Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My father was a resident at Smyth Lodge from September 2024 until his death, one week short of his 98th birthday, in August 2025. The facilities and standard of care at Smyth Lodge are excellent and my father enjoyed a greatly improved quality of life during his 11 months there. All the staff were so
caring towards him and everyone I came into contact knew of his needs and wants. It really did feel that Smyth Lodge was his home and not just an institution in which he was a resident. Visiting him was a pleasure, from the always warm greetings from all the staff to having a morning chat with him over the excellent coffee and pastries in the coffee bar and a post-lunch glass of beer or wine in the bar or garden.

It is a special place staffed by a special team.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum was admitted into the care of Franklin House in May 2025. I can only heap praise on every single member of staff that works there. From the moment mum moved in, they made her feel very welcome and extremely comfortable. They went out of their way to tend to her needs and i know she was very happy
to be there after much trepidation about leaving her flat. Even though we went to visit every day, the staff always made a point of coming to see us to update us about mums progress and her food intake. It is extremely clean and tidy within the building and it was lovely that we were able to bring our dog with us to visit her. As mum had lost her mobility, it was lovely to be able to take her outside into the garden so she could get outside on the sunny days. Sadly she passed in August, but the staff were so helpful and caring when arranging everything. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My husband had three weeks respite at Sherwood Grange in August. Time was taken to settle him in and I was also made very welcome and told that I could visit at any time of day.
He liked the staff and they seemed to like him so I felt quite happy after five days to go away with my family for a weeks
holiday leaving him in their care. While I was away I even had a phone call to say that he was ok.
Even on my return he did not seem to mind that he was not coming home with me which proved to me that he was quite at home there.
This respite has been invaluable for my wellbeing to allow me to continue to look after my husband with Alzheimers for as long as I can.

Mum came to Cumberland for respite care staying for 4 weeks. She immediately settled and felt at home.
Throughout her stay, the staff were always friendly, helpful and smiling. They were in particular good when Mum had to have an injured thumb dealt with.
Overall, no praise can be high enough for
Cumberland House and we are only moving her for the convenience of location for family and friends.

Sherwood Grange

from S C (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 September 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum was at Sherwood Grange for just over a year and had the best care we could have asked for. I was very unsure about using a care home but it was the right choice. Mum had companionship and a staff team who really cared. They arranged a party for her Birthday which was so special. It was also great
from a relative's point of view as communication was excellent and we were able to arrange for help with hospital trips when we weren't available. The 'open door' policy for visiting was so reassuring. The whole team were amazing from the office staff, the reception team to the carers who all took the time to really know the residents. A particular thanks to the team leaders, who all went the extra mile as well as carers who Mum got to know and trust. Most importantly, Mum called it home and that, I think, says it all.

When my mother moved into Sherwood Grange, she found the staff welcoming, caring and kind. Visitors also are made to feel very welcome.
The ensuite rooms are very pleasant and comfortable. The home is very clean and well maintained and all the common areas comfortable and inviting for both residents
and visitors. There is a pretty garden area as well.
The meals are very good and beautifully served and there are plenty of varied activities for those that want.
I would definitely recommend Sherwood Grange.

The management and staff are all extremely caring, respectful, professional and just absolutely amazing.
We couldn't have wished for a better place for my mums respite. They made her feel welcome and totally cared for during her stay. They made everything so simple, effortless and nothing was too
much trouble.
Just brilliant.

I truly enjoy the activities I attend, especially when animals visit for pet therapy-it's always such a wonderful experience. The activities team are very enthusiastic and always create a welcoming, engaging atmosphere for everyone. The home itself is very clean, well cared for, and the management team
are always approachable and helpful.

It was not an easy decision to put our mother, who has vascular dementia, in full time residential care.
My sister and I looked at many Care Homes and we are both so glad that we chose Buchanan Court for our mother.
The Home is spotlessly clean, the staff are friendly and welcoming and offer an exceptionally
high standard of care, in my opinion.
The carers really do take the time and trouble to get to know the individual residents' likes and dislikes and make an effort to accommodate the individual's personal needs.
I cannot say how much it means to me to hear my mother laughing with the Carers and to know that she feels safe, happy and cared for and is treated with dignity and respect. The entertainments that are provided at Buchanan Court are much appreciated by the Residents and their attending relatives. Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Buchanan Court for all their hard work and dedication.

My experience at Buchanan Court Care Home has been excellent. I was on Byron ward. Bearing in mind that many of the occupants of Byron ward have multiple problems and are often very ill and need a lot of attention. My observation is that the nursing and care staff work very hard and give wonderful,
kind care to everyone. I felt it was important to all staff that I acknowledged this!!

Foxbridge House is an excellent choice for your parent/loved one.
Although the building, gardens and facilities are really good, what makes Foxbridge special is the staff.
From top to bottom, the staff are terrific. They always have time for you, nothing is ever too much trouble. They work hard,
they are very professional and they are extremely helpful. They are also very friendly and positive.
In short, they do a great job and it is very reassuring to know that your relative is under their care.
In the case of my mum, she took a while to adjust to the idea of leaving her house. Now, she wouldn't be anywhere else.

The staff (of every area) are so so kind, caring, helpful and professional, and nothing is too much trouble for them, and they are ALWAYS willing to help, support and listen
to the family's needs, in addition to our uncle's needs too!
We are extremely HAPPY that we have placed our uncle in this care home!

Overall, the atmosphere at Greville House is open and very caring and sincere. The staff are very kind and considerate and helpful. There is total transparency. The nursing care is second to none. The home itself is not too large and does not feel like an institution. The home goes out of its way to
provide your loved one with respect and quality of life and I have always felt welcome.

This is the first time my husband has been in respite care. We looked at several. At Amberley Lodge, we both felt very comfortable immediately - ALL the staff are warm and friendly and very engaging with the clients.

He was was happy to come back home but very emotional to leave Amberley Lodge

- he said "thank you - you have all been wonderful".
