My Mum has been in this care home since February 2025. From the first meeting with the manager we made the easy decision to request a place in the home. We met several of the staff and was shown around. The whole feel of the home was very warm and welcoming. My Mum is very happy here. She is blind, almost deaf and frail and all the staff engage with Mum. The care and support provided by the nursing team and the carers is excellent. The home has many activities, Mum does enjoy a quiz and chair exercises to popular music. The food is freshly cooked onsite and always delicious, the catering staff are excellent. There are always choices on the menu catering for all needs. I cannot speak highly enough about this home, the nursing team, carers and management are always visible and available and happy to help. It makes me feel at ease knowing that Mum is safe, well cared for, and in the best care home. Thank you.

My mother was placed into Monread Care Home in December after being in and out of hospital twice. She has Primary Progressive Aphasia which means she cannot communicate and now her mobility has deteriorated.

The staff have created cards to help my mum communicate and all of the staff are extremely kind and patient with Mum. The restaurant provides lovely food and the care home has a lovely, homely feel to it. We see the same staff which is reassuring with patients with dementia.

Everyone at Monread are fantastic with my Nan. The manager always goes above and beyond to keep my mum informed of everything with my Nan, they also make my mum so welcome and makes her feel part of the residents too. Mum was taken to hospital in May for a broken hip. She stayed in hospital for 10 days. When mum came back she was and still is cared for very well by all the staff! Mum has even taken a few steps and walked. Mum is eating well and drinking well. We are very happy with her care home and the staff.

Mum has been a resident for 4 years now and eight weeks ago slipped and broke her hip. We as a family are so grateful to staff who have always been caring and attentive and to management who's door is always open to us. After a spell in bed she is now up and in a wheelchair with the help of everyone working as a team.

Absolutely fabulous care home. Staff could not be more caring with amazing management !! The care my aunt has received has been beyond anything I could have hoped for. The feel of this place is just lovely and all the staff seem to genuinely want to work here. I would happily live here if I needed a care home.

My mother has been at Monread for over a year now and despite having some demanding needs, Monread have ensured that her needs are met, above and beyond. The clinical leads, the carers, cooks, cleaners, the lifestyle team, the maintenance team and the admin work tirelessly together to provide an excellent, safe, comfortable and stimulating environment for the residents and I am so grateful for this. If ever I have questions or concerns, Lisa the care home manager always makes herself available to talk, listen and understand and she explains things to me in a way I can interpret and she is very keen to take and act on constructive feedback. This gives me confidence that we are doing the best we can do for Mum under very difficult circumstances. Thank you Monread, keep up the excellent work!

Review of Monread Lodge Nursing & Residential Home from Mike H (Son of Resident) published on 18 October 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

Mum has been at Monread Lodge for more than three years now, including during the pandemic, and enjoyed every moment. The staff are wonderful: caring and smiley and above all, patient! Mum loves the food. The schedule of activities is inspired: I always enjoy reading the weekly newsletter with its photographs of residents enjoying musical recitals, singalongs, 'armchair travel', arts and crafts, the 'Friday Film', baking, bingo, even visits from animals, such as the newly-hatched ducks, which were a real hit. The management works hard to engage with families, though communications could occasionally improve. Mum has no critical medical needs, so I can't judge clinical care. All in all, Monread Lodge is a 'home from home'. Mum is very happy there. All credit to the staff.

First impressions on visiting to review for a bed for my aunt were, "We knew it was going to be an amazing place for anyone to live." We visited 4 others but knew on walking around the feel of the environment, felt welcome, staff couldn't do enough for the residents, no lingering smells, light and airy. In a week my aunt has regained her confidence in walking, likes her surroundings, is happy and settling well with supportive staff members.

In my own experience, my mother now needed to be looked after as her mobility and well-being needed full-time care.
Staff are amazing, friendly and caring in what they do.

My mum was moved in for respite at the end of March for 3 weeks. She tells me she enjoyed the food and the staff were nice and friendly. I visited her every week for around an hour. Monread were informative with the newsletters via email. She enjoyed the baby ducklings and watching them hatch and told me that they were now at a farm. As regards to entertainment, Mum tells me nothing much happened. I was there one day and bingo was being done and she said the music was good when a guy came in to sing. I would say looking at my mum on my visits to her, lots of the residents seemed to be less active and not as with it as my mum. I noticed my mum's mobility seemed to have improved, with her frame though it's a question as to will it be noticeable once realised for home. I do feel my mum needs more stimulation and maybe 3 weeks for her was a tad too long.

My mother has been a resident at Monread Lodge since Feb 2023, after admittance to hospital and losing the ability to walk. The care at Monread Lodge has been exemplary. My mother has severe clinical issues, numerous hospital appointments, and operations and the nursing care is outstanding. Each nurse has been very professional and knowledgeable about the nursing care she requires. The carers too are very kind, very caring and very attentive. The activity team is wonderful, so creative, Mum has enjoyed visits from a pony, wallaby, newly-hatched ducklings and regular visits from a West End Musical theatre performer, leading everyone in a musical chorus. The catering team is excellent too, my mother looks forward to her meals. The excellent management and reception staff, the house cleaners and the laundry and maintenance are all very kind and very professional, having a word with the residents and their visitors, creating a wonderful, caring, homely atmosphere.

My mother has had excellent treatment since being transferred from Assisted living in December, it took settling in time and quite a few attempts at getting her care plan correct, the carers still ask mum what she wants to eat after having lists of what she does and doesn’t eat, especially as she has severe dementia and doesn’t understand what they are asking, so she can’t really give an answer. This has been recorded so many times. But the care and attention given to Mum is very good, she is happy and comfortable and even gets out in a chair for lunch which is amazing progress and on a few occasions with carer's encouragement has fed herself. We’re very pleased with Mum's care and the standard of the nursing home care and cleanliness is excellent. The laundry service is also excellent. I would strongly recommend Monread Lodge to anyone who wants good care.

My mum was admitted to Monread in mid-July and in one week I made the decision to move her as the care in my opinion was disgraceful.
Firstly there are some nice staff but that’s as far as it goes!
Firstly the room mum was allocated smelt of urine which having refused to leave her there was soon remedied.
My mum was always left in a wheelchair when I specifically told them not to do that. Her care plan which I wrote with some specifics was not shared in a timely way, let alone shared and followed. Her diabetes was left uncontrolled without due care to seek advice from the community diabetic team. I know this because I checked. This is despite me requesting them to do this.
The reception phone was answered twice by an elderly resident who told me the nurses had gone home and they were locked in. Why on earth is this happening? Lack of showering, and cleaning dentures.
I have raised this to social services as a serious quality of care complaint.

Body map of bruises not recorded.

My sister, who had a learning disability, was placed here when she needed more care than her previous supported living home could provide. She was only at Monread Lodge for a few months before she sadly died, but in that time she was very well and kindly cared for, and they were very good at letting me know when anything happened. I think what impressed me most was the clear indications that all the staff really cared about her, and the way they really tried to make her life more interesting and stimulating, despite it being no easy task. There is a lovely easy atmosphere about the place, and other residents appear relaxed and happy. The food is very good too, and they bother with little touches like napkins and flowers on the tables in the dining room. I am so grateful that County placed her here, and have no hesitation in recommending this lovely place to anyone

Thank you so much, everyone, you are all stars!
