difficult time mainly due to the incompetence of the succession of managers. As a result of all this atrocious management the home received a very bad report from the Care Commission. There was a lot of unrest with both staff and relatives and a lot of the staff walked out. They had real problems recruiting staff. But since the present manager has been in post the home has radically improved. The embargo on admissions has been lifted and the whole atmosphere has changed. All the staff are extremely helpful and obliging. My husband is very settled there and he loves the staff and they appear to love him. This is very important because it was a very difficult decision to have him admitted so it means the world to me to see him happy. The staff are extremely accommodating with any requests I make.

Review of Goldielea Residential Care Home from M T (Daughter of Resident) published on 31 May 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mum has been a resident at Goldilea for two and a half years. She settled in really well and is still happy with all aspects of her care, as am I. There have been some concerns regarding management and staff employment, this appears to be more settled now but it has taken some time for this to happen. Because of this some good staff left the home and there was a period of uncertainty. I do notice that there are still bank staff helping out at times which I feel is detrimental to continuity, however all the staff I have met have been very good. Mum gets on really well with all of the staff and they do seem to have built up a rapport with her. Mum is happy with her room and it is generally kept nice and tidy. Mum enjoys her food and her preferences are catered for. Her clothes are laundered and there are no issues with the service provided. All of the staff know mum well now and she likes to have a wee blether with them all. On a nice day, Mum can sit out in the garden if she wishes.

Mum has settled well although it did take some time.
She has been here since Sept 2023.
Food is good, although finds soup and sandwiches nearly every night is becoming boring.

Disappointed there are very little activities.

Review of Annan Court Care Home from Laura A (Daughter of Resident) published on 27 October 2023 Submitted via Website

My father reluctantly had to go into the care home, as he eventually needed 24-hour care and support. Upon arrival, the staff quickly alleviated any issues or concerns my father had as to being a resident. My father's main concern was if he was not to be treated as an individual. My father took to the staff, laughing and joking with them and realised they treated him as a person who had stories to tell, a family of his own and a career prior to retirement. My father loved the food and would sample everything on the menu that day. Every member of staff treated my father as if he were a family member, with dignity and respect right up to his last day.

Poor communication with staff and relatives re changes having taken place already with the specialist dementia unit. Unit door left open to connect with the main house, how does that keep people with advanced dementia safe? Staff skilled in dementia care pulled from dementia care to general care without fully knowing all the residents and their needs. How is that safe practice?

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Goldielea Residential Care Home

Hello Gail. Thank you very much for your feedback. We appreciate your high score for staff and would like to reassure you that every team member at Goldielea completes mandatory dementia training as part of their induction process. The day-to-day care of my mother is good and the staff show a high degree of care and dignity. They always treat my mother with dignity and friendliness and have time to talk to her and ensure she is comfortable. The activities that are organised within the home are of a high standard.
