Kenbrook

from Richard G (Power of Attorney of Resident) published on 10 October 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Having had recent bad experiences of visiting my aunt in a care home in Devon, I was anxious of being in the situation as POA, when my 2nd cousin Mabel, with double dementia, could no longer look after herself and would need 24hr care.
That anxiety disappeared the minute I walked into Kenbrook Nursing
Care Home. It's a welcoming environment with plenty of room, inside and outside for the various activities they run as well as quiet areas for other times. The management and staff are friendly, knowledgeable and keen to help in any situation. Mabel, before COVID, had been a sociable outgoing person and travelled to London every other day to visit the theatre, museums and her passion, art. Mabel always took a sketch book with her and would come back with stories and tales of people she'd met along the way. I thought we'd lost that Mabel but within a few weeks of Mabel entering Kenbrook, the Mabel we knew is beginning to reappear. Well done Kenbrook

The moment you walk into Kenbrook you feel a family feel . Staff whose days can be challenging are so welcoming, kind , friendly and always engaging with families and residents. Many are on first name terms with myself and my aunt as well as others who visit relatives. They are caring , empathetic and
compassionate to the needs of the individuals they care for . We really appreciate the staff from managers to therapists , nurses , cooks and cleaners .
Reassures me my uncle is getting the best care .

I with my two sons looked at Hall Grange (having seen several others) for my wife who suffers from dementia, and we were all thoroughly impressed by it including the gardens, the Wilderness and the area adapted for those suffering from dementia. We all agreed it was the place for my wife, and she is
now there, and it has more than lived up to our expectations. It is always very clean, airy and extremely well kept with large well furnished bedrooms. The care staff are vigilant and go out of their way to care for the residents are cheerful, informed and helpful, and I visit virtually every day. It is extremely well run with attention to detail and the set up with the main sitting area adjacent to the dining areas together with alcoves with armchairs encourages the residents to mix and eat together thus providing motivation. There is a good range of activities diverse in nature. However, I do feel there may well be a slight lack of communication to individual residents as to when and what is taking place for many residents I suspect do not read the notice board.
Reply from Abi Williams, Home Manager at Hall Grange

Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience. We're delighted that Hall Grange has lived up to your expectations and that your wife is settling in well. It's wonderful to hear your appreciation for the staff, environment, and activities. We also take note of your point about communication, and we'll look at ways to ensure residents are kept more personally informed about what's happening day to day.

Excellent home in ideal surroundings. The wilderness is lovely & a real asset! All the staff seem lovely & very attentive, even if sometimes they are a bit stretched!
Music therapy is lovely - for me as well as my wife. Other activities probably happen at times when I am not present. Obviously, in
the dementia area, abilities are very limited.

My dad was recently at The Meadow for a month of respite care and was looked after very well while there. The staff were all extremely kind, patient and compassionate, both to him and to our family, and this helped make a difficult situation feel more bearable than it might otherwise have been. They
worked hard to get him involved in activities and to feel a part of the community and we also appreciated how easy it was to get in touch with them about admin or care related issues. The lovely grounds were a great asset, especially when visiting with a young child.

A relative recently moved into The Meadow - the transition was very well supported from another care home, and he has settled in well. The communication is excellent and we feel very well informed about his health and well-being. There are regular reviews and involvement from a specialist geriatrician
which was really helpful. If there are any issues that need resolving this happens very quickly. There are lots of communal activities and also individual activities e.g. music therapy that all contribute to supporting someone with dementia in a person centred way.
Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your kind feedback. We're delighted to hear that the transition to The Meadow was a positive experience and that your relative has settled in well. Our team takes great pride in maintaining clear and regular communication, and it's wonderful to know you feel well informed and supported. We are especially pleased that you value the input from our specialist geriatrician and the variety of activities we offer to promote well-being and person-centred care. Your words mean a great deal to our staff.

My brother has been 2 and a half years at The Meadow. His Alzheimer's has progressed in that time. He is now feeling confused and disoriented. The deputy manager and staff have been very helpful in organising twice weekly radiotherapy appointments recently. They have also looked after him through a
lengthy chest infection. I'm thankful we devoted to choose The Meadow. Liaison with GP, local hospital and community services is excellent with weekly team meetings. Visiting friends and relatives have reported that the staff are lovely and helpful and the residents look well cared for.

My mother and I were blown away by Kenbrook care home, it's truly amazing. You get a warm welcome as soon as you reach the home. The staff are all amazing and take good care of their patients (our families).
The patients are provided with 24 hour care, they are fed well and always look clean and presentable.
The patients are also very happy, which is extremely important especially for loved ones. Kenbrook has a lovely atmosphere and you feel like you are a part of a family, Kenbrook provide families and patients with event days and the families and patients are able to form bonds.
This care home is truly outstanding and would highly recommend it for those looking for care homes.

After much searching, Kenbrook Nursing Home has become my father's new home, and we couldn't be happier about it! The staff are an absolute pleasure to deal with. They're kind, polite, courteous, and are clearly loved by the residents and other staff alike. When you walk in, you feel the kindness! Then

My grandfather resided in the care home for 3 years. The staff grew fond of him as did he to them. Their kindness towards him and their understanding of his individual needs made his last few years comfortable. Importantly Kenbrook made him feel safe, which was a great comfort to us as a family.

My

grandad was quite a fussy/plain eater when he was at home. However when he went to Kenbrook we were surprised at how much he enjoyed eating tasty new foods. He always ate very well there which was originally one of our worries, when making the transition. In short the catering staff done a great job cooking a variety of tasty foods!

From the admin team to all the medical staff there is a real sense of family within the care-home which creates a homily, happy and nurturing environment for not only the residents but for their families. This is often highlighted when events are held in the day room, they make a great effort to engage everyone during national holidays.

Reply from Sarah Law, Home Manager at Kenbrook

Thank you for your review of your grandfather's care. It was a great pleasure to have our unique relationship with him in his final years. Yes, the staff were very fond of him and got to know his needs. He would always kiss our hands to say thank you and look at us very knowingly, so it is very pleasing to know we made a difference to his life.

Overall we were happy with the care given. Although the care home is primarily Residential/Dementia it would be good if staff were fully medically trained, which would give peace of mind to both residents and their families.

Activities are good, however entertainment was lacking over the weekends

and Bank holidays. It would be good if staff could encourage residents (where possible) to join in the activities or even to remind them of events planned for the day.
