Aden Court Care Home

from D M (Daughter of Resident) published on 30 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum spent the final year of her life at Aden Court and we will always be grateful for the kindness and compassion she received. Every member of staff - from carers to kitchen and domestic teams - treated her with dignity, patience, and warmth.

We'd especially like to thank a particular staff member

for the biscuits, two members of staff for the banter and laughs, and another particular lady for the care and attention she gave Mum - especially doing her nails, which always made her feel that little bit special.

In her final days, the care was gentle and respectful, and we felt truly supported. Knowing she was surrounded by such kind, capable hands brought us great comfort.

Thank you for everything you did for Mum, and for us as a family.

Staff are lovely and do their best but so short staffed.
Residents as a result of this are left unsupervised.
Poor cleaning standards, especially on a weekend.
Resident's personal hygiene/care is sporadic.
Not aesthetically pleasing. Little stimulation for residents.

Reply from Christopher Hogan-Hind, Manager at Willowdene Care Home

We are really pleased to read that you think our staff are lovely and to recognise their hard work is greatly appreciated. Beechwood Nursing Home

from Alan N (Son of Resident) published on 16 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I recently visited Beechwood to see my Father. After my cousin had contacted me about my father's situation.
I found the staff very supportive not only to my Father, but also to myself, while visiting.
Having lived in New Zealand since 2001, I had only seen my father twice when he visited New Zealand
in 2012 & 2013.. I feared the worst when my cousin informed me that dad was now resident in a care home.
However to see him at ease, and enjoying the occasional singalong with the staff, reassured me that he is being well looked after. I wish to thank all of the staff for their care and attention to Dad..
If possible I would like to know the full names of one staff member in particular, and the lady that comforted me as I left my last visit, If it is possible I'd like to be able to thank them in writing personally..

Reply from Dawn McIntosh, Manager at Beechwood Nursing Home

Not being cleaned, hair matted and filthy. When I have enquired apparently lots of agency staff this is still not acceptable. My mother's teeth went missing and all care staff could do when we asked was to shrug shoulders. My mother is not being treated with dignity. Yes I have complained and will continue
to.

We are disappointed to hear that your experience at our care home hasnt been the positive one we would like it to be, and would like to reassure you that we take all complaints seriously. Treating people with dignity and looking after the health, hygiene and wellbeing of those residing in the home is of paramount importance to us and we take pride in all aspects of the care we provide. Alderwood Care Home

from O H (Daughter of Resident) published on 10 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My Mum has recently moved into Alderwood. She has mental & physical health needs. She's been struggling living by herself for over a year and arrived at Alderwood in a bad way. In just a short space of time and being properly looked after we are amazed how well she now seems. She's genuinely happy &
settled. My Mum has clicked well with the staff and feels at ease with them. She trusts them and allows them to look after her. It's a casual atmosphere around the place which is great. The staff are all extremely friendly & helpful. Everyone is on the ball and communication is spot on. It's just what my Mum was needing. She's enjoying the environment, the staff, the food and having her hair done. We were worried about Mum going into a care home and the implications. Turns out Mum has embraced it as a positive move, enjoying the perks and treats it like an all inclusive holiday. Many thanks to Alderwood and staff. We are thankful.

My uncle was placed in Beechwood when discharged from hospital after a bad fall. He is 95 years old and it became clear he could not look after himself at home.
My uncle was very poorly when he first arrived at the home but since that time has improved greatly. I cannot praise the staff highly enough

Bannatyne Lodge Care Home

from Andrew L (Son of Resident) published on 2 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My 90yr old father had a fall at home and was badly shaken. Respite care was suggested and as he lived in Peterlee and the home was next to his doctors we contacted Bannatyne Lodge. Best call we ever made. From the moment we initially rang to enquire, to the reception of my father, to the time we left
we were treated with complete professionalism that could not be faulted. My father ended up staying just over three weeks and he really enjoyed his time there. The food was top quality and plentiful. The staff from the manager down to the cleaners were a great friendly bunch of people. Many had been there 10+ years and a couple over 20+ years, which spoke volumes about the home as an employer. The activities were gentle but fun with encouragement to join in, my father enjoyed the bingo, dominos and even the wine tasting! Over the three weeks he regained his strength, at all times he was encouraged by the staff. He is now home but knows where to go if he wants a weeks R&R. 5* treatment.
