Review of Norwood from G S (Daughter of Resident) published on 15 July 2026 Submitted via Website

It was a fall that led Mum to her new life in Norwood Residential Care Home where she was for six and a half years. Continuously entertained by the many activities on offer in a beautiful, peaceful setting.

The wonderful staff at Norwood always looked after Mum with such compassion, patience and respect. The care was outstanding and made Mum's final days peaceful, and we will never forget it. They also showed great kindness and consideration to our family.

Overall Experience
Our first impression of coming to Norwood was that it was like walking into a hug. It exuded warmth and friendliness to both our mother and visiting family right from the start and for the full 3 years our mother was resident in the home.
In the last few weeks of our mother's life, she was treated with such tenderness and sympathetic care that we came to think of them as angels. They also supported us amazingly through her last few weeks and for that we will be forever grateful.

Norwood is a homely care home where the residents really feel the care and the staff go above and beyond.

Review of The Martins from Oliver S (Son of Resident) published on 14 July 2026 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience
I just wanted to say how enormously & endlessly grateful I am to the staff at The Martins for all they do. What I really wanted to highlight was their support to me.
Dementia strips those with it of everything, but most obviously and affectingly of the ability to properly communicate and to understand what's happening. The impact of that on their families can be huge and can make things incredibly isolating and lonely. Others don't ever really understand - that sense of 'are they any better yet?'
Your staff understand. Your staff too talk openly and honestly about things and it is the most wonderful and needed help. Thank you.

Thank you!

Reply from Melanie McGarr, Home Manager at The Martins

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your review, it is very much appreciated, and I will ensure that it is passed on to the team. The impact that dementia has on loved ones is incredibly difficult and I am glad that you feel the staff here at The Martins are understanding, open and honest when talking to you. Your Mum is a delightful character, and we are all very fortunate to know her.

Review of Norwood from Toni S (Daughter of Resident) published on 24 June 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

As with many people l found myself needing to find a suitable care home for my elderly mum who could no longer remain in her flat. Situation was urgent. I researched numerous care homes in the area and visited a few. Whilst most were adequate they all seemed to be missing that personal touch and sincerity. On visiting Norwood l found exactly what l was looking for for mum. A welcoming home with a truly dedicated management team and 1st rate carers. All the staff helped me organise mums move. Everyone went and continues to go that 'extra mile'. Mum has settled in well and whilst it is a big change for her she appreciates the attention she receives (& the amazing food). I have no hesitation in recommending Norwood House to any new potential residents.

Review of Norwood from Nicola S (Daughter of Resident) published on 19 May 2026 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My mother went into Norwood in January of this year. She had been struggling on her own, despite some very good carers. She had become very withdrawn, refusing to get up, and refusing to eat.
The staff at Norwood have been very good with her, patiently encouraging her to eat and get up and shower. It has taken a few weeks for her to adjust to her new environment but she is so much better now and the transformation in her is wonderful.
She now enjoys talking to the other residents, playing games and has gained weight.

I am so grateful to the staff for all their help and support and would very much recommend Norwood to anyone considering residential care for their parents.

My husband received excellent care throughout the eighteen months of his stay in 2025-26. He was comfortable and well looked after by all the carers, the meals were good and he never had any complaints. Entertainments were provided every week after lunch in the comfortable lounge downstairs, which he usually attended.

My Dad has now been a resident of the home for the last 10 months and settled really well. The staff are kind, helpful and very considerate to his needs. He is now eating so much better than he was at home and enjoys the variety of meals on offer, tailored to his specific dietary needs, always being given a choice. He enjoys the variety of activities on offer and he very pleased that he is still able to take part in times of prayer and communion. The staff ensure the family are told should there be any medical issues such as falls/illness as soon as is practically possible. Any questions or concerns the family have are dealt with efficiently and as promptly as possible. The younger members of the family are always made welcome and appreciate time given to them by the staff when visiting great grandad.

This is a home where residents are valued and well looked after, where the home's Christian ethos shines strongly, and where the carers are always friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable although sometimes not large, and are at a good temperature.Catering is very good and varied, and residents are encouraged and supported to eat together. There is a good variety of activities to maintain interest. Administration appears to be efficient.

Overall Experience
My mum has been a resident since September 2025 having moved from a less suitable care home. Mum is much happier here and the staff have all been very welcoming, helpful and caring. Everyone is approachable and they all make a huge effort to help residents feel at home. We have used the electric wheelchair for walks around the park.
Mum has a great view of the park and finds the conservatory and kitchenette a real bonus, especially when she has friends visit her.
Mum enjoys the food and joins in many of the activities. Medical care is first class with medication managed and appointments made when required.

Mum was always very sociable and had a very active life before her mobility slowed her down. It feels as though we are getting our old mum back now that she has people to talk to and activities to do. We really couldn't be happier with her care.

The Martins is an excellent care home. It provides a holistic caring environment and each resident is treated as if they were in their own home.

When my Dad was taken in to care we were obviously worried as to whether this was the right decision or that he would receive the appropriate care.
On first visiting the Martins this worry turned to relief!
Everyone was so thoughtful and thorough explaining everything to us surrounding his care. We were shown his room before he moved in and the caretakers put up pictures, photos, etc to ensure he would feel at home once he arrived.
My Dad has settled in really well and I'm kept informed of any concerns, falls or changes that need to be made.
The staff are friendly and he is well looked after with freshly prepared meals.

My only slight concern is his laundry going missing even though we have labelled everything but usually if I ask this gets sorted quickly. Also, staff shortages over the summer. We would love Dad to get outside every day, even to just do a lap of the garden as he has always loved the outdoors but this is not realistically possible with staff numbers.

Review of Norwood from Graeme L (Son of Resident) published on 3 November 2025 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My Dad has been at Norwood since early August, first as a trial and now as a fully-fledged resident. The staff have been absolutely brilliant, and it's clear that care for the residents, and immediate family, is first and foremost in their minds. Great care was taken with my Dad as we moved from a trial period to discussing with my Dad the need for him to stay full time. No problem is too small, and staff always have time to talk. Although my Dad is a bit of a loner, the staff are supporting my Mum's efforts to slowly but surely integrate him into the home community. My Mum can visit Dad at any time, with joint Sunday lunches a regular fixture. I've been able to borrow an electric powered wheelchair from the home to take my Dad out into Christchurch Park. The setting is great, and my Dad loves the food. Sarah and Mario have been very helpful in discussing the more practical aspects of care, from obtaining suitable furniture to council funding of Dad's place in the future.

My Mum has been at Norwood Care Home for a few months now and the staff and facilities are absolutely amazing. Mum has made so many good friends (the Carers specifically) and the Senior Carers and Manager/Deputy Manager are so accommodating. I have felt that their doors are always open and I can chat through any worries we might encounter at any time.
The Care and willingness shown to enable my Mum to be mobile (having been fully bedbound) has been superb and a lot of time and thought has been put into making this happen.

Everything is very personal for each resident it seems.
