Review of Hazel End Care Home from Lindsay F (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 August 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother has dementia which is heartbreaking. It was a big decision finding a suitable care home when mum was unable to remain in her own home. I was initially shown around the home by a very friendly and welcoming lady on reception. Hazel End is a very well presented care home with very kind, attentive and compassionate carers who support and care for the residents. They are so patient and treat the residents with dignity and respect. Carers have been very welcoming to me as a family member. It is a huge relief to know that mum is safe and well cared for. The reception team are organised and very helpful. There are activities available to residents mornings and afternoons, an in house cinema, a hairdresser who is dementia trained who comes in every week and quiet areas where you can spend time with your loved one for a chat. It is incredibly hard seeing my mum deteriorate with dementia but so comforting to know she is receiving the best care possible.

Overall Experience

Since my father moved here, his health and mental wellbeing have improved so noticeably that it's hard to put into words. This home hasn't just cared for him, it's helped him get better.

The culture is one of real warmth and dignity, with truly individual care. Staff are wonderfully attentive, often noticing when he's not himself before we would, and acting straight away. They're proactive too. Referrals, registering him with medical services, appointments, are all handled without any chasing from me. After coordinating everything myself for so long, I finally have peace of mind. They also genuinely welcome feedback and action anything I raise.

The home is spotlessly clean and looks bright and new, unlike others I visited.

I'm grateful to every team member - the manager, office staff, receptionist, seniors, carers, activity coordinators, the chefs who prepare vegetarian meals for him, and cleaners. Thank you all!

The staff at Hazel End have been very good at managing & caring for my mothers complex needs.

It has at times been quite difficult for them but they are so positive, friendly and do their best to help her & provide for her needs. The accomodation is very good & food menus varied. Thank you so much for your caring + friendly atmosphere which permeates Hazel End Care Home.

My uncle needed 24hr care. We booked 4 wks but have done a further 4 weeks. I cannot say anything negative about Hazel End. My uncle does not have a bad thing to say about his stay. I know he is safe and being very well looked after. Also my uncle is quite ill & they have talked me kept me updated & have been a wonderful support to me. You walk in & the receptionist goves you a wonderful smile & all the patients there are looked after. Everyone there works so hard.

This was my husband's first experience of respite care. From my initial enquiry to the end of the stay, everything went very smoothly. It was a relief for me to know he was being so well cared for. After a fall in the night he was treated with compassion and his cut knee sorted by a district nurse visit. All-in-all a very successful visit and we would be happy to use Hazel End again.

Overall Experience
Every time I visit my Nan, I am struck by the calm atmosphere, the kindness of the staff and how clean and welcoming the home is. Layston Grove has been a wonderful place for my Nan at this stage of her life. She is genuinely well cared for, and the team work hard to make sure her personal interests are reflected in the activities on offer. It has been lovely to see the progress she has made with her mobility, which has given her back some of her independence. Most importantly, I know she is safe, happy and receiving the care she needs, while still being able to enjoy the things she loves, such as flowers, gardening and music.

I couldn't write this review without mentioning the team. Most are warm, friendly and always willing to help. Holly deserves a special mention, as she consistently goes above and beyond for us. Nothing is ever too much trouble, and her kindness, care and dedication are truly appreciated by us.

My parents stayed at Hazel End Care Home for a respite period. The home has been such a wonderful experience for them.
The carers and all the staff have been so kind and caring, making my parents feel very welcome. If my parents required respite in the future, I know they would want to stay at Hazel End again.

As a family, we would like to say a very big thank you.

I find the communication from managers to a very high standard. If any issue is found it is often resolved quickly. Carers appear to really love their work and this is reflected on how the residents react to them. My mother has been a permanent feature for some time and she has settled in nicely, with carers regularly encouraging her to participate in all the activities, of which there are many. Quietly confident when I have to leave mum, that she is in good hands.

Review of Layston Grove from C J (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 14 April 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My mother-in-law is currently at Layston Grove on long-term respite care following a bleed on the brain, we feel incredibly lucky that we found Layston Grove and that they had a place for her. The care that she is receiving is exceptional. All the staff from the management through to the carers to housekeeping are incredibly kind and take real pride in their work. My mother-in-law has a lovely light airy room, which is very well equipped and always immaculately clean. Due to the nature of her injury she needed special sensors, which were ordered and installed very quickly. She always looks happy when we visit her and keeps on telling us how incredibly lucky she feels to be there.

I cannot praise Layston Grove enough as they are so meticulous in all that they do. A very friendly atmosphere, and nothing too much trouble. We are so impressed with everything. A recent meeting of the relatives was most informative and productive. A huge thank you to all concerned, for your care to our relative.

My father was in Hazel End for just over two years and everyone involved with caring for him were amazing.
He was a wonderful man, but could also be a very tricky character, but they always treated him with great respect, dignity and humility, which would not always have been easy!
Hazel End was definitely a lovely home for him, always clean and comfortable and there were always smiles to greet you regardless of the time of day.
When my father was nearing the end, they stepped up even more and not only just coped incredibly with him, but also always had time and support for me and my family.
Moving my father into a care home was one of the toughest decisions I have ever had to make, but without a shadow of a doubt, it was absolutely the right thing to do and I have counted my blessings so many times that it was Hazel end that we got him in to.
Thank you, you were all amazing and we appreciated each and everyone of you. You are all amazing!

P.S. We do miss you!

Excellent support and advice regarding placement review with social services. The manager provided information which helped to resolve a controversial situation. Our family greatly appreciate the consideration, time and effort which we received from the staff. This has given a positive outcome to a distressing situation created by social services.

I have no issues with anything at this home. My elderly mother with dementia is well cared for in all respect. On my last visit, 17/3/26, I stayed with my mother, along with my sister, for lunch with mum. We were well catered for, food was well cooked, tasty, well presented, and even the head chef came to speak to us. The whole experience was enjoyable.

We have had two relatives/friends in the care home for the last 4 years and always found it to be well run. It is always very clean, and staff at all levels are always very polite, caring and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. It is a very well run home, and the manager knows all the residents. The senior carers are very good and always happy to discuss any queries, answer questions, and help with any needs. Communication is also key; we are always greeted well by reception staff, our only criticism is the food has not been as good of late.

Excellent care, but extremely poor funding advice

My mother was a resident at Hazel End Care Home for several months. The care she received was excellent. The carers were kind, compassionate and treated her with dignity and kindness. The facilities are very good. and the environment is welcoming and comfortable.

However, the funding advice we were given was extremely misleading. Before my mother moved in, I made repeated enquiries about whether the home accepted Local Authority funding and whether they would negotiate rates if necessary. I was assured that this would not be a problem. This proved not to be the case, and my mother ultimately had to move after only just settling in. This was very distressing - there seems to have been either a serious level of incompetence or, worse, intentional misleading on the part of Hazel End Management.

I would strongly advise families to get clear guidance from the Local Authority about funding arrangements before committing.

My mother entered the home during covid - 2020. Her care has been amazing. She is very insular, so the carers always spend time with her chatting. She is 93 now, and from being very extroverted, she is quieter. However, all the carers understand and try and encourage her. Also, I would like to point out how wonderful everyone has been with me, as I obviously am finding it very difficult!
