We were so pleased to see how well the respite stay went for my mum, the staff were amazing and made my mum feel so welcome. My mum responded well to all the support given, such as the help with improving my mum's mobility. All staff were just so friendly and positive.

As you will of course know that my wife has been with you at the care home now for a year. I want to thank you all for the love, kindness and reassurance you have given to her she now looks upon and calls it her home. Both myself and my wife never though this could happen after the dreadful time she
was having at home with me but within a few days she was completely calm and happy for the first time for a few months. I won't pick out any of the staff out for going the extra mile they all do. I am now reassured that as my wife walks the dreadful path of dementia your love will always be with her. Thank you all so much.

My mother stayed at Canterbusy House for about a month, receiving respite care because she was convalescing from being in hospital. The carers ensured that Mum was safe and comfortable and they treated her with warmth and dignity. Mum is very grateful for all those who looked after her, saying how hard
and lovely they all were.

Both of my parents are residing at Canterbusy House and have been for over 3 years now. Since the current management have been employed the standards have greatly increased. Both of my parents are safe, secure and well looked after. The current staff employed go above and beyond expectations. The management
and team leaders always respond to my enquiries and keep me informed constantly.

My mum has discovered a new life in The Firs; the staff are always happy, and this reflects on all the residents. The staff go out of their way to help and not forgetting the kitchen staff who always produce delicious food.

It is really nice to be able to write a good review and St Joseph's have deserved it!
My mum has been in St Joseph's since April this year and they have been so kind to her, nothing is too much trouble, patient with her while she settled in, chatting with her.
It's clean and well kept - easy visiting
- food is plentiful and varied , Doctors call if required, and we feel she is 'safe' now.
You make us very happy St Joseph's,
thank you - all of you

The care my mum has received at St Marys has been excellent. The staff are always very friendly and helpful and made the transition for mum as easy as possible. As mum's condition worsened the staff were very supportive of mum and our family.
I can't thank the staff enough for the care they provided.

I shall always be deeply grateful to the staff of Marham House Care Home as my brother's mental health and quality of life have improved beyond all recognition since he moved in (November 2022). The staff are exceptionally kind and caring. The way that the staff relate to the residents was the main factor
in our choosing Marham House, it is the key feature of the home as without kindness and caring the other things count for little. The staff have a very good understanding of my brother and he feels fully valued for who he is.The staff are very good at referring him to other professionals when needed. He enjoys the activities offered, and the pool table especially!

The Firs

from Joyce H (Wife of Resident) published on 30 June 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My husband was very fortunate to be allocated a room at the Firs 5 months ago. He was previously in another Care Home in for 4 months & I felt he was not receiving the care expected for someone with Dementia. All staff at The Firs - Management, Carers, Catering, Cleaners etc. have all been so friendly
& kind to us both also, the Management & Carers have been wonderful in supporting me through this difficult time. I am very happy to spend many hours at the Firs with my husband & now treat it as my 2nd home. It is so lovely to be able to make us refreshments in the dining room/lounge whenever we want & to be able join my husband for a meal, it's the little things like that that make my visits so much more relaxed. The social events & activities are great & varied, we also love sitting & relaxing in the lovely new Namaste Room & the gardens are beautiful.

It is a great comfort to me knowing I can go home & not worry because I am confident he is receiving excellent care.

from K G (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 23 June 2025

Unfortunately from recent personal (mum in law had a period of respite care) experiences it has to be a zero (unfortunately I cannot score any lower) out of ten from me.
Although on the face of it a negative review however, care and other ancillary staff are very much exempted from any criticism.

Reply from Jacqueline Court, Home Manager at St Joseph's

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and your comment regarding our care staff is appreciated. We are sorry that you do not feel other areas of Mum's stay were at the standard expected and we hope we can discuss this with you further to ensure any concerns are understood and rectified where possible. Our resident's well-being is of the utmost importance to us and we are committed to providing high quality care.

I have nothing but good things to say about The Firs. We are extremely happy with the quality of care that our mum receives. The staff are outstanding and the home is very clean. The food is excellent, and there are plenty of activities to keep the residents entertained. We are so happy that we chose
The Firs for Mum's care.

Devonshire House

from G U (Son of Resident) published on 11 June 2025

My mother moved in in January and has been there for five months. The staff and standard of care appears to be excellent and my mother says she is very happy with the staff and care. The home looks and smells clean and the home has a number of different rooms for residents to relax in or do activities.
Whenever I speak to my mother she always seems to have been engaged in some sort of activity so she is not bored. The gardens are lovely and when the weather is nice my mother enjoys sitting outside and there is a pleasant conservatory to sit in when the weather is less good.
My mother reports that the food is excellent and it appears that the menu has variety and the residents can offer suggestions.
The suite my mother is in is very roomy, has lovely views and good accessible shower and toilet.
the staff are always happy to take a phone to my mother wherever she is in the home when I call her, and are always polite and helpful. The combination of facilities and great staff make it.

My mother stayed for 2 weeks of respite care to allow me to go on a much-needed holiday. My mother had a lovely garden suite room with en-suite & small kitchenette area. My Mother was very appreciative of the level of care & attention she received. She enjoyed the meals & ate really well whilst she
was there. The staff were all friendly & caring. The activities were well organised & my mother enjoyed herself. She came home looking bright & healthy. And, she is eager to return in September for another holiday! The Administrator, in particular, was very kind & patient in organising my mother's stay. The home is very clean, comfortable & the gardens are beautiful. Thank you for your care & attention. Much appreciated

Staff are exceptional - friendly, nothing is too much trouble and always happy to help anytime, night or day. Mum is very well cared for and looked after and has settled in well, and is very comfortable. The home's 'social calendar' is excellent with lots of varied activities, which mum is enjoying,
and it's lovely to see her socialise. I cannot praise Canterbury Home enough at such a difficult time.

Canterbury House have cared for my Mother-in-law for 3 years, and in all this time she has been treated with respect and dignity by all of the staff. She turns 100 years young in July, and on a recent visit, we were approached by management who informed us they have booked her favourite singer for her
special day. They also arranged a meeting the the chef manager to discuss catering needs for her special day. This goes way beyond our expectations, and we couldn't thank Canterbury House for going above and beyond to make her day so special. We know she is loved and cared for, and couldn't wish for a better care home. All the staff are amazing!
