My mum has been at Appleby House for 2 months now. From the moment we entered the door we felt the warmth of the care team as they all rallied around to make Mum and us feel comfortable and welcome. We are very happy with the care that mum receives and feel that mum is in a very safe environment
where she can feel included. Mum participates in all the activities available and we, her children, also feel included and kept up to date of everything she does. Thank you to all the team for looking after our Mum xx

Kingsleigh Care Home have changed our families life for the better, they have given mum the confidence to carry on with a positive outlook to life despite her dementia , enjoying all the activities, eating better, making friends and having some independence with wonderful caring staff. This in turn
means we no longer have to worry about her and can go back to being family and not carers.

Staff are always willing to engage and talk to me about my sister. All staff know who she is. I am regularly (weekly) updated with my sister's progress and anything that comes up in between I am notified straight away. There is always a welcome and immediate access to my sister no matter when I turn
up. I am always impressed with the care every member of staff takes.

Appleby House

from D B (Relative of Resident) published on 24 April 2025

My elderly relative has been in Appleby for approximately 2years and as we live in the opposite end of the country it's difficult to get to see her so we rely on the staff to look after her. She's obviously very happy as we have tried to get her to move down to Devon where she would be able to have
more visitors and we would be able to do more for her, but she refuses to move. The staff and management are so helpful whenever we contact them for help they just make our request possible. On her 100th birthday the staff arranged a wonderful party for which she and us really enjoyed. They also arranged for her to visit the Natural History Museum which is something she wanted to do, although she backed out at the last minute and everyone was disappointed. Time is given to listen to her and they try to give her what she wants. Also we are kept informed by management on her needs.

Our aunt has been in Appleby house for over 1 year . She is treated with dignity and respect.
She had her 100th birthday and the home gave a lovely party.
The managers and staff are very friendly and approachable they have helped and advised us when needed. They know each residents little ways , which
shows they care.
There is always some activity for the residents to participate .
In the entrance hall there is always some new colourful art work to greet you.
We know aunty is well cared for and safe which is really important as we live some distance away .
Thanks you to all the staff at Appleby House

The home is clean and the carers do their best as they have many residents with different needs. There are many areas for residents to sit and socialise. There are lots of activities provided. We are always welcome as visitors at any time, but the staff are hard to find during weekends.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Kingsleigh

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding Kingsleigh. We truly appreciate your positive comments regarding the cleanliness of the home, the efforts of our staff, and the variety of activities and social spaces available for residents. It’s wonderful to know that you feel welcome as a visitor, and we strive to create an environment where everyone feels at home.

We also appreciate your constructive feedback regarding the availability of staff on weekends. We understand that this can be a concern, and we are always actively working to ensure that we have the correct balance of staff during the weekend. Your input is invaluable, and we will continue to improve this aspect of our service to better support both residents and visitors.

If you ever have any further concerns, we politely encourage you to reach out to the Home Manager directly who would be more than happy to listen to and address these efficiently and effectively.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. We are committed to providing the best care and experience possible and will continue to make improvements where needed.

Amherst House

from Sandra C (Friend of Resident) published on 15 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I usually visit once a week to see my friend. I have always found Amherst House Care Home, clean and tidy, the staff are very friendly, there is always someone in Reception to ask any questions. The Residents Room is clean and tidy. I like the cosy feel of the Lounge / Dining room area.
My visit
last week was no exception, I join my friend at the dining table at lunch time to chat to her, the meal was of the usual good standard, they are present well to the residents, it is nice to see the food has colour to it and not just bland colours. A chef will pop down occasional to check on things.
The Care staff for the House my friend is in are very happy and attentive to the residents. My friend is a social person and this Thursday they were meeting up in on of the Lounge area to celebrate a residents birthday. I
I enjoy going to see my friend at Amherst House.

Appleby House

from Rose D (Daughter of Resident) published on 15 April 2025

Our Mom has been at Appleby House for 2 months and all the staff have been so kind and caring to her, answering any questions we have. We were all worried about our Mom not settling, and at first she was asking to come home, but after the first month she has not asked to come home and seems to have
accepted being there. We feel this is due to how caring everyone is, not only the individual carers but all the management and staff. Appleby has a homely feel and is kept very clean with lots of colourful artwork on the walls. Our mum looks forward to meal times and the chef has even made special spicy foods for her which she enjoys. They have an excellent daily activities programme and it is reassuring to us that Mum joins in most of them , and the staff will come and find her and encourage her to join and ensure she is included. Based on the first 2 months we feel that our mum is in a safe and very caring environment and thank the staff for all their support.

Compassionate, professional, and truly caring staff.

Kingsleigh Care Home has been a wonderful place for my sister-in-law. From the moment she moved in, we've seen such a positive change in her well-being. The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely seem to care about each resident as an individual.

The home itself is clean, welcoming, and always has a calm, friendly atmosphere.

We've been impressed by the activities and social opportunities they offer-there's always something going on to keep residents engaged and connected. The communication with families is also excellent; we always feel informed and involved.

Most importantly, my sister-in-law feels safe, respected, and happy. We're truly grateful to everyone at Kingsleigh for the dignity and kindness they show every day.

The staff are fantastic, so caring and enthusiastic. I don't know where they get their constant energy and cheerfulness from.
The entertainment is excellent and it's lovely to see everyone singing and dancing. Mum is a bit shy to join in but she enjoys watching everyone else.
It's such a relief to
know that mum is looked after so well and I'm always welcomed any time that I pop in to see her and always kept up to date with her health needs.
I think that all the staff do a wonderful job with such a range of needs to deal with, many thanks to everyone.
