Unfortunately this will be my final review on Pengover Care Home as my mother passed away in April after spending three happy years in Pengover. Her care during that time was amazing and I would recommend anyone whose family member needs to go into care that Pengover would be a fantastic place for them.
It has always been a pleasure to visit several times a week, which I will miss.

Penberthy Residential Care Home

from L D (Regular Volunteer) published on 1 June 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
The staff are always friendly and helpful. They are caring of every resident; knowing each individual and their specific needs.
The residents go on outings or have people/groups come in to sing, entertain and/or socialize. The staff also put on special events; for example, they had a birthday outing
for a particular resident at a special location and invited her work friends from 40 or 50 years ago as a special surprise. It was a joy for all involved!
Penberthy has a lovely private garden where the residents can relax in the sunshine and peaceful outdoors.
I enjoy volunteering at Penberthy where the residents are well cared for by the great staff in a comfortable, bright and clean environment.
Reply from Jacob Hardie, Design and Marketing Assistant at Penberthy Residential Care HomeThank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. I cannot thank the wonderful care and nursing staff at St Martin's enough. The attention, care and compassion all the staff give to my Dad everyday is simply outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they genuinely care that my Dad is comfortable and happy. They even go above and beyond
to make sure myself and my family when visiting are okay, so that we can spend quality time with Dad now that he is under palliative care. I will forever be thankful to all the staff here for all they have done for my Dad and my family.

Generally everything is good. I just wish that there would be more attention in certain things. Like check more frequently the state of the rooms, especially bathroom - make sure that there is always loo paper, towels. Many times the room floor is not clean after lunch, sticky floor etc.

My Mum recently moved to Blackwood, it hasn't been an easy transition as my Mum has Dementia and was very distressed because she was so confused. The wonderful staff team have been exceptional in calming Mum down and settling her into her new home, and they have been brilliant at helping my brother
and I manage the transition as well. Mum has settled in now and is happy, content and thriving in her new surroundings, she has made friends and always praises the lovely team there. Mum has a lovely room with a great view of the beautiful secure garden, there's lots to keep her busy and with support from the excellent events manager Bernie, she has even joined the knitting club! It's so good to see Mum so happy - it's a really lovely home.
