Starr Hills

Our dad has been a resident at Starr Hills since Oct 2024. Following a 3 month stay in hospital last year, he had lost the ability (and confidence) to walk and still hadn't made a full recovery prior to arriving at Starr Hills. In the first few weeks the improvement in our dad's health was nothing short
of a miracle. He went from strength to strength. The care and support he received from all the staff was incredible. Nothing was too much trouble. Dad loved it so much that he decided not to return to his house and to make Starr Hills his new home. That care and support has continued and now he can walk as fast as me albeit with a walker. He is happy, well and content. He takes part in the activities which he really enjoys and appreciates the friendships he has made with both carers and residents. Our family will always be eternally grateful to Starr Hills as without them we are not sure he would have fully recovered. You have all given him a new lease of life and we couldn't be happier

Our dad came to Star Hills 8 months ago after being very ill for 6 months, as well as being bed bound, depressed and having lost 23kg in weight.
Our dad has made a miraculous improvement. It didn't take him long to start walking with assistance and again not much longer to start walking on his own.
Dad soon regained his appetite and has put some wait back on.
We firmly believe that if it wasn't for the fantastic care and attention (and great food) that he has received at Star Hills, he would no longer be with us.
Dad loves what he calls his new home, and see's the management and staff as his friends.
He loves joining in with the activities and reminiscing with the other residents. He loves the garden and the summer house. He loves loves his room, the independence that he has been encouraged to have.
We have gone from being worried sick every day, to being totally relaxed in the knowledge that dad is being so well looked after and is so happy.
We couldn't praise Star Hills enough.

Mum was needing more care than my father and family could no longer give and Starr Hills welcomed Mum with the kindness and compassion needed for the next stage of her life.
My elderly Dad visits her every day, and even though there has been a distinct deterioration in her health, all the staff are
attentive and caring for her needs.
We visited a number of homes in this area, but we are grateful Starr Hills had a place for mum. We are delighted with most of the staff and more important the care she is receiving.
The social aspect and entertainment is first class and even though mum can no longer be involved, the entertainment manager goes out of her way to talk and interact with Mum.
Communication between Management, staff and residents is excellent.

My friend is a resident. All encounters with staff that I have, when visiting, are positive.
The residents have a wide range of activities and the large garden is used by all.
The chefs cater for all tastes with plenty of variety and make special days such as birthdays and Easter/Christmas full of
treats . Overall I highly recommend Starr Hills.

I couldn't have asked for more. There was a very warm welcome on admission from all the staff, including: management, hairdresser, Activities Coordinator, kitchen staff, chaplain, senior carers, carers, domestics, laundry lady, maintenance man, everyone introduced themselves. They were aware my mum
was blind, so they got close, told her where things are placed. All staff have continued to help with the settling-in process. There is a real sense of family/community and working together for the residents. Support has been offered and appreciated for myself. Thank you.

My mum sadly had to leave Pennystone Court to move to a nursing home. What sets a home aside is the support and care that it provides not just at the beginning of care but also at the end. Mum had an acute event - the amazing staff managed it extremely quickly and attentively which made a big difference.
Residents at Pennystone and their family members are truly viewed and treated as family. It's not just that all the staff genuinely care but also that they are dedicated to the work they do. It's not just a job for the folks at Pennystone - it's clearly something they are passionate about. Mum was heartbroken to leave and I have to say, so were we. We will miss the wonderful team and can only thank them for everything.

Our mum spent the last 10 months of her life residing at Starr Hills and although it was hard for her at first, she soon came to call it home. This is a testament to how warm and welcoming the staff are and the care she received was secon to none. As daughters, we were also made to feel part of the

Mum is very happy at Aughton Park; she has been there for nearly four years now. She talks highly of the staff for their kindness and the way they care for her an that nothing is too much trouble. She has a lovely room and really appreciates having her own phone and Sky TV, which make a big difference
to her daily life. The small acts of thoughtfulness mean a lot-for example, when she drops something on the floor and staff pick it up for her. We her children are always made welcome by staff when we visit.

My mother has been at Aughton Park for almost 10 years, and seems content despite her dementia. The home is well maintained and always seems comfortable. The staff are professional and seem thorough, and know the residents well. When she has needed medical care or a hospital visit, that has been dealt
with properly and the staff are good at communicating any needs she has. We typically visit unannounced and have never seen any matter of concern; the staff have done what they can to make our visits go well, even through meal-times. We're happy with the support from the staff team: they've stepped in to provide the care that we no longer could.

Aughton Park

from Sue M (Daughter of Resident) published on 20 June 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Aughton Park is a modern building with space for residents to wonder around and a secure garden area for when the weather is good.
Some of the individual residents rooms and shared areas are looking rather shabby however they are gradually being renovated.
The staff are generally very caring and
courteous; although there does seem to be a lot of agency staff at weekends some of whom are not familiar with the individual residents or daily routines.
The food seems to be reasonable and cooked on site, kept warm in a portable oven. Staff do their best to encourage/remind the residents to eat their food/drink
There is a hairdresser available who takes good care of the residents appearance.
The on-site laundry does a great job cleaning/ taking care of the residents clothes.
The senior/management staff are responsive to queries.

Reply from Louise Culshaw, Administration Manager at Aughton Park

Thank you very much for your honest and personal feedback. We try our hardest when booking agency to have the same staff booked for continuity of care for our residents and as a result we only use staff from 3 agencies and it is mainly the same staff. We try to use our bank staff primarily but at weekends this can prove to be challenging. We use the bain-marie for serving food due to the location of the dining room in relation to the kitchen. This is used to ensure we are serving food at the correct temperature. I will pass on your compliments to the hairdresser and domestic team. Thank you.

My mother has been in Aughton Park for about 18 months and is exceptionally happy and well cared for there.
I cannot praise the staff at every level highly enough. They are all patient, caring, compassionate and skilled in their work. Communication is excellent, they have always been ready to offer
sound advice to us as a family when asked, and at all times I have felt my mother has been looked after to an exceptionally high standard.
There are regular meetings for families where updates, discussions and constructive feedback are shared. As a family, we have also been able to attend events such as the Christmas and summer fayres, carol services and seasonal religious celebrations.
Activities provided for residents are excellent, always appropriate to the resident group and often involving the local community. Aughton Park always impresses as a calm, positive, warmly welcoming setting and I am delighted my mother has been lucky enough to be cared for there.

My father was scheduled to go to Aufgton Park from home but unfortunately had a fall down stairs just before he was due to go there, and after 2 weeks in hospital his mobility was limited and he was very stressed.
Aughton Park has been so good for him, and having started in a wheelchair he is now walking
without a frame or aids, thanks to the support of the staff.
The management and staff are exceptionally kind and caring from the most senior manager to the newest member of the team. There is so much patience and professionalism and he now looks far more cared for and is starting to settle and relax a little, as he knows heis safe and cared for.
There are activities during the week, and the atmosphere is gentle caring and calm.
I am so happy to have my Dad looked after in the way he deserves.

Attentive, caring and friendly staff who provide consistently high quality support for those in various stages of dementia in the specialist unit. Meals are of a high standard and, for those who struggle to eat, dedicated assistance is provided. Rooms are cosy and have an en suite wet room. The communal
areas are of a good standard and the lounge is bright and spacious. There are plenty of activities for those who wish to participate and staff ensure that everyone gets the most out of their experience. Not a cheap option but delivers a first class service. I have every confidence that Aughton Park is absolutely the best place for my mother to be. She is happy, safe and well cared for.
