My mother has been resident in Burrows House for about three years now. I do not live locally but I am able to visit every couple of months. My sister does live nearby and visits the home at least once per week. In all our dealings with the staff a Burrows house we have seen nothing but a considerate
and caring attitude. At the time we chose Burrows house for my mother we considered other bigger, glossier and probably better equipped homes. We were completely swayed by the warmth and kindness of the staff.
My mother is very frail in body and mind . She has very little capability for enjoyment and she needs care and kindness above all else. Every member of staff I have dealt with at Burrows House provides this care willingly and sincerely. I have great respect for them all.

On arrival the staff are always very welcoming, happy and cheerful. They give a wonderful first impression when you come in. I visit my wife mostly daily or every other, and she's well cared for. If she needs help, they come in and there's no fuss. Generally it's a happy experience when I visit. The
staff are cheery and helpful. My wife isn't able to get involved in the activities so it's not something I wish to review.

St Stephens

from Ann T (Wife of Resident) published on 10 September 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband was diagnosed with dementia in January, his health rapidly declined, I spent months trying to care for him day and night until he was sectioned in May. Never having experienced dementia before it came as a dreadful shock. But from the time he was admitted to St Stephen's in July, the care
he's received has been phenomenal, not only that but the support for me and my family has been amazing. I visit every day and it's wonderful to see the way all the staff care for all the residents, showing compassion and respect for every single person. The food they receive is made from fresh produce and plenty of it. There is a lovely garden, various activities arranged through the week, access to a Dr if necessary, regular visits from a podiatrist and a hairdresser. It's been such a comfort to me and my family to know how well he is being looked after. I can't thank them all enough for all their hard work and smiling faces.

I would love to see the full investigation/formal response to all of the complaints as we have never seen a formal response in particular to the verbal abuse attack on myself from a staff member issue, I have had to go back into therapy because of this. I was doing so well with my own issuse & was
out of therapy. One complaint was resolved by us spending an hour in the laundry room we have NEVER had what I would deem a formal response because while they do come back and acknowledge any subsequent points/discussions/concerns are ignored with no follow up. They are quick enough to follow up negative reviews. The staff do their best & we cannot fault their efforts but there aren't enough of them. Dementia residents are put into a loud room together and just left there with little stimulation, we then asked for her to be put in quiet room and found her on her own and had to give her 4 beakers of orange juice where she was so thirsty I raised a concern over this but it happened again.
Reply from Charlotte Ford, Home Manager at Queensway House

Thanks again, for leaving another review. We have a comprehensive complaints policy which shows you the available steps to take if you are unsatisfied of the outcome of any matter raised and investigated, and the escalation process therein. You were indeed provided with a response, and an in person meeting was also held with the regional manager. The staff member who was the subject of your complaint is no longer employed by us, and, whilst we are sorry that this has had such an impact on you, with this in mind there is little more that we can now do and the matter is closed. Numerous changes have been made under my management, including the introduction of a quiet lounge, and we are currently in the throes of implementing a cafe area. Our priority remains our residents, and ensuring their care and comfort, and all feedback is welcome in allowing us to make any and all improvements and changes that benefit them.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum is very happy at Autumn Vale and is responding well to the staff who are helpful, kind and attentive, particularly when feeding on a one to one basis. Mum is encouraged to move and is engaged by the conversation and activities going on around her. Meals are plentiful and nutritious. As a family,
we are impressed and a big thank you to your wonderful staff.
