My husband was transferred to the home from hospital. I was met by staff with smiles, consideration & empathy. My husbands health improved due to the good care given by staff. Carers on the unit are amazing, giving each patient friendship & car required by all different aspects of dementia. All the
unit is kept clean, which is no easy task, all the staff are clean & tidy & very pleasant. I could ask for nothing more. Also staff have supported me along this traumatic journey.

Chestnut Lodge Care Home

from C G (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 17 January 2025

Granddad has been in this nursing home for almost 3 months receiving end of life care. The nursing home staff without exception are all very caring and professional and do a wonderful job of looking after granddad. We have visited almost daily and called daily often more than once a day and were at
no point ever made to feel we were inconveniencing them. They were always on hand to update us on granddad's progress and care. Granddad has dementia so caring for him is at times quite challenging. The staff have treated granddad with dignity and respect and in a time when it was not possible for Granddad to be looked after at home gave him the next best alternative. We thank every staff member for their care and for getting to know our precious granddad and dad as a person and looking after him so well. No words will ever be able to convey our gratitude to each and every one of the staff. Thank you all so very much.

Chestnut Lodge Care Home

from Patricia K (Daughter of Resident) published on 13 January 2025

My father was admitted to the nursing home after being in hospital with dementia and a cancer growth on his temple. He had lost a substantial amount of weight as he wouldn't/couldnt eat there.
He went to the home in September. He quickly settled and ate plenty of food (even things he previously hadn't
liked). He put on 11lb very quickly. The staff were brilliant with him (he was very stubborn at times) but were able to get him to comply through their patience and persistence, never pushing him to do things he didn't want to do. Dad passed away Boxing Day and even to his last, the staff (nurses and care workers) were good and kind to him, calling a GP whenever they felt he needed it especially as he had cancer and checking on him every 15 minutes during his last few days.
Myself, my husband and my children cannot praise the home enough. A member of my family rang every day without fail and always received a complete update. I was also called if dad had any problems at all.

My mum has been here for 3 years, and the care she has received has been magnificent. She was withdrawn, underweight and lost when she arrived but now she has daily stimulation, staff who care and love her. She now has a healthy weight, interacts with everyone and is always smiling or singing with happiness.
I am so pleased with the care my mum receives and the way our family is kept informed of her progress and any issues. The best thing that we ever did for our mum was to move her to Harrogate lodge!

Mum has Alzheimer's and has been at Harrogate Lodge for over 2 years. The care and attention she has been given and the welcome we get when we visit is excellent. Mum is happy she has been difficult at times but the staff have the training and understanding to manage dementia patients. She is kept occupied
and enjoys the activities provided. I have peace of mind that she is being well cared for.

Mum has settled in well to Harrogate Lodge and seems to have developed a good relationship with the staff.
I am kept up to date with any physical changes that have occurred. Both myself and my family are welcome to see Mum at any time. The home made every effort to help Mum to engage in the activities.

My husband was in Harrogate Lodge, Leeds for almost five years. A wonderful, caring home. All the staff are wonderful, caring people. He was extremely happy there. He passed away in February this year. His care towards the end was amazing. They looked after me and my family with the most professional
care. I still like to go into the home as I have, over the years, made such wonderful friends. I cannot praise them enough for all they have done for our family.

The staff are very attentive and compassionate. Nothing is too much trouble for them from the care staff, admin staff and catering staff - they are a great team. They have ensured my grandad's move was as comfortable as possible. We call every evening and we are always updated on how grandad's day/healthcare
has been.

Mum has been a resident on the dementia suite for two years now. During this time she has received outstanding care. The staff are like an extended family and treat her with kindness and respect. Her room is always clean and tidy and there a is lovely co-ordinator who provides excellent daily activities
to keep residents involved.
Mum is taken out and there is a garden to sit out in when the weather permits.
Staff care about the resident and their family and a lovely warm welcome always awaits on each visit. I receive regular updates and staff are always approachable if I have any concerns. Can't praise them highly enough for their care and dedication to keeping Mum safe and happy.

Chestnut Lodge Care Home

from Louise A (Daughter of Resident) published on 22 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mum moved into Chestnut Lodge on discharge from hospital. Initially, she was anxious and unsettled and having dementia didn't help as she really didn't understand where she was and why she was there. She was on the dementia ward on arrival but within a week this was discussed with myself and staff
and it was decided that the better option for my mum at the time would be the residential unit. A move so soon after arrival wasn't an easy transition but the staff were absolutely fantastic with her and with me providing support and reassurance. She is eating again, taking her medication, socialising with others, participating in the activities and is more positive in herself. The staff are super hard-working, kind, passionate and loving. My mum is gaining weight, taking care of her appearance and they support her well with this. Thank you to staff for caring for my mum and allowing me to visit her as her daughter and not her carer.

Lack of communication with the staff and the patients and the food is not at all good. The staff are not nice and polite, and some of the staff very rude to the people.

Review of

Fleetwood Heights Care Home

from A B (Daughter of Resident) published on 10 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

Dad went into this home at the end of August on palliative care fast track. We only had the choice of 2 nursing homes and we were falsely led to believe that Dad would receive the best care possible. It had only just re-opened under new management and seemed to cater for everything Dad would require
in his last few months of life. How wrong were we? Dad had no dignity, he was left in bed with no underwear on. He often slept in clothes he'd worn all day. The room that he was in quickly began to smell of urine and the stench in the bathroom was unbearable. The Nurse in charge left the premises and did not complete the necessary paperwork to certify his death so he was just left in his room for almost 10 hours. That home should never have re-opened. The staff were clueless and never around when needed. Some could barely speak English. My dad was a very proud, dignified man and I'm devastated that he spent the last 18 days of his life in a place where he just wasn't cared about.

Reply from Peter Benham, Managing Director at Fleetwood Heights Care Home

We are truly sorry that we failed in meeting your fathers's needs at Fleetwood Heights. We have taken steps to understand what went wrong and to ensure the right standards of care are in place moving forward. The staff responsible have been held accountable for the failings within the home. Kind regards

The management and medical staff were absolutely brilliant when my uncle was asked to move from his care home at exceptionally short notice. They were calm and sorted all the necessary medical assessments and paperwork with minimum fuss. They dealt with his former care home with professionalism and
courtesy. Guiding me through a difficult process as I live 200 miles away from my uncle. They arranged the transfer and settled him into a beautiful room with all the necessary equipment and fully trained staff to support his care. I could not have asked for more. Thank you all so very much.

After a previous bad experience it was such a relief to find my wife a placement at Chestnut Lodge where she is now settling in nicely. The home itself is modern bright and airy with a calm and relaxed atmosphere. Since my wife went to Chestnut Lodge she has put back on the weight that she lost previously
and looks like her old self again. The staff are well trained and caring towards the residents and the home itself is well managed and well-run. Chestnut Lodge and all the staff there get top marks from me. Thank you.
