Walstead Place Care Home

My oldest (in both senses of the word) friend spent three weeks at Walstead Place. He was there for respite care. From the beginning, the process gave me plenty of confidence that this was going to be a great choice. Although our initial enquiry was probably a few months too early, Walstead said they
would be in touch every few weeks and then confirm his booking, a couple of months in advance. They did exactly what they said they would do.
The staff really made my friend feel welcome and every time I saw him he was full of praise for them. He was well looked after. He was a bit under the weather on arrival and looked so much better by the time he left. The staff made time to have a chat and a joke and never made either of us feel like they were too busy to talk or help. The facilities and location are lovely. The dining room seemed buzzy and he reported that the food was good (and he is a fussy fellow) It looked good to me too. He wants to go back next time he needs respite care.

My friend was very well looked after by the marvelous staff here.
The room is bright and airy with a lovely view where my friend could see the comings and goings. He came out having put on a small amount of weight which is excellent as he's underweight. He ate quite well but is a very fussy eater
and has a tiny appetite so the staff managed with very well to eat more. Thanks.

We chose Kings Lodge out of several others. It is clean and modern. My wife became long term resident in December 2024.
She was really well cared for right up until her recent death. Without exception the care staff are lovely and they all genuinely took such care of my wife. They showed genuine care
for her. They are such a good team and they showed such respect for my wife. She chose not to take be involved in all of the activities but there are many opportunities if wanted.
Thank you team for looking after my wife's last few months with such dignity.

My wife has been a resident at Kings Lodge since mid June 2025. Placing a loved one in a nursing home is an incredibly difficult life changing event. Anxiety in finding the right place is very high, often at a time when there is little advice and help available.
On my first visit to Kings Lodge with
my Daughter we were impressed and grateful for the kindness and understanding of those who greeted us. Kings Lodge is a nursing home that places equal importance on family and the resident who needs specialist nursing care. My wife is being looked after in a totally professional way with respect, love and when appropriate humour. She is very happy. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff in all their various roles. They are all part of a team making every endeavour to help and nurture those in their care. If things need doing families are encouraged to bring them to the attention of the staff. The reaction is always positive even at times when they are busy. We are most grateful.

My mother has stayed at kings lodge 3 times now.
She loves it there and it gives us great peace of mind that she is well looked after whilst we take a holiday.
So she stayed for 4 weeks .
She took part in numerous different activitys whilst there.
She was taken on a trip to visit a local school
and intereact with the children she enjoyed this so much.
My son and his 3 sons visited and were made very welcome.
What makes kings lodge special is the staff remain pretty much the same from year to year and remember mum and she remembers them it makes her feel at home.
The manager has been extremly helpful to me as organizing care for respite is not easy she has helped me by being clear in what they are able to offer mum and i can go away knowing she is in good hands which mean a lot to me and my husband as we only take 1 holiday a year.
Mum is looking forward to her next visit which will be a party that we have been invited too in August.

My mother was moved here from her previous care home in February 2022. From day one, the staff at Kings Lodge have not only met her needs, but continually and consistently gone above and beyond in caring for her. It is clear the care team are here because they love what they do.
This is not only
evident in the way they interact with my mum, but with the other residents as well. Whether a resident is easy going or challenging, the team is always kind, cheerful, attentive, encouraging, patient and supportive.
The staff readily adapt to mum's needs as they evolve, ensuring not only are the basics met, but continually strive to engage, stimulate, and include her in activities as is possible.
I had no choice in where my mum was to be transferred the eve before Jubilee celebrations, but could not be more fortunate that she landed at Kings Lodge! I live in NYC, so though not able to visit as often as I'd like, I am fully at ease knowing my mum could not be in better hands.

My relative has been part of the family at Rectory House for over 3 years now. She arrived during the time of COVID restrictions so it was hard to get a real insight into the care provided during that time. However, it has been so good to see the care for my aunt improve during her time there as restrictions
were lifted. She is always happy and contented whenever I visit and I love the open door visiting policy now so I can turn up at anytime (and I do). I am often there for meal times which are good and served really nicely. Activities have grown and cover a really good range too.

My husband is extremely happy here and very relaxed. The staff are amazing not only in the standard of care they give - which is excellent, but in the kindness they give too. The atmosphere in the home is happy. The staff know all their residents very well and share fun and laughter with them as well
as empathy. It is not easy to leave a relative in the care of others but the minute I visited here, I knew it would be exactly right. My son and I feel like part of a big happy family here. Thank you!

My Nursing Home search for FIL started in Spring 2024. After research, the family decided on Kings Lodge. He moved in June 2024. He has complex nursing needs and poor mobility. Although a few niggles arose - overall the care he has received in the past 6 months has been excellent. Every member of staff
is polite, friendly and helpful. The activities team are amazing, the Christmas Panto was brilliant. There are regular themed events. They organise Chess for him. His mobility has deteriorated - KL worked hard with him to slow this down. He likes the food. It has a room for private family events. His care team is exceptional, one in particular. I'm informed of changes and concerns, but he is as independent as he wants. Another staff member in particular was a great help in settling him in and supporting us as a family. The maintenance team have been a great help. As a family, we are delighted with the standard of care he receives. It gives us all complete peace of mind, which is priceless.
