My mother lived with dementia at Willowcroft in a kind and caring environment. The staff did their best to create a feeling of home while maintaining the dignity of the residents. Mum joined in with most of the activities and enjoyed the entertainment on offer. She particularly enjoyed the visits
from the therapy dogs that visited Willowcroft. Mum was able to attend the Sunday services held at the home which was important to her. There is a choice of home cooked meals, and snacks are available during the day. A continuity of the staff helped my mother as the staff were familiar to her. Mum was given end of life care in her own room at the home, which was exemplary. My sister and I were accommodated at the home at the end of Mums life. There is a great awareness at the home that family and friends are looked after as well as its residents.

This wonderful care home as transformed my brother in law's life. The care he receives is outstanding form personal care to freshly laundered clothes. The food is just fabulous, proper home cooked meals. In fact he has put weight on. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who always have a smile on
their faces.Thank you.

Overall standard was acceptable

Listed below where I feel improvements could and should be implemented:-

Leak in Mothers Bathroom on arrival Surely a Pre Occupancy " Check List" would be useful to avert such issues and it took days to rectify said leak from the WC- created a H&S issue as large

floor areas had standing water

Biggest surprise on leaving ""NO EXIT DOCS" as a result Mother didn't get her Petty Cash returned and she left with her panic alarm under her clothing, necessitating a special trip to sort / return

Some of the food Mother struggled to cut up (she won't raise a hand and ask for help) so carers for me should be more vigilant during mealtimes and note and action those struggling

Mother much enjoyed the " Activities" and Tuesdays time with the Chaplain and her Service
Very surprised that as I assume strong link MHA to the local Methodist church that plans to get residents on Sundays there wasn't
far better organised (no transport, not enough carers to attend)

What a relief it was to find this place! Once I'd looked round, I was convinced that this was the answer to my problems! Mum is safe, cared for and fed better than I could manage. She still asks to go home, but I know she's better here and is settling well.

My wife entered Maple Leaf about 6 weeks ago following a stay at Kingsmill hospital following a fall which broke her left hip. She had eaten very little with very poor movement. Since arriving at Maple Leaf she has improved in general health very well. She is now more mobile, her eating has improved.
She looks better in herself. This is down to the care of the staff and the general ambience of the home.

Mum's been living at Willowcroft for 2 months now. Well led by the management team, the staff are supportive and show genuine kindness. Lots of activities to keep residents happy and the meal choices are good too. I know my mum is safe in their hands. Which has given the wider family much comfort. Well
done Willowcroft.

Mum has recently died after living at Willowcroft for many years, moving from the residential to the dementia side part way through. She has always been treated with care and respect. All staff work hard to make Willowcroft feel like home, and this is apparent as soon you walk through the front door
- it has such a welcoming atmosphere. Not only have staff cared for Mum, but they have supported me. They always have time to listen and provide comfort for residents and relatives. The low staff turnover has meant that staff knew Mum very well and this gave me great confidence in their care. During the time that it was clear that Mum was dying, the care Mum and I received was exceptional. We were so well looked after and felt genuinely loved. Willowcroft is purpose-built with good-sized rooms, corridors and public areas that feel bright and airy. It is very well run and staff achieve the balance of being professional but also friendly and caring. I would recommend this home very highly.

I am very happy with the care of my husband at Maple Leaf House. The staff appear and make you feel like one of the family there. They are kind and caring to the patients. Also, I am made very welcome every time I go. It is a great relief to me knowing he is taken care of, fed lovely food and kept clean
along with his room. The staff and management are all very approachable and attentive. They try to stimulate everyone with activities and entertainment. No fears about security. A great place for dementia people.

I am always delighted to visit Maple Leaf. The welcomes are always second to none. I rarely announce my visit and I am content to see my relative looking clean, well cared for and dignified. The manager's door is always open both physically and metaphorically reassuring me that any worries I have will
be listened to and acted upon.

This is a sad day for me today as we say goodbye to Willowcroft. My partner came here in May 2024 but unfortunately her complex medical needs can no longer be met by Willocroft as she now requires nursing care. However, I have to say a huge thank you to everyone at Willowcroft particularly those in
Arkwright wing and management. Their dedication, care and support throughout some very difficult and challenging situations were handled with professionalism and kindness. It is a lovely well-run home and I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who is looking to place a loved one in very capable and caring hands. Keep up the good work.

My husband has been a resident at Maple Leaf House for over three years. To him, this is home and he is happy and secure here. He recently had a week in hospital which left him stressed and unhappy. It took his carers and the staff a couple of weeks to resolve his confidence and his security but he
was soon smiling and happy here again. He loves the activities, especially the one-to-one music therapy he has been having and also the group music therapy sessions. Thank you.

Since my mum has been in care, my overall experience has been very good. The staff have been excellent with Mum's care. They always inform me with all the information that needs to be passed on. Mum is on a blended diet and all meats are well presented on the plate for Mum. I couldn't ask for a better
care home.

Dad has been a resident for the last two years. During this time, the fantastic staff have gone above and beyond to make Dad feel comfortable, happy and safe. They have worked hard to understand and be empathetic to his individual needs. He and the other residents are stimulated daily by the amazing
activities on offer, Dad loves a dance and a sing-a-long! His "seize the day" treat was wonderful! The whole team made him part of his grandson's wedding day by hosting a very special afternoon tea for family and residents! Wonderful memories!

Maple Leaf is an excellent care home because the staff are all experienced. They are dedicated and caring and treat the residents with dignity at all times. Irrespective of their titles and responsibilities they work as a team. I have been to their care home as a visitor in the past and in my opinion
Maple Leaf is better than those by a mile. The furniture and the internal doors have recently been upgraded.

My mum has been in Maple Leaf House for over 2 1/2 years now and I am very happy with the way she is taken care of by all the staff at Maple Leaf. I know she is safe and getting food and drink whenever she needs - and she loves her cuppas. The staff are so good with her, they encourage her when she
needs it, but if she doesn't want to do something then they never force her. She loves the activities and the musical therapy. I always feel happy leaving because I know my mum is happy and safe too.

Moorland House

from Sally F (Daughter of Resident) published on 10 July 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Our mum began to need more care than her assisted living flat could provide. Having looked at several and asked around, we were lucky to get a room for Mum at Moorland House. The decision to move a parent into a residential care home is not an easy one, but we were unable to cope with her increasing
needs. Mum has been there now for 6 months and we are pleased with her care. The home is responsive, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and there is a programme of activities which is good. Her room is spotlessly clean and she has a hairdressing appt each week. Her nails were even painted recently. The building may not look the smartest from the outside but don't let that deter you. There is a warm welcome inside and the friendly carers have the patience of saints.

Reply from Shirley Reece Johnson, Home Manager at Moorland House

We are so pleased that you feel you have chosen the right home for your mother, as we know how difficult the transition can be when moving from your own environment. It is good that your mum takes part in the activities at the home and now we have the collaborative communities we are also introducing and inviting the local community to join us in our programmes at the home. We do strive to make the home as welcoming as possible and the facilities we have i.e. cleaners, homemade foods, and the family-oriented atmosphere add to the ambiance of the home. We hope you and your family continue to enjoy what we have to offer and thank you for your positive comments.
