Bowes House

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My mum has been at Bowes for 3 years.
I do not think she would still be with us if it was not for the care she has received. She has made friends with other residents and they have a strong community spirit.
She is in the early stages of dementia but the activities that they have daily help maintain
her physically and mentally. The home is always clean and as it is constantly updated.
The staff are friendly and attentive.
The food is good and there are always tempting snakes and drinks offered so even the residents who do not have a big appetite are well catered for.
They take mum on trips and vary the days by celebrating events through the year .
Mum is always treated with respect, kindness and dignity.
I have never regretted placing here there.

My mother was placed at Heffle Court for her end of life days. The moment we walked in, we were given the best welcome. People could not do enough for Mum and also my family. Nothing was too much, we were never rushed, and when my mother passed, we were able to take our time to say our goodbyes to her.
Also, if we needed any help at any time, all we had to do was ask. Thank you so much.

My mother stayed at Bowes House for 3 weeks respite/rehabilitation after a 2-week hospital stay. Lisa was very quick to organise the admission and ensure everything was in place. It is a lovely environment for the residents and all the staff are amazing. We would have no hesitation in booking Mum back
in should she need further rest bite care.
Reply from Lisa Phillips, Reviews Team at Bowes HouseDear Fran,

Bowes House

from Russell H (Power of Attorney of Resident) published on 25 February 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I requested an urgent assessment for respite care for someone I have power of attorney for. The comprehensive assessment of needs was completed at home, by the clinical lead practitioner for Bowes House within 24 hours. Admission was arranged for the following day as the individual elderly gentleman
was struggling to manage at home, his self-care had deteriorated and he had recently had a couple of falls.
On admission we were greeted by friendly attentive staff and despite initial natural anxieties about being in a care provision, the resident soon settled into a routine and with assistance from the caring staff has requested to extend his period of respite care for a further two weeks.
Reply from Lisa Phillips, Reviews Team at Bowes HouseDear Russell,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, here at Bowes House we hold ourselves to a high account and are delighted to hear that we have met this.
We strive to provide a supportive settling in experience and work hard to try and help new residents to integrate and get the best out of their stay with us, so we are happy to hear that this gentleman has enjoyed his time here with us.
Thank you again for spending time to share your experience with us online, as it will assist other families who may be looking into care.
Kind regards
Lisa

My dad has been a resident of Heffle Court for 11 months now. Since our first meeting, Dad has been treated and cared for with dignity, love and respect. We have been kept well informed of any issues concerning Dad's health and mental and physical well-being. The staff caring for Dad are truly wonderful
people, and Dad trusts them with his personal care. I really feel our family and the staff at Heffle are a team who want to make sure Dad has the very best care.

Following a challenging hospital stay, my mother was admitted to Bowes House for a six-week period of rehabilitation, which has since transitioned into long-term care. Her needs are complex and require specialist nursing support. Although the staff were initially unprepared for this level of care, they
actively sought specialist training to accommodate her requirements, thereby enabling her continued residence at Bowes House. Without such training, she would have required readmission to hospital.
The staff provide high-quality care and foster an inviting environment for families. Residents benefit from engaging activities, and family participation is encouraged. The coffee lounge offers visitors a comfortable space to enjoy refreshments.
I am deeply appreciative of the staff's commitment and professionalism throughout my mother's time at Bowes House.

I can only speak very positively of my Mum's experience of two-weeks respite at Bowes House. Having been diagnosed with several health issues, and the hospital not having any beds, my Mum required urgent nursing care. We thought respite would be the answer. Bowes House arranged an assessment and my
Mum was moved in within 24 hours. With the loving and professional care she received she has fully recovered and is returning home. Both my Mum and Dad have been fully supported. Staff are caring, professional and very friendly. Mum and Dad feel like they have made new friends and are looking forward to attending the activity sessions soon.

I am happy that my father is well cared for and settled. He seems content, and that is also how visitors see him. Sometimes his personal items go missing, so we can't leave his food treats out for him - but then he doesn't see them. - This is a little bit sad.
It can be difficult to talk to him in
the common areas because the music is too loud.
Staff are always welcoming and helpful.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Heather ViewThank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are pleased to hear that your father is settled, content, and well cared for, and that this is reflected in how he presents to visitors. His comfort and wellbeing are always our priority, so your reassurance means a great deal to our team.
We appreciate you raising the points about personal items and food treats. Unfortunately, within a dementia care environment, items can sometimes be moved or misplaced unintentionally, and we understand how sad it can feel when this affects your father’s enjoyment. We will reflect on this and continue to look for ways to support residents in safely accessing their personal items.
Thank you also for highlighting the concern regarding music volume in communal areas. We are sorry to hear that this has caused some communication difficulties. Music is often used therapeutically; however, we recognise the importance of ensuring it does not make communication difficult. We will share this feedback with the team and review how we manage sound levels to better support conversation and meaningful interaction. We have several other spaces that can be used if you prefer more private time to spend with your father.
Finally, we are delighted to hear your kind comments about our staff. Creating a welcoming, supportive atmosphere for residents and families is very important to us, and your words will be shared with the team.
Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback. Please do not hesitate to speak with us directly if there is ever anything you would like to discuss further.

Dad has received excellent care in his first year in Heather View. Mom died in June, and the staff have been consistently kind and supportive. They are extremely patient with Dad's repeated questions about Mum's absence.
I don't think we could have found a better place for him with his complex needs.

Mum has been at Heather View for just over a year. There have been some minor 'teething' issues, but generally everything has been very good. Minor interactions with cloths being lost, hearing aids not working, etc, but once raised, these have been addressed. Mum is very happy, even referring to it
as 'her lounge'. So generally, very happy with the care and attention she receives.

I have found the experience of having a relative at Heather View to be very positive. The staff have been friendly and kind. I know that I can receive help and advice if I need it, and my relative has settled very quickly into an environment very different to their own home.
It is a comfort to know
that medical support is quickly available from the home as well as the local GPs.
The monthly meetings are useful and connect us to the management team who are keen to be available and helpful.

My father has been in Bowes House for nearly a month now. He suffers from Alzheimers and needs constant supervision.
When visiting him I have been greeted by friendly staff ready to inform me about his wellbeing. I can see that he is well cared for and looked after. The care staff are always
kind and reassuring to him.
The home looks clean, tidy and well maintained.
There seems to be lots of activities for the residents to participate in if they wish.
My father is enjoying the food offered and looks forward to meal times. I notice that he always has snacks and drinks when he wants them as well.
The management have been very helpful and informative with their advice to me.
