The manager and the team at Fernihurst provided an outstanding service from start to finish for my Grandad who went in for respite and sadly passed away after a month of his stay. The staff couldn't have done more for him and my family, and he settled in extremely well.

Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at Fernihurst Nursing Home

Thank you for your kind words. We're truly sorry for your loss and grateful to know your Grandad felt settled and cared for during his time with us. It means a lot to the team to have supported him and your family.

Since my mum moving to Greenslades from a care home in Exeter in April things have been very good after a tricky start. The staff are very helpful and I feel my mum is happy. My only gripe would be that when my mum is in the living room she is seated into a proper chair with her legs slightly elevated.

Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home

from Allyson S (Resident) published on 7 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I love living at this home. Going into my second year now and feel so happy and safe. I have all my needs met. The home is warm and everyone is my family. I have made lots of friends. I join in with all the activities and there are so many. If I want to sit in my room then I can. I visit others in their
rooms and they come to mine to watch a film, eat snacks and drink some wine. The whole team are wonderful. This week a staff member helped me send a bunch of flowers to my niece for her birthday. They care about the little things. They have helped me get physio and I am getting a boot to help me walk again. I cannot thank them enough. We are treated as adults, cared for as adults, allowed to take risks and also kept safe. The food is nice, they treat my things with respect and are discreet when caring for me. Everyone is always so happy. I am always happy. Every morning I get woken with a smile and much needed coffee.

Furzehatt Residential and Nursing Home

from S L (Daughter of Resident) published on 2 July 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mum's time at Furzehatt care home, was like home from home with the added bonus of beautiful cooked meals 3 times a day, daily activities, weekly church services and much more.
That is before I begin on to the care and nursing team at Furzehatt, especially in the last two weeks before our mum passed
away. Mum was treated with the upmost dignity and compassion and the staff go up and beyond their job description in the care they all showed to our mum. This also went to us the family they looked after us so well too. If anyone is looking for care for a loved one, I couldn't recommend Furzehatt more. The cleaning team kept all the rooms immaculate along with all the communal lounges and dining rooms.
Thank you doesn't express enough what we feel for The Furzehatt team, from Management to all the carers, nurses, housekeeping, chefs and the wonderful reception team that always make you feel so welcome. Keep up the good work and be proud of your team.

Furzehatt is above all a Care Home. The team of staff from cleaners to admin, carers and management are outstanding in the level of care provided. Mum is currently end of life and the team have been amazing in terms of respect, kindness, support, caring - even coming in on days off and holidays to visit
Mum and support the family. Mum has previously commented on the kindness of the staff and we couldn't have asked for more during Mum's final months.

Ivydene Residential and Nursing Home

from Gail L (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 May 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Ivydene cared for my late mother for the last few years of her life. She had been in three care homes prior to Ivydene and in my opinion Ivydene was by far the best. I know my mother's needs were varied, due in part to her dementia and difficulties with speech and communication, requiring complete care
from the staff, who were patient, kind and friendly, both to her and our family. In the last weeks of her life, in particular a young man called Phil was really caring. A cleaner, present in the final weeks was lovely, she would always speak to us, and our mother even though she knew she was unlikely to receive a response. There was another member of staff that stood out. However all the staff were kind and friendly. My mother had a clean, bright and airy room that had a lovely outlook over the pretty garden, it was sad that she wasn't able to appreciate it. It was comforting knowing that the home is in good condition and well managed.

Fernihurst Nursing Home

from T P (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 15 May 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

My mother-in-law had been in Fernihurst for 18 months before she sadly passed away. The first 12 months were a joy to visit her. The staff were friendly, and laughter could be heard within the home, and there were endless activities. The home appeared to be all for the residents, sadly, during the last
six months, the level of this seemed to disappear, and the home became more about Sanctuary Care and not for the residents. There was hardly any laughter heard, and hardly any interaction with the residents. I cannot fault the care staff or Nurses for the care and love they gave to my loved one. Sadly, my loved one passed away. The nurses and carers were amazing and sent their condolences.

