Epworth Grange

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Epworth Grange was Mum's home for the last three and a half years of her life until she died this year at the age of 96. She moved into the home following a fall, and although she was then already frail, the staff were wonderful in accommodating her changing needs.

Mum's room was warm and comfortable,

and kept spotlessly clean by the diligent support staff. A good choice of food was offered, along with regular cups of tea!

Great care was taken by the senior staff when administering medications. The home has close contact with a good medical practice, with an experienced and sensitive doctor frequently visiting.

Another plus for the home is the wonderful chaplaincy service provided by Fiona, and the varied social programme organised by Michaela. Adjacent to the home is a thriving Methodist church, which provides support each Sunday for any residents wanting to attend a service.

My family were very pleased with the service provided by Epworth Grange, and would strongly recommend it.

Mum went into this care home for respite for five weeks They could not have done enough for her, she has never stopped talking about her experience especially about the activity with the babies and tenor singer. I would recommend this care home and have nothing but praise for all the staff. Would definitely
use them again in the future if we can.
Reply from Julia Ronan, Home Manager at HandsworthThank you so much for your wonderful feedback. We're delighted to hear that your mum had such a positive experience during her five week respite stay. It's lovely to know how much she enjoyed the activities, especially the baby sessions and the performance from our tenor singer, which are favourites among many of our residents. Your kind words mean a great deal to our whole team. We're committed to providing a supportive and engaging environment for every person we care for, and it's heart-warming to hear we made such a difference to your mum.
We truly appreciate your recommendation, and we would be honoured to welcome her back again in the future, if the need arises.

This carehome is the standard that should be set for ALL other carehomes. It has strong and thoughtful leadership as well as staff who without exception are angels. My mother was resident for 18 months prior to her passing away. The quality of care my mother received from everyone connected to the home
was better than first class. Indeed the quality of care was not only first class but the the way the carehome facilities such as lounge, dining room, garden and bedroom as well as regular activities showed the highest quality of care was achieved. I have nothing but praise for Handsworth Carehome and thank them with all my heart for looking after my mum so well in the last 18 months of her life.
Reply from Julia Ronan, Home Manager at HandsworthThank you so much for your kind and heartfelt words. It truly means a great deal to all of us here at Handsworth to know that your mum felt cared for, valued, and comfortable during her time with us. We feel very privileged to have supported her over the past 18 months and to have shared in so many special moments together. Your appreciation will be passed on to our whole team - they will be deeply touched to know their compassion and dedication made such a positive difference. On behalf of everyone at Handsworth, thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for trusting us with your mum's care.

My sister has stayed at Handsworth three times now for residential respite and we both feel SO safe and reassured when she's there. The actual property is pretty, well maintained and welcoming. The staff are all incredible. So supportive and so loving towards my sister. They always share photos of her
and she always looks so full of joy. She loves the staff, the food, the fabulous and stimulating activities and the fact that she gets to be away from me for a while! I can enjoy my break with no concerns or worries about her. I too feel cared for and listened to by the staff. Handsworth and it's staff are an absolute treasure and we are both so grateful to have them. HUGE THANKS to everyone involved for making my sister feel so at home and allowing me to have a worry free break from my caring role. She always comes home happy and well cared for, full of stories about the lovely stay she has had xxx

My sister has been a resident in Beechville since December 2024. All the staff and carers have treated her with so much kindness, patience and loyalty. She has had help, the utmost care and understanding in what has been a very difficult part of her life and has been given lots of smiles, encouragement
, good company and friendship. I can only say how much we both will miss all the staff here who have looked after her so well and have endeavoured to find the right care for her needs.
The management team have always been cheerful, helpful and sympathetic to our needs. Telephone calls have always been answered quickly and current information given. Visiting has always been welcomed.

MHA Handsworth, in my father's words, is the very best care home. He particularly likes the food, friendly/ caring staff, lots of smiles and the homely atmosphere.
We are delighted with the whole Handsworth team, the care dad receives, super activities, GP attendance each week and the environment inside
and out makes it a true home.
We would not hesitate to recommend MHA Handsworth.
Reply from Julia Ronan, Home Manager at HandsworthThank you so much for sharing such lovely feedback. We are truly delighted to hear your father describes Handsworth as "the very best care home" - that means a great deal to us all. It's wonderful to know he enjoys the food, the friendly smiles, and the homely atmosphere we work hard to create. Your kind words about the team, the care he receives, the activities, and the support from our visiting GP are greatly appreciated and will be shared with everyone here. We are also so pleased you feel the home and gardens provide a welcoming environment - we want every resident and family to feel it really is a home. Recommendations like yours are the highest compliment we could receive, and we're so grateful for your trust and support.

My mum has been a resident since January 2023 and seems to be settled and happy at Handsworth and will often comment on how good the staff are. The only grumbles she has, occasionally, are about the food. However, she particularly enjoys the jacket potatoes which, apparently, are better than the ones
my dad used to make at home!
Reply from Julia Ronan, Home Manager at HandsworthThank you so much for your kind feedback. We're really pleased to hear that your mum feels settled and happy here at Handsworth, and it's lovely to know she speaks so highly of the staff. We'll make sure to pass those comments on to the team, as it will mean a lot to them.It gives us a different perspective having feedback from families, as you have a history and relationship that can sometimes bring out different thoughts than those your mum shares with us. We do regularly ask her about her meal preferences, but we'll continue to check in and take on board anything she raises with you as well. It's wonderful to know that the jacket potatoes are a particular favourite - what a compliment that they've even overtaken your dad's. I understand that she doesn't take part in group activities, but it's good to hear she enjoys her one-to-one sessions with our activities coordinator, as well as the outside musical entertainment we host.

My brother has been in Handsworth Care home for over 5 years now and I have always felt that he has received excellent care. There is a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the home and the staff at all levels are wonderful: caring, cheerful, helpful, very hard-working and very approachable - it is clearly
a well-run care home and it's the staff who make this home such a wonderful place.
The home itself is bright and airy and as I walked in today, there was a lovely display of photos from a residents trip, being put up on the wall ..so nice for the residents to look at and enjoy! I feel my brother is in the right place and it's perfect for him.

I looked at many dementia residential homes before choosing Beechville. Beechville is a cut above everywhere else I looked. The standard of care is excellent, all the staff from housekeepers to the manager are caring, & really helpful. They go above & beyond to care for my mum. There is a regular activity
program - something that is really important for someone living with dementia. Most importantly I know mum is in good hands with people who care. Thank you Beechville.

Right from the outset at Mum' s assessment the management team were wonderful patient and respectful and listened to Mum (even when she went off on numerous tangents. Mum's medical needs were taken into account and acted upon as were requests for certain items in her room and nothing was too much trouble.
I know Mum was safe and being cared for. Mum's room was clean bright and airy and garden space was wonderful to sit out in. All the staff were very welcoming and respectful and Mum loved the library. Lots of activities (but not Mum's thing) which was great and I could not think of a better place for Mum to get the care and attention she needed. Thank you to each and every one of you you are all lovely and I would not hesitate to recommend
