Bowes House

from Andrew B (Son of Resident) published on 3 July 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Our mum's dementia and other health factors prompted us to take the decision to move her to a care home. She has been fiercely independent all her life and was totally against leaving her own home. We had help from social services so we knew we were making the right decision but it was very stressful.
The people of Bowes house, and the facility itself, have made my mum's move a great success. We are pleased with all the staff we have met and have dealings with. And our Mum looks healthier, she is eating well, taking her meds and talking to other residents. She's the best I've seen her for many months.
Reply from Lisa Phillips, Reviews Team at Bowes HouseHi Andrew,
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review, we hold ourselves to a high account here at Bowes House so I am pleased to hear we have lived up to this standard in your experience. It is a privilege and a pleasure to support Mum and happy to hear that she is thriving in this setting. We are also happy we could support your family through a difficult time.
Kind regards
Lisa

I visit regularly and have seen such an improvement in my father. I like how whenever a staff member walks by they ask how he is.
The care staff are kind and caring. They keep us informed of how my father has been.
The lifestyle team are amazing and put on some fun activities and bring in different
entertainers which always seem to go down well.
The food is a good variety and good quality. And the cakes in the cafe are lovely.
Staff are always very welcoming and happy to chat and listen.

The care provided by the staff at Heffle Court is excellent. They are a good well managed team, working to provide the best care for the residents.
My husband was a resident for a long time. I was always confident that he was being well cared for mentally and physically.
I would also comment on how
the end of life care was so well planned. It was thoughtful and sympathetic to both my husband's needs and ours as a family.

The staff are all very helpful and friendly and most importantly caring.
The girls that put on the entertainment are excellent with the residents and the residents love their shows.
Great bistro area so you can take your family member to have a coffee and cake in a different setting and they have
a lovely garden that you can sit out in when the weather is good.

The carehome..we're the only people willing to even begin to help me and my auntie.
My auntie was at the top level of care and no other care home were willing to accept and calling her too much of a walker.. I needed someone anyone to just stop and listen and help..
I was at the end of a long list..
then she was admitted to hospital.. and further complications happened like a broken hip.
After passing on my findings to the hospital. They said no to heffle. As they were not on nhs primary lists. but over the next few months after not finding anyone to send my auntie too. They came back to me asking for heffle court details.. vlad and the team worked well with the hospital with a few false starts from NHS. But now that my auntie is here at heffle she is doing well.. she so needed the care of 24/7
Thank u heffle court.

The staff team at Bowes house have continued to provide high quality care and activities for our father while we, the family, have been working hard to sell his flat. Their patience and support has enabled this stressful process not to interrupt our father's continuity of care and his daily life, during
his late stage of Alzheimer's. We are now through this period and are happy that his place at Bowes House is secure for the foreseeable future. ThankYou to all staff involved.

I have nothing but praise for the hardworking and dedicated staff at Southlands Place. The home itself is modern, bright, airy and well equipped. The facilities are good and there is a range of interesting and varied activities. But it is those who work there who make Southlands Place an outstanding
care environment. There is cheerfulness throughout and my wife - who was resident for 3 months - was treated consistently with warmth, kindness and professionalism. As a visitor I always felt welcome and always felt able to discuss concerns and progress with management, care and nursing staff.

The staff are dedicated, caring, enthusiastic and professional. Residents have daily activities sessions published in advance for family and friends to view. Very importantly anyone suffering from dementia are not shut away in their own area but free to mix with other residents, under supervision. There
is also a variety of meals cooked professionally.

My father celebrated his 100th birthday in March 2026. A small family party was arranged by Southlands Place staff throughout the process from the initial enquiry to the event on the day, nothing was too much trouble. Management and reception staff were supportive and efficient, care staff were friendly,
caring and professional, and catering staff produced a buffet and cake of very good quality and suitable for the occasion. On the day the room was decorated brilliantly and arranged in such a way that conversations could be had and photographs taken. All in all a great day. Thank you Southlands.

My mother spent three very happy years at Claydon House. The staff are fantastic, and hardly any turnover of staff. This is important that the same people provided her care. Communication with me was excellent. I would rate Claydon House as outstanding in every aspect.
