Hayward Care Centre

from Philip M (Son of Resident) published on 2 January 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5
My mother was admitted to the care home in December 2023 after loosing my father. Her dementia made it impossible to live at her own home any longer. I knew the inevitable would happen one day but hoped she would at least find some respite which sadly has not been the case. The organisation offer dementia
care but have not followed good practice in the area at all. She passed away on December 9th 2025 being admitted to hospital with dehydration and a chest infection. Prior to this she had been pushed over and broken her hip with the hospitalisation required. And she had another fall in the interim time. Falls and chest infections are high risk in dementia patients and good practice is to avoid them happening. Any contact from the organisation was to blame her in all cases but in reality she was a nurse and in her mind she was still helping people around her. Instead of a peaceful end of life this care home has hastened and added to her and her families suffering.
Reply from Steve Gardner-Collins, On behalf of the team at Hayward Care CentreThank you for taking the time to share your concerns about the care of your late mother. I would like to begin by offering our heartfelt condolences to you and your family on your loss. We recognise how deeply painful this period has been and appreciate how difficult it can be to revisit these experiences. Your mother came into our care in December 2023. We understand that this was a significant and emotional transition for her and for your family. Our team endeavoured to support her needs during what were challenging circumstances, and we are truly sorry that her experience did not meet your expectations. We acknowledge your concerns, people living with dementia are sadly at increased risk of falls and medical complications, even when preventative measures are in place. We are very sorry if any communication from our organisation felt insensitive or appeared to place responsibility on your mother. This was never our intention. We recognise and respect her background as a nurse and her natural wish to help others, which were clearly important aspects of who she was. Our staff strive to provide care that upholds dignity, compassion, and respect at all times. While we do not believe that our actions contributed to hastening your mother’s decline, we do take your feedback seriously. Your comments have been shared with the management team and will inform our ongoing review of practices to ensure we continue to deliver the highest possible standards of dementia care. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further, you may raise a formal complaint via our website, where our Feedback and Complaints Policy is also available. You can also contact our Feedback and Complaints Manager on 0330 460 1707 or via email at complaints@osjct.co.uk. Once again, please accept our sincere condolences, and thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

In my view, Bemerton Lodge is a very special place. My father is well cared for and has formed strong relationships with the carers at the home. He is encouraged to participate in varied activities and the home goes out of its way to ensure that his interests are catered for. The home is always well
staffed and clean when I visit and Dad seems happy.

Very friendly and caring staff. Always kept informed about how Mum is doing. Proactive when she has needed to see a doctor. The staff have helped her recover from a very dark place, where we weren't sure she would return from.

By August 2025 Mums condition was becoming too much, even with the help of a carer. It was taking its toll on all of us, and the decision was made to research a care home. My brother and me visited several homes in the area, and all were very nice. Wellford Gardens felt right. A lady came out from Wellford
Gardens to assess Mum. She was charming and reassuring, and I knew better times were ahead. Four months on Wellford Gardens was the best choice we made. All our lives are better for it.

I attended a 100th birthday today as a friend of the family, and I wanted to share how impressed I was with the celebration. The effort the staff put into making the day special - not just for the resident but for all the residents - was truly wonderful. The entertainment was excellent. The singer was

The Meadows

from S H (Sister of Resident) published on 23 December 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
The care home staff work extremely hard to keep my sister happy. My impression is that the carers and nurses are often under a lot of pressure. Perhaps additional carers and nurses would relieve some of the pressure and allow more precious one to one time with residents. The receptionist goes above
and beyond and has helped many, many times. When she is on holiday we all notice the gap she leaves. Access via the front door is much harder at weekends and the evening because she is not there. The manager is always very helpful, polite and has high levels of empathy with the residents. He sets a good example and always does his best. The activities staff are very energised and work hard to keep residents entertained. It would be good if weekend activities could be increased. The deputy manager and registrar is very helpful and knowledgeable. She is a very good role model. Thank you for all that you do everyone.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsThank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback. We are delighted to hear that you feel our team is providing such a positive experience for your sister. Your kind words about our carers, nurses, reception staff, management, and activities team are greatly appreciated, and we will be sure to pass them on.
We also value your suggestions regarding additional staff and weekend activities. Feedback like yours helps us to continually improve the care and support we provide to all our residents.
Thank you once again for your thoughtful comments and for recognising the hard work and dedication of our team.

The staff is well trained and professional. Mum is happy and always well kept. They go beyond their duty to ensure mums is safe and when ever we visit which is very oftern, mum is happy well kept doing activities, cleaned and looking very well kept. The staff are extremely friendly and management is
superb. We cannot express how happy we are with the care home, simply professional, kind, and they go beyond to ensure mum is safe, we are kept updated of all that is happening. A big thank you to the staff and management for running the care home so professionally with compassion and skill.

My Mum has been there for a couple of years. The thing I like the most on Poppy house hold is the staff they are warm, friendly and approachable. This includes all supporting housekeeping staff.
Always greet my mum by her name when we go for a walk around.
Manager has an open door policy and you
can discuss anything with him. He involves himself in the activities.
They have just had a refurb and the places look lovely, However the bedrooms could do with the same TLC.
There are a good variety of activities in the heart of the home, pictures shared. But never see evidence of the activities being taken to those unable to leave their rooms.
They have an amazing size garden which has had work and time spent on it. Does lack a few visual and sensory areas,
Whether its a care home or any environment there is always room for improvement. The Meadows is striving for this with the support of management, staff and residents families and I feel are on the right path.
Very happy with the Meadows.
Reply from Helen Dearing, On behalf of the team at The MeadowsThank you so much for your lovely, detailed review - we are so grateful for the feedback. In November, I was notified by Meadows' staff that my aunt by marriage and for whom I have POA, was unwell. The staff sought medical assistance and out of hours support attended. Her situation was assessed, I was notified and also attended. Fortunately my aunt recovered. The staff at The Meadows were
wonderful and acted swiftly and appropriately, in line with my wishes.

We were impressed from day one. The staff are really careing and friendly. My mother is really happy in the home and has no complaints what so ever. The food is excellent and plentiful. The home is really clean and taken care of. We have been made very welcome and are impressed at the entertainment
that is put on for the residents.

Mum has been at Spencer Court for a year now and the amount of time, effort and care the staff have put in to making sure she is settled and happy is amazing. I have never been met by anything other than a smile by all the staff. Mum is happy, very well cared for and enjoys the outings that are arranged.

A first class nursing home. Good staff, well-motivated by a caring team. I sense morale of staff and residents are both high. A welcoming, warm home where you are treated with respect and kindness. Residents always come first. I have visited 4 times, and on each occasion it was a second to none experience.
Well done to all.
