My husband has dementia and is bedbound. Adelaide has been his home since January this year. I visit almost every day, and I couldn't wish for better care for him. All the staff are incredible and nothing is too much trouble for them. They are kind, friendly, caring and professional. The nursing staff
always keep me up to date with his care. Knowing he is safe and well cared for is a huge comfort, as moving someone you love into a care home is a difficult decision. I highly recommend Adelaide. Thank you all.

I visited my father in law yesterday and at one stage he rang for assistance to help him to the toilet. Someone came after a few minutes and advised him that help was on the way. After twenty five minutes my wife went outside to get help which was shortly given. This is certainly not the first time
and I have seen some people wait for up to 40 mins for help to the toilet. Surely this is totally unacceptable. The table and chairs have been removed from a lovely spot in the area where the managers office is where the residents can look out to the flowers etc. This was brought to the attention of two managers and staff and we have fobbed of with various excuses.

I am delighted and describe my feelings about BGCH. It has exceeded all my expectations. The building is well organised with plenty of space. The rooms are comfortable. I would prefer a lock on my bedroom door but understand the absence. The staff are very encouraging with regard to exercise. I would
like to repeat the experience. Best wishes and thanks to everyone.

You never know what to expect when you take a loved one to a care home. In fact, some pretty dreadful images come to my mind with the words "care home". These images & fears couldn't be further from the truth with Barnet Grange. The place feels like a 5* hotel. However, it's not just appearances that
are 5*, so is the super responsive & friendly management & staff who show real and genuine care and kindness to our Mum. Thank you so much!

My mother stayed here for 6 years. The last few years in the dementia floor. It has seen many changes during this time. Signature owned it initially and now Avery. My mum has always been happy here. In the last few months she has needed needed intensive care and then comfort care before she passed.
In the latter period I was visiting daily and watched the love and affection demonstrated by the staff. It made this period so much easier for me and my family to cope. I would happily recommend this home.

My wife is unable to walk or help herself, so is of high maintenance, the nursing staff look after her daily caring for all her needs, nothing is off to much trouble for them. We found all staff, whether catering nursing, management etc are all first class. The home is beautifully clean, with nice feel.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Purley Gardens to anybody who is need of care either for short or long stay.

from Hansa M (Daughter of Resident) published on 16 June 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Our Dad was a resident at the Birchwood Grange for the last 8 weeks of his life, and we were very impressed by the Care he received from the Carers, Nursing staff, Chefs and catering staff. All our requests were taken seriously and supported with kindness which made our Dad's last few weeks peaceful
and comfortable. In particular two nurses from the management team took personal interest to ensure we were fully supported through this difficult time. We can't thank them enough and would recommend this Home for your loved ones. The only downside if any was the GP service attached to the Home which could have been a bit more caring and responsive.

Reply from Kerry Richards, Manager at Birchwood Grange Care Home - Avery Healthcare

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was truly an honour to care for your Dad during the last weeks of his life. We're so pleased to hear that you felt supported and that our team helped make his time with us peaceful and comfortable. That really means a lot to us.Your kind words about our carers, nurses, chefs, and catering staff have been shared with everyone, and they were very touched. We're especially glad that two of our management nurses were able to support you personally - they will be so happy to know they made a difference. We also appreciate your feedback about the GP service. We're always working to improve and will continue to do our best to make sure every part of our care is as kind and responsive as it should be.Thank you again for your trust and for recommending us. Wandsworth Common Care Home - Avery Collection

from Michael W (Son of Resident) published on 19 May 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Dad (90) has now been here for a couple of months, and we all think the place is amazing. As our daughter, 16, marvelled: "this place doesn't feel like a care home". No, it is much nicer than that. The building looks like a yellow submarine from the outside, but inside it has the airy, luxurious feel
of a grand hotel. Some of the same animation, too.

We very much enjoy our visits. Dad is full of praise for his carers, and it is heartening often to find him - a very shy man - chatting happily with others in the cafe or courtyard when we arrive, unannounced. Someone is quietly making the effort to see that this happens.

There are some lovely activities. The nursing care is on-the-ball, and we are all struck the wonderfully upbeat atmosphere that seems to run through the building. Dad loves being able to help himself to treats from the cafe; to have a glass of wine with supper; to invite us to join him for lunch. We feel blessed, and cannot imagine a better place for him.

Reply from William Burke, CLM at Wandsworth Common Care Home - Avery Collection

Wandsworth Common Care Home - Avery Collection

As with many, it was a massive move for my 93 year-old stepmother to give up independent living and move into a care home. From the start, the Wandsworth team have been fantastic with her as she adjusts to her new way of life. The home is well run, well staffed and the atmosphere is WAY better than
other care homes we viewed - with daily activities that are interesting and stimulating. Not that my stepmother does any of them - but she's very impressed with the hairdresser and manicurist! In the end, though, it is the quality of the staff that matters most and the Wandsworth carers are kind and engaging - and are working hard to get my stepmother more active. The lady on reception, is delightful and the management team don't hide away in an office. However, I was disappointed to read, if correct, that the carers are not paid while on a meal break during a shift...so I promptly deducted a star. Come on, Avery board of directors! You make enough to pay your staff correctly.
