I cant speak highly enough of the care and kindness I've received here. The staff have been fantastic with a fabulous attitude and could not have been kinder to me.
The accomodation is brilliant, and the food has been great.

All the treatment and care has been wonderful and I'm extremely impressed with everyone for their dedication.

We were very concerned when mum came to Astor Court after hospital stay. There was no need to be concerned as the carers & staff accepted mum. Made her comfortable and welcome. She came alive and smiled as they looked after her. We are 100% convinced her last days were worry free due to the love and care she received.

From the 1st day my mother entered Astor Court the room the staff made her welcome, everything was great her care + the staff made her smile, every time I visited I was greeted like family. The whole set up at Astor Court made me feel mam was cared for right up to her passing away. The 7 days before she died I was cared for by the whole staff even at night time we saw great acts of kindness and love.

Going into Astor was very helpful, got me up on my feet and walking with the aids. I was in just over three weeks. Staff were always present and would help when asked from day one until I left, nothing was too much trouble.

Overall Experience

I was 3 weeks in the rehab section. The bell was ringing almost constant, very intrusive. It was torturous. It's not that staff weren't responding, but there were not enough of them. As I recovered I did a lot of things I shouldn't have to remove the bell wait. The food was awful. After relatively good food experiences in other hospitals it was a shock. I'm a vegetarian, & had been following a low fat diet to lower cholesterol. They are not set up for vegetarians. I tried the soup a few times & it was inedible. Veg were always overcooked. Egg & chips, once it was great, other times it was bad. Omlette & salad - first time it was great then mostly inedible. I struggled to get nutritious food so my friend brought in some meals. Meal timing meant all the meals are in an 8 hour window. My diet suffered during 3 weeks at Astor Court when I most needed nutritious food to help me heal. The carers at Astor Court are fabulous but there aren't enough. The NHS physios & OTs were excellent.

Review of Astor Court from A L (Friend of Resident) published on 9 March 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience
My friend received the best possible care at Astor Court. He was treated with respect and compassion, warmth and kindness at all times, by all members of staff, whether they were nurses, auxiliaries, managers or cleaners.
Not only was he given the best of care, but also all the staff were a huge support to his relatives and friends, particularly during the last week of his life.

I am sure that if he had been able, he would have liked to thank everyone who so caringly looked after him at Astor Court.

I have nothing but excellent praise for every member of staff that I have come into contact with, as well as the NHS staff (physios), which is why I was home following a broken hip for a total of 7 days. The very minute I arrived, and the welcome I received made me feel much better. All the staff are well trained and very professional. It has been an absolute pleasure to meet them.

Really comfortable accommodation. Lovely relaxed atmosphere.

Every single member of staff was polite, friendly and very helpful. The support from physios and OTs was excellent. The transfer home was quick and straight forward and the assistance/support put in place has been exceptionally organised and we're very grateful.

Excellent care throughout stay. All the staff were compassionate and were very supportive at a difficult time. The rooms were nice and big the only complaint would be that there was no where for visitors to sit. They were great at adapting nutritional needs. Great communication from everyone, carers, nurses and gp (who was exceptional)

First class accommodation and care. Relaxed atmosphere.
Meals could be improved, and 16:15 is far too early for evening meal!
Physio promised, but it only happened once or twice.

Overall - very grateful, impressed.

The care my dad received at Astor Court was outstanding. I have never encountered such a caring and wonderful team of people. Nothing was too much trouble. Dad was only at Astor Court for about a month at the end of his life, and I am so pleased that we found this wonderful home for Dad's final days. The staff were so supportive of my family and gave my dad exceptional care and treated him with dignity, respect and such kindness. I can never thank the staff enough.

Mum was moved here from the hospital. The staff have been amazing. Very friendly, polite, helpful and courteous. Mum has had zero complaints about her time here. The facilities are clean, always smell nice. Overall, this is a really well-managed facility, this level fo service does not happen by chance it requires good leadership. Well done all.

My father was admitted for rehabilitation following a fall & being in Hospital.
When he arrived the room was cold and initially the door couldn't be propped open.
He had a friendly welcome, but we were not given information about the need to bring extra clothing, despite seeing what clothes had been brought in and my father having a catheter.
There was an occasion where I had to phone & leave a message for the Dr (who was in the ward meeting) to urgently see my father, because his catheter was blocked & he was in pain. My father's bladder went into spasm & he ended up on tablets for this, following this incident!
The nurses and carers were efficient, kind and caring, but my father did have to speak to one of the carers and ask her to stop shouting at him.

The Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists were excellent.

Reply from Kim Richardson, Home Manager at Astor Lodge View

My sister was admitted for rehab care following a leg fracture.
The facility is unsuited to this. It was hard (sometimes impossible) for the OT/Physio to find equipment. There was no physical space to do things. The staff were exhausted and under pressure.
The care home staffing was diabolical - waits for toilets/dressing were unacceptable.
The food was very poor. No vegetarian catering at all. No nutritional value.

Individual staff members were caring and thoughtful - the facility is grossly understaffed.
