Birchmere House Care Home - Avery Healthcare

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I spent 2 periods in Birchmere House for respite care while my wife had 2 cataract operations. Due to a TIA I had to return to B. H. a few days earlier than planned. I was welcomed back warmly and moved to the nursing floor to accommodate my additional needs. My main criticism is the delay in dealing
with my severe diarrhoea during my 2nd stay, and while feeling particularly ill, I found the loud and persistent call bells very trying. I was particularly grateful for the courteous care and attention I had from the Bangladeshi carers who gave me my showers. Full marks to the chef and staff for the personal attention to my very strict dietary needs. I will readily recommend B. H to friends needing care
Reply from Nicola Urry, Client Liaison Manager at Birchmere House Care Home - Avery HealthcareWe are delighted to hear you enjoyed your convalescence at Birchmere House.

We are, however, sorry to learn that you felt your illness was not addressed promptly as it should have been. We greatly value your feedback on such matters, as it helps us reflect and continually improve our service.

We pride ourselves on the culinary service at Birchmere House, we are pleased you enjoyed your experience and that we were able to cater for your specific dietary requirements.

Thank you for taking your time to share your experiences. We look forward to welcoming you back for any potential future respite stays.

- I think Dad's first week was stressful for him & this manifested in complaints to me about most things, specificually; medicaine management, lunch & supper too early, bored after 6pm
- In week 2 things settled down & he developed relationships & the routine became familiar. He loved the breakfasts
but was less keen on lunch & supper
- By the end of his stay he was happy, enjoyed people's company & activities, but he was desparate to get home. When the time comes he will certainly return to Bourn View.
Reply from Grace Pritchard, Customer Service Manager at Bourn View Care Home - Avery HealthcareThank you for taking the time to leave your review. It was a pleasure looking after your father, and he will always be very welcome to return. We appreciate your feedback and can assure you that any issues or requests were addressed promptly by our management team, and we always strive to provide a varied and enjoyable menu for both lunch and supper to cater to our residents' preferences.

It is so nice to come back time and again to Albion Court as a return respite. The care and consideration shown to dads care and our family is second to none. This is Dad's third stay at Albion Court. He likes to see the same faces and loves the trains going past. I personally love all the singers and
creative ideas to keep all residents happy.

Since being admitted as a resident the care my mother has received is excellent and second to none. She has been happy and settled from the 1st day.
The staff have a very special way of nurturing all the residents and Mum has thrived since being there.
As a family we have been actively encouraged to
visit and made extremely welcome. I have and would continue to recommend Birchmere Mews as a centre of excellence.

My mother has been a resident 7 months now and overall we have been extremely pleased. The staff are attentive and always treat each resident as an individual with their own needs and personalities whilst providing profession care. The well-being co-ordinators go out of their way greet, encourage,
empathise and stimulate the residents - giving them a hug, or just holding their hand. What surprised and touched me was how the staff are also aware of the needs and feelings of the family and help us through what is sometimes a tricky and upsetting time. Thank you to everyone

We started off by booking my Nan in for respite in December 2025 she had a great time and settled very well,
Sadly when we brought her home she was very unsettled and unhappy,
She returned to become a long term resident and it's the best thing we ever did,
Every member of staff makes you feel welcome
and my Nan is now thriving happy and loving life again.
Nothing is to much and we couldn't of asked for anymore for my Nan or us as a family
Thank you for making such a horrible choice into the best choice choosing not just a care home but a home from home for my Nan !

My Mother has been at Birchmere for 11 weeks and has finally settled. She has been made very welcome by all the staff.
Her room has been personalised by hanging her own pictures. The generally day to day house keeping is excellent. Also, cooking her favourite meals is never too much trouble.
The
home has a lovely bistro where we can meet as a family and enjoy coffee and cake. She has particularly enjoyed the music events, from singers to classical quartets.
She also enjoys rides out in the Minibus.
She has experienced some uncertainties over the correct medication and subsequent timings, but hopefully this has now been resolved. The family feel that she is being cared for to a high standard.
Reply from Nicola Urry, Client Liaison Manager at Birchmere House Care Home - Avery HealthcareWe are delighted to hear that your mother has settled into life at Birchmere House and has been made to feel welcomed by all of the staff. The Staff work hard to ensure that residents feel safe and cared for.
There is an open door policy and we value family and friends feedback, so that we can learn and enhance every residents experience.

I would like to say a big thank you to Bev and the team at Newcross Care Home for the wonderful care offered to my Step Dad over the last few weeks. At what suddenly became a very stressful situation, we couldn't have asked for more support, not only for my Step Dad but for myself and my Sister. We
urgently needed to find a respite bed and within 15 minutes of calling the home, Bev and Sian were standing on the door step. A very through assessment of needs was completed and a careful plan made for us to arrive at the home when the entertainer was there.
It was really great that we were able to walk away that day knowing he was safe and being well looked after.
The whole team have made him feel so welcome and have provided wonderful, caring support in what has been a very distressing time.
The environment is warm and welcoming, clean and homely. There are lots of activities and everyone encouraged to participate.
I'd like to rate it more than five stars!

Mum was a resident at Newcross Care Home for 4 years and we have been very happy with care received throughout this time. In more recent weeks of her stay mum became very unwell and her needs became more demanding. The care remained excellent. staff were very attentive to mums needs and remained her
advocate throughout. Family were extremely well supported throughout this time, always being made to feel welcome, kept up to date on all changes and encouraged to speak up on behalf of mum as a family we can honestly say we could not have asked for anything better.
