My husband of 60 years has spent the last 4 years suffering from dementia and several physical conditions. His life has been appalling because of the lack of care made available to him and I have looked after him myself. Suffice to say that I have made 4 complaints to the council, one of which was sent to the ombudsman and found that they had been totally negligent. I had never heard of Fernwood until it was recommended to me because of their ability to address complex conditions. Against social services wishes he has gained a placement there. This is the happiest time he has had, because every member of staff is so caring, knowledgable, and professional. Not only that; from the top management down to staff with lesser duties there is an absolute kindness from everyone, not just to their resident but also their families. My husband was very wary of a Care home place; I told him he could go home and I will take the place! We have both received outstanding care.

Our son was at Fernwood for many many months, He passed away February 2026. Whilst at Fernwood he received such wonderful care and it was his home his adopted Fernwood family he used to say. The staff were so caring, friendly and committed to their work. He was recovering so well until unfortunately he took a turn for the worse over just a few days. He would have wanted me to inform as many as possible how wonderful Fernwood is and I am doing so for him. Fernwood should be recognised for the loving caring home it is. Excellent, wonderful and compassionate.

No matter what day or time I visit the home is absolutely spotless throughout, including the residents bedrooms

We find Edgewater is kept clean and tidy. Staff are approachable if you have any concern and helpful.

My husband has been in this care home for over 4 years and in all that time he has been treated with respect and dignity. He is now non-verbal but the staff understand his needs and treat him accordingly. His room is good although it does need a deep clean atm. All in all I am happy with the care he receives and don't worry about him at all.

My mum moved into Kavanagh Place before Christimas and everything was made so easy to get her settled in by the staff. She was included in all the activities from day one, which was brilliant and she loved it. The whole family are very pleased mum is here.

The unit that I am residing which is tulip is run very well and the senior is very well organized and I have no worries when she is on shift. I have been here for 1 year and it has been a mostly positive experience

Mark, my brother, has been very poorly and was in hospital for weeks.we as a family we're asked to attend the hospital to say our last goodbyes on a few occasions.i requested that he go back to Edgewater as I knew he would get back to as healthy as he could be.the manager and staff have worked miracles with mark he was on a syringe driver when he got took back to the home and wasn't weight bearing or eating much they worked with mark and they have been amazing Mark is now up and about on his own walks with a frame.he is now back to going out to play pool bowling and is in good spirit everytime we visit.Mo one of the staff arrange for mark to visit our mum she is now in a care home.it made all the difference to Mark and mum to see each other these acts we cant thank them enough.mark would not be here today if it wasn't for the manager accepting him back and the staff determination thank you all Tracey x

Mum is very settled at Brook View. I see how much she is well cared for - which is very reassuring for me.

Upon arrival the place was immaculately clean and fresh smelling, my Aunty was bathed, dressed, and looking a lot better than the other care homes had her - smelling of urine, faeces, and big scabs everywhere. My Aunty is well looked after here. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

My sister is being nursed at Kavanagh for around 2 years. Not many people could care for her due to not understanding the condition. Kavanagh nursing staff have cared for my sister so well. Staff help me maintain a relationship with my sister and also get me involved in activities. I am always made to feel welcome. They are the best people in the world.

It has been wonderful to see how settled my brother is. He is like a different person compared to when he first came to the unit. I am so happy with the care he receiving and the extra activities that he is involved in. His quality of life has improved dramatically. Thank you to all the staff for all you do, angels you are. When visiting my friend, I am always greeted with smiling faces from staff. It is always clean and tidy and I feel very comfortable visiting.

My husband was in Fernwood for respite last two weeks in March. He has a severe brain injury and mobility problems. He was treated with exceptional care. I cannot praise the staff so much. From the cleaners, physio, nurses. All so lovely he was given the absolute best of care. Will definitely use Fernwood again I highly recommend this care home.
