Mum moved into Horfield Lodge in March 2025.
In truth I was filled with worry about the move, for Mum and for myself.
After an 'up and down' first few weeks (for Mum and for me especially), Mum began to settle in very well. Her room is lovely and overlooks the Common. We furnished it to Mum's tastes.
The
staff are fantastic. I cannot speak highly enough of them. They have all been (and continue to be) fabulous.
Mum certainly has her favourites too.
The Lodge provides lots of entertainment. Mum is keen to join in but also happy looking out over the Common from her armchair. A chair she often sits in and completes her WordSearches.
Our family have only but high praise for the staff and Home itself. They always involve myself in anything regards Mum's care.
I feel that I can approach staff with any concern I may have.
We continue to be extremely happy with Horfield Lodge, but more importantly, Mum continues to be very happy living there. Long may it continue.
Keep up the great work !

We first arrived at the home to be shown around with a view to a relative being placed there. We were impressed with the warm atmosphere and were greeted by smiles from both staff and residents. The care was high quality & professional, the activities varied & plentiful, the room well laid out but a
little small and the food extremely good. Our relative had been lonely at home & unable to cope. After the first two weeks she was very happy to be there for her end of life care. In all, Hartciffe Nursing Home was compassionate and safe.
Reply from Sara Cryer, Home Manager at Hartcliffe Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely, and generous review. It was our pleasure to have been able to support, and care for your relative on her final journey.
A truly lovely lady. I will be sure to pass your lovely comments on to the team.

My mum recently died in hospital.
Spent her last few months living in the care home with dignity, kindness, fun and laughter. Mum had full capacity and had chosen this care home to be South of the River, where she always lived. From the moment Mum arrived to choose a room, and for us as family visiting
every member of staff were so engaging with smiles, professionalism and time. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Thank you all - you are special people.
Reply from Sara Cryer, Home Manager at Hartcliffe Nursing HomeThank you for your lovely comments, they mean a lot to us all. I am so pleased that your mum felt she was at home during her time with us.
She kept us on our toes but has left us with some wonderful memories. A lovely lady that is truly missed. I will ensure that I share your kind words with the entire team.

I went to the care home in MHA Hartcliffe, Bristol, to recover and rehabilitate after a hip replacement operation at the hospital on the 2nd of October. The care I received for the next 3 weeks was excellent. As far as I could see, the carers could not be bettered for their professionalism and friendliness.
I was most impressed with the care and attention given to all my fellow residents.
Reply from Sara Cryer, Home Manager at Hartcliffe Nursing HomeThankyou very much for your kind words, they really are appreciated. I'm pleased we were able to assist you in your recovery and enable you to return home in a timely manner. You are always very welcome to pop in for that cup of tea. I came in to visit my partners mother who is on the nursing floor , I was offered a cup of tea and a piece of Victoria sponge cake by a friendly Indian gentleman on the nursing floor and the Victoria sponge was delicious And when I left. There was a. Remembrance band in the coffee shop area. And
it was lovely to see. The residents there smiling and enjoying the music and there was a lady smiling and dancing.

The staff clearly know and care greatly for the residents and have regular events and visits to provide entertainment etc. I have occasionally found it difficult to get through on the phone at weekends but that has improved. There has been an issue with catering lately due to departures and use of agency
staff. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Overall, I know that my mum is safe, looked after and gets what she needs.

My mother (resident) has chronic progressive MS and a personality disorder (amongst other things). Looking after her is challenging; she has capacity but can often make self-destructive choices and /or be unkind to others.
I recently attended her CHC review with nurse Bernie. I have directly suffered
and struggled with my mother's care for over 40 years. The CHC review is typically stressful and difficult to navigate. I just wanted to commend Bernie for her masterful handling of the situation. She speaks authentic truth with wisdom, care and compassion. I am so grateful.

I am happy with my Fathers Care at Horfield Lodge where the majority of staff are professional, kind and caring.
Some are exceptional and go out of their way to create a homely environment.
However for £6000+ a month the FOOD provided should be of a much higher standard.
According to my Father it
is frequently undercooked/ overcooked/ bland and lacks fresh green vegetables.
Indeed I take him shopping twice a week to buy fresh food to supplement/ replace his meals. An excellent way to monitor standards would be for senior staff to eat the meals provided so they could experience the many problems.
Reply from Lesley Griffiths, Home Manager at Horfield LodgeThank you for your review and your positive comments regarding the staff at Horfield Lodge; I will pass these on to them.Your comments on the food provided are important to us and we welcome all feedback. The home aims to provide a choice of high standard, nutritious meals. Unfortunately, we have had recent staff changes in the kitchen, which has at times affected the quality of the food served. We have been working very hard to fill the vacancy, and I am pleased to report that we have recently, successfully appointed a new cook and chef manager. Whilst recruitment checks are underway, we have secured an exceptional chef to cover the role. I am aware that the food standards have already improved, and I offer my apologies that you have been dissatisfied with the food service. I am hopeful that this situation is now rectified, and improvements are already noticeable.

My sister and brother-in-law are at Horfield Lodhe and seem happy & settled.
My sister was concerned that her welcome pack was not available, and when I enquired said it was being updated. To my knowledge, she has still not got it.
I feel the garden on the rooftop does not get the same attention as
interior facilities. Such a shame.