Reply from Fae Doherty, Senior Marketing Officer at Fernihurst Nursing Home

Greenslades Nursing Home

from R B (Wife of Resident) published on 9 May 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5

My husband's experience at Greenslades for 3 months, was not a happy one.
He had multiple physical needs ( he had end stage Parkinson's as well as other serious health conditions) which were not always met by overworked nursing staff.
Any exercise, (even just helping him to stand) which would have
encouraged him, was frustratingly denied him, because of staff shortage, and he was left in bed or his chair most of the day, unless family intervened.
Staff were friendly and helpful when asked. Some staff were excellent and went out of their way to help him.
Perhaps the greatest shock was being interrupted with my son, as my husband was taking his dying breaths, to be asked by a nurse why we had no funeral plan.
Greenslades undoubtedly suits the loved ones of many families but I do not recommend it for someone with multiple complex needs, especially end stage Parkinson's.

Due to her Alzheimers condition. My wife has been a resident in Fernihurst for more than two years. The family and I feel blessed that a place was available for her in the first instance and that the quality and standard of care provided has been excellent. My wife continues to be very content and enjoys
her homely surroundings with plenty of activities supported by attentive nurses, carers and management. Relatives are free to share in the activities and we have just enjoyed a marvellous Mother's Day celebration with entertainment followed by a wonderful afternoon tea. We know she is in the right place for the right reasons. So pleased!

Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My Mum resided in the nursing side of Furzehatt for approximately 3 years prior to then she had resided in 2 other residential care homes. The Registered Nursing staff are some of the most excellent Nurses I have had the privilege to meet they always ensured My mother's Medical needs were addressed.
They always respected my concerns and included me in decision making.
Mum had end stage Alzheimer's the time she was admitted to Furzehatt carers ensued she was treated with dignity and respect they excepted me as Mums advocate checking in with me ensuring her care needs were being met. After having not good experiences in other residential homes the day we brought Mum into Furzehatt my sister and I felt she had come home. Mum was settled in to a bright sunny room given a lovely lunch and the smile across her face was priceless a smile we had not seen in along time. Mum passed in Furzehatt March 2025 after being poorly for approximately 8 weeks the staff couldn't have been more attentive.

Ivydene Residential and Nursing Home

from Suzanne F (Daughter of Resident) published on 18 March 2025

Well, what can I say. If I could award 10 stars to Ivydene, that too would be too few. My mum is looked after so well by all the staff, from the cleaners to the management. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they know all the residents names and the family's too. It feels so much more like a large
family atmosphere than just a care home. The residents are treated like humans and are encouraged, not forced, to join in with daily activities. There's always something going on, from a quiz, to a good old sing song. From personal experience my mum is always washed, hair done, dressed smartly even if she wants to be in her room all day. The food she is served always looks delicious and a good range is always on offer. Plus the dining room is clean with linen table cloths and flowers, such a nice touch. They have certainly managed to help my mum to be the best she can be with her dementia.
Thank you.

from Jill D (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 March 2025

Mum has been in the Nursing Home since August 2024. The care that she receives is outstanding across the board. From the cleaner stopping to chat and joking with Mum to understanding her moods and adjusting care accordingly. Mum likes to stay asleep in the morning and often has her wash/shower in the
afternoon. All of the carers show kindness and treat her with great dignity. Recently this was shown in an amazing effort to make Mums 90th birthday very special for her. Including a birthday cake from the kitchen and all gathering to sing happy birthday, we held a family gathering in the quiet area and enjoyed a cup of tea and birthday cake with Mum.
At Christmas every effort was made to ensure an enjoyable day for all residents, at the level they could engage in.
There is a regular programme of interesting activities, Mum doesn't engage much with others( her preference) but receives individual visits and pampering sessions.
We really couldn't be happier with the care provided.
