My mum stayed here for a short respite period spanning June and July. Absolutely outstanding experience for mum and our family.
The manager and her deputy were absolutely fantastic. Have no hesitation in placing your loved ones in Wynyard care home. They will be looked after like kings and queens.

Kirkley Lodge

from Helen L (Granddaughter of Resident) published on 9 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My nana was a resident from around July 2025 until her passing on 26/5/25.
Home: Very clean and tidy at all times, which is no easy task. My nana's room was comfortable, personalised and re-decorated several times during her tenure. The food is varied and good quality; snacks and drinks always offered.
Staff: Over 5 years, we knew every member of staff. All were attentive and caring. Nana was treated with dignity. They knew her personality, her humour, and they loved a joke with her.
Activities and engagement: Staff engage with residents all the time; frequent planned activities from bingo, crafts, baking, movie afternoons, themed parties for Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's etc. Regular visiting entertainment of vary forms.
We would have no hesitation in choosing Kirkley if either of my other grandparents need care. That should speak volumes. We thank Kirkley staff for everything they did, and the love they showed my nana.

Millbeck

from Angela A (Daughter of Resident) published on 9 July 2025

I have many experiences with Millbeck Care Home as my mother has been a resident for approximately 18 months now, and I have nothing but praise for every member of staff in the home which I find so much relief, as we have been involved with other homes and not had much luck with them. Millbeck is so
different from all the rest. On a few occasions I have spoken to cares regarding my mum's health, for example in asking if they have noticed a mark on her leg the reply I got was "I have taken a photo this morning and the nurse is coming out to see her today" what more can you ask for anyone. I am due to get my sister moved into Millbeck next week as she has Parkinson's this is the only home I know where she will be looked after like my mum is.

My wife came into Skelton Court in 2023/24 for respite. This was an excellent experience for her with first class care and excellent food and accommodation. This enables me to get some well earned rest from being a full time carer. Skelton Court became my second home because it was only 500 metres away
from my home and I could visit her at anytime. I used to have meals with her and spent hours with her.

My wife has been a resident since 3rd August 2023. At the end of May her health deteriorated and was transferred to hospital for a period of six days. My son and I were told by a consultant my wifes life was nearing the end and after consultation she returned to Skelton Court where the staff showed
their caring, loving and exceptionally understanding manner.

Home is well maintained and clean. Majority of staff are caring and polite who show genuine caring feelings for the residents. Food is well presented and varied. If there is something that they know my dad is not keen on they will find an alternative option for him. The big downside to his care is the
ridiculous amount we have to pay for his care, when somebody who is not self funded gets the same care for a far lower price being paid for by the local authority i.e £1250 s.fund - £850 LA Funded approx. This year his costs increased by 8% up from £1166 p/w to £1250!! His state pension only increased by 4% ie £10 per month.

I visit the home on an almost daily basis to visit my mother. She moved in and year ago and during that year she has received excellent care. Staff are caring, friendly and helpful. They respect residents dignity and try to consider their likes and dislikes as much as possible. I always feel reassured
that my mum is receiving the best care at Millbeck.

The care home is very secure and clean in the main area and residents' rooms. The cleaners are always busy when you visit. Meals look amazing and nutritious, always extra nibbles like cakes, crisps for residents to get if they're still hungry and regular drinks. Background music is nice, staff are amazing,
very caring and pleasant and nothing is too much for them to do.

Kirkley Lodge

from Sally B (Daughter of Resident) published on 14 May 2025

My mother was admitted a number of years ago, when Alzheimer's dementia prevented independent living. The staff engaged with her, building up relationships of trust, enabling an improvement in her diet and personal hygiene. Many of them took time to know about her, within the context of her previous
life. She was always treated with gentle care and respect.
The home was able to be flexible with Mum's sleep variation. Not a problem to provide 11am breakfast if she had wanted a lie-in or crumpets for a supper snack. I recall specifically a plate of small, tempting fruit portions to try and whet her appetite.
Recently her health declined. The staff informed me and sought the appropriate medical attention. They all worked to fulfil her wishes (and the family's) to die peacefully in the home. She was treated with dignity at all times. Her comfort was maximised. The staff also looked after me and the family, practically and with friendly consolation.

Kirkley Lodge

My mam had to reluctantly go into Kirkley Lodge Care Home as a step down from hospital, she had been living on her own for 5 years since my lovely dad passed during COVID, she has never really dealt with her deep grief, she's had limited mobility for 40 yrs then a new hip replacement in Oct24 and whilst
recovering at home she broke her upper arm in a fall in Nov24, she ended up losing so much weight and had become so frail, the minute she went into the home in Dec24 she was made to feel welcome, all the lovely staff have made the transition for us as a family so much easier and we cannot thank them enough. My mam is now back to her normal weight, she's so much happier now, my family love visiting as we can all see how well she is doing, all the staff have a lovely rapport with mam and all the other residents too. I can go home and leave mam now and know she is safe and cared for which means the world to me xx

My dad has settled nicely into Wynyard Woods Care Home. The staff are really caring and friendly. I consider them as my 2nd family, as I'm always here lol. We have all worked together, and Dad's medications are really helping him now, so his mood has lifted and he is starting to enjoy the simple things
in life, watching TV and talking to some of the residents.

Dad spent over 12 months at Skelton Court. He settled in very quickly and developed a connection with all the carers very well. He was encouraged to participate in the many activities held on a regular basis, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
He was provided with excellent care, meals and companionship
throughout his stay.
During his final few days, he was treated with the upmost care, courtesy and dignity from everyone involved.

I visit my friend on a fortnightly basis, all the staff from the managers to the care team at millbeck care home amaze me they are so friendly, helpful and very compassionate nothing is ever too much trouble, my friend has lived at millbeck for a number years now due to a deteriorating health condition,
it is such a comfort to myself to see my friend happy and healthy but more importantly very well cared for from the staff, my friend states the meals are wonderful with plenty of choices and very tasty I have to agree as I myself have stayed for meals by pre booking before visiting my friend the day before, my friends room is comfortably decorated with a spacious room and an excellent view of the garden and maintained to the highest of cleanliness, activities are very well planned and displayed throughout the care home with the staff doing some excellent fates throughout the year, I would highly recommend millbeck to my friends and family if they ever required a care home facility.

Review of

Kirkley Lodge

from A A (Next of Kin) published on 18 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5

First impressions were actually okay but there's a clique amongst staff here and if a resident is of the more challenging nature, then Staff who are part of the clique are really quite antagonistic and argumentative towards the resident. Staff not in the clique are really quite kind, caring, patient
and understanding. My relative didn't like only being allowed one bath or shower a week and felt intimidated by Staff on more than one occasion. There is a strong smell of urine at this home which I think could be eliminated with the upgrade of hard flooring and protective furnishing.

Reply from Anna Bracey, Home Manager at Kirkley Lodge

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. All feedback here at Kirkley Lodge is hugely important to us and providing the best care for our residents is our priority. Feedback regarding our staff has always been very positive and we have an all team approach to ensure the wellbeing of our residents and to support their loved ones as appropriate. All our residents are offered a minimum of two baths/showers per week unless requested otherwise by the resident. Our housekeeping team have robust rotas in place to ensure Kirkley Lodge is regularly cleaned. We take this feedback very seriously and would be keen to discuss this further to ensure we can understand and implement actions accordingly. My door is always open or please do call me anytime. Thank you again for your feedback.
