I can't thank the staff enough at the Manor Knaresborough for looking after my mum initially and then my dad. We were lucky that there was a room available for my mum who has dementia for respite whilst my dad was suddenly taken into hospital with Pneumonia. And then even more lucky that another room
was available for my dad to be reunited with my mum for a week of recovery for himself. I know for a fact that they both enjoyed their stay due to the fabulous staff and their kind and professional nature.

I came into the Manor House on Monday February 17th 2025 for 2 weeks respite (after having visited other homes) I was made very welcome from day 1 as I found the people all very friendly and welcoming and making me feel very much at home. I gradually joined the various activities being held in the home
or out in the community. Went to the theatre and for a trip on a canal boat. Once they realised I had been teacher they persuaded me to read a book on our Teddy Bears picnic day's. Its 30 years since I retired!! I am now a permanent resident here.

Thank you very much for your kind comments, we are very pleased that you have chosen to stay permanently at The Manor House and rate our Activities 5 stars. We pride ourselves on the delivery of freshly cooked, high-quality, seasonal food and cater to residents' needs and preferences. We also offer a daily alternative menu. The topic of food and drink is discussed every month during residents' meetings and my door is always open if you need to bring any details to my attention in between these meetings. Our aim is for everyone to enjoy their meals and refreshments, therefore all feedback is much appreciated. Thank you again for taking the time to write a review, I will share it with the whole team.

My mum has been a resident for about 6 months currently, due to dementia. The staff helped her settle in very quickly and she much prefers her new home to living with me. She has had some recent health troubles that have resulted in short hospital stays. The support she and the family have been given
during these has been outstanding. They monitor her wellbeing closely, step in proactively to avoid or resolve problems, and keep the family updated on any developments.
On a day to day basis, the facilities, entertainment and food are all great. The staff are always very professional, caring and accommodating while also being happy to chat to or assist residents or visitors whenever the need arises. I have yet to find anyone working there who does not appear to have been trained to a very high level, literally all the staff are great to interact with.

My mother has been resident at the Manor House for 2.5 years now.
She has always been treated with respect, her interests have been taken into account with regards to activities and she has always been well cared for by the entire range of staff.
The staff engage with family members well to ensure
that their loved ones have the best experience in what has become their new home.

Mum made Manor House her home from July 2018. Or should I say, the wonderful staff at MH made it Mum's home from the off. As a family we are indebted to all the staff at MH that have loved and cared for Mum. She was on the Chesters Dementia floor, but it was so noticeable when I took mum out for a walk
that most of the staff we saw on the ground floor on the way out would stop and say 'hello'. Lots of activities to keep residents stimulated. Kept clean and well maintained by the team and some very well fed and watered residents. Thank you all for everything you did for mum.

The Mill House

My husband was assessed by The Mill House for respite care. I was very thorough in describing his needs and they were happy to accept him. He fell 16 times in the 2 weeks he was there. There was a lack of communication between the home and myself and between one shift and the next. Remembering that
my husband has Alzheimers and needs others to help him on and off the toilet, which they were aware of, I feel he should not have been accepted there. The staff were lovely with him, but his needs were not met. On coming home, he fell on the doorstep and is now in hospital. There is no duty manager on at night.

My mother moved in to The Mill House in September 2024 and we are really sad to have to move her into a nursing home due to her being diagnosed with a rare brain condition and her needs being out of the scope of what can be managed at the home.
Her time at the home has been a happy one, she settled
quickly and made many friends and enjoyed the varied range of activities on offer . The Mill House is a beautiful home which feels more like a lovely hotel and it is a pleasure to visit and spend time in lovely surroundings. The staff have truly gone above and beyond to adapt to mums ever changing symptoms and have done their very best to help her and us navigate a difficult time. The management have been outstanding in their support with the difficulties we have faced and their door has always been open .
We are sad she is having to move on but also grateful to the Mill House for their support. A beautiful home highly recommended .

Mum has now been at Borrage for over 3 years having moved up from London. A huge and potentially risky move for her, but it meant she would be nearer to both me and my sister. We needn't have worried, as from day one, the love, respect and care given to her by all the wonderful staff has been immense.
I have no doubt that her life (she's 94) has been extended because of that.

My very elderly mother came to The Mill House for respite care, but deteriorated and died a few days after coming.
The home is beautifully presented, but more importantly, the staff were all incredibly kind and caring. Altogether a first class experience.

Dad was admitted in February 2025 due to unforeseen circumstances. It was a very trying time for dad and myself as he was adamant that he would never go into care and was quite resistant with all the staff. All the staff were absolutely brilliant with him and his moods and behaviour they deserve a medal.
Now June he has settled and has started to join in the activities, something that I never thought I would see him do. Thanks to all the staff.

My mother has been resident for nearly 2 year, in that time I have found the staff to helpful, courteous and interested in my mother's welfare. My mother continually tells me how good the food is! I am happy that my mother is settled and comfortable. When I visit there has never been anything untoward
i.e smell, or someone at the door asking to be taken home. The entertainment for the residents is varied and of interest to most and can be enjoyed by all if they want to participate.

Mum moved into Borrage House 18 months ago.

From the very first day, she settled in and called it home. I truly believe this was down to the lovely, caring staff who treated her with such kindness, respect, and compassion. Time and again, she would say how wonderful everyone was and how well she

was looked after.

The atmosphere was always calm ,relaxed and so welcoming with plenty of activities to keep residents engaged if they wished.

Mum's time at Borrage House was safe, happy, and filled with comfort - in a place she was fortunate to call home.

MY mother lived at Firth House for 6 years. She suffered from ongoing dementia during this period, the experience that both my mother and myself was always super. I got to know the manager and the staff well and often shared a cup of tea during my visits. Prior to my mother moving into Firth House was
quite insular, bordering on anti-social, but thanks to the daily activities, she became more cheerful and socialised with other residents - thank you.
