Our cared for person is mostly in bed now but Staff are as attentive as ever and have a good knowledge of his needs and what he s eaten. They pop in to chat to him, put his favourite t.v. chanel on and even get the therapist to do an activity with him. They ve involved me in making his care plan with
the Dr. I feel he s had the best care possible under the circumstances and we can visit whenevever we want to. Highly recommend Peel Moat. Its given me peace of mind. Thanks to the lovely staff.

Hilltop Court Care Home

from G R (Stepdaughter of Resident) published on 18 August 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

Had a lovely visit when I visited my Stepfather. He's now bedridden and I have found most of the Care & Nursing Staff very kind and caring as I know that the men's unit isn't always an easy unit to work in. My Stepdad hadn't had a shave when I visited and hasn't had his hair cut for a while. It would
be lovely to see staff engage more with the residents as most of them are either asleep or just wandering around the unit. There are books available that staff could look at with them or there are games etc but this doesn't seem to be encouraged unless there's an activity co-ordinator on the unit. I see other Harbour Healthcare homes on their website who have regular activities and outings. So if these homes can do this why can't Hilltop Court?
This home needs to be Manager led & they need to make their selves known around the home instead of just being in the office.
A sign needed in reception to remind all visitors they need to sign in/out. This is a legal requirement.

Reply from Joanne Wilson, Regional Manager at Hilltop Court Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. I can inform you that we have recently recruited a Manager who will be starting at the home within the next few months. There is a Peripatetic Manager in place at present who has been actively out of the communities encouraging staff to participate in activities which will continue. We have now an activity coordinator in place who will help to encourage more person centered activities. There are improvements being made daily. We are currently working with one of our other homes to source a hairdresser and hope that this will be in place very soon. We will monitor all actions required from your feedback to ensure improvements continue.

Visited mum on Autumn Berry, Mum is settled and always looks well: mum loves the food, her room is always clean which is brilliant as I am really fussy. The whole place is very welcoming, clean and knowledgeable. I'm happy so far, just wish there was more to do during the day as mum is very active still.

I always look forward to coming and wish I could stop longer. Staff are always helpful and caring with the residents. They (the staff) are friendly and nothing is too much trouble, they have a connection with the residents that's built on trust, you can see this while visiting, the staff try their best
and no one can ask for anything more.

My husband went to live in the home in April 2025. I have found the staff and management to be helpful and reassuring while my husband settled in.
I have observed that the staff are very kind and caring to the residents and treat them as individuals and with respect.
My husband does not have a big
appetite, but the food has been excellent and varied and everyone is catered for,.

My sister is well cared for in Woodlands. Although her Alzheimer's has progressed, every effort is made by carers to satisfy her needs.
If I have criticism it is that sometimes there doesn't seem enough staff to facilitate all needs. Activities are good but again it seems some residents need more
to occupy them.
Overall I'm happy with the care my sister receives

Reply from Vicky Hutchinson, registered manager at Woodlands Care Home

Thank you for your kind review. As a management team we do review staffing levels on a weekly basis along with the regional manager to ensure that we always have the correct staffing levels. The activity team do resident surveys to ensure that the activity is the choice of each resident.

from Robert C (Husband of Resident) published on 23 July 2025

Whilst I understand that the residents can at time be challanging. The overall experience is good. The staff seem to care about the residents, but there have been some issues with laundry and the cleanliness of her room. I do understand she can be quite difficult at times but I dont want to visit and
spend quality time cleaning & tidying her room. I have passed these issues with the senior in charge and they take on board my concerns and make every effort to keep on top of things.
As with all things there is room for improvment.
But I do understand the difficulty the staff face daily.
And my wife seems settled.

My mother has been well cared for in her time at Woodlands. Staff have listened to any concerns my brother may have had about mums health and wellbeing.
I particularly love to see mum get involved in enrichment activities even though her dementia is advanced. All in all a good decision to move her
to the home. Staff are generally very good.

I cannot praise the staff and facilities at Woodlands enough. From my very first contact with one of the staff through to moving my dad into his room, she was lovely and explained everything I need to know. All the staff I have met are so friendly and always willing to help. The building is lovely,

My wife has been a resident at Bright Meadows Care Home for 21 months. The home is always spotlessly clean and well maintained. Her care is exceptional by dedicated carers. Every member of management, carers, nursing etc. are very friendly and thoughtful. I'd like to mention the area manager, I asked
for a special request and he delivered within the week. My wife and myself benefitted from this show of kindness. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Bright Meadows for your loved ones.

This was my first visit to see my aunt, who has recently moved to the home. When I arrived, the gentleman (admin) at the door was warm and polite, and safety welcomed us in. I was happy to see that my aunt was comfortable, clean, and content, sitting in the living room, cuddling a baby doll (very cute).
Overall, I was impressed with the environment, the staff, and the quality of care. Thank you sincerely for all you do.

Woodlands has such a lovely atmosphere as a care home. Every member of staff I have encountered on my many visits have been friendly, extremely caring and professional, they really got to know my father and treated him with dignity and respect. The home is spotless and my father's clothes were always
clean and ironed. He enjoyed his food a great deal and polished off every meal, even on his last day. I was so pleased that I chose Woodlands for the care of my dear Dad in his final years.

From my initial visit to look around Woodlands, I immediately felt this was the best place for my mum (I even got a personal recommendation as I was leaving from the son of a resident!!)
My mum has settled in well.
Despite it being an emotional time for the family, we are glad with the choice we
made. Can not fault anybody/anything.

Sadly, my wife's dementia became too much for me to care for her anymore, and she moved into Woodlands Care Home in Westhoughton just before Christmas. She settled in very quickly and is very happy and content. The staff are extremely attentive and caring and seem to enjoy their work. The layout of
the unit is bright and colourful. There are regular activities arranged by the staff as well as a large garden outside as part of the care home, where residents can be taken to enjoy further activities. Her bedroom is light and airy with an ensuite shower and toilet, and she is checked every two hours at night as well as there being a detector mat in if she gets out of bed at night, which can elicit an immediate response from the staff. I can not think of anything that would make it better, and this gives me peace of mind, and I am able to visit her every day.

Reply from Vicky Hutchinson, registered manager at Woodlands Care Home

Thank you for your kind review. I am so glad your wife settled in so quickly. We love having you both as part of our Woodlands family.
