Cuttlebrook Hall

from Margaret O (Resident) published on 2 October 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
I was fortunate to spend 2 weeks in respite care at Cuttlebrook Hall in June-July 2025. The weather was extremely hot at the time. I was amazed and delighted that in the afternoons ice creams and ice lollies were offered to all residents. The choice to decline was respected. I think this gesture by
the management team serves to illustrate the ethos I experienced at Cuttlebrook Hall, one that places the needs of each individual resident firmly at the centre of the thoughtful care on offer whilst respecting the choice to decline it. It was obvious to me that all members of staff, whatever their function within this community, knew their residents, not just their names but also their individual personalities and needs. Staff interaction with each resident was warm and kindly whatever the need. From my experience, the interaction of staff with each other was cooperative and supportive. I can honestly say that during my time in Cuttlebrook Hall I did not hear or overhear a cross word. I believe that positive interpersonal relationships are the foundation stones of any thriving community. The responsibility for establishing and sustaining such a community lies with the management team. It was obvious to me that the team at Cuttlebrook Hall was one of like-minded people with shared standards and a clear vision of what person-centred care delivered with warmth, reassurance and professionalism looks like. They are to be congratulated. Yes, undoubtedly, the beautiful environment at Cuttlebrook Hall has a substantial effect on the quality of life of the residents. However, buildings and interiors are impersonal and grow tired with time. Funding is needed for their upkeep. In contrast, the ongoing positive interpersonal relationships that form this community are longstanding. Sustaining such a community requires insight, flexibility, hard work and co-operation while keeping holistic person-centred care at its heart. What Cuttlebrook management team offers in this regard is priceless. Would I be happy to entrust Cuttlebrook Hall with the care of a vulnerable relative? Speaking from my own experience and observation of this homely community as it is at present, the answer is a resounding 'Yes'!

This amazing care home has been a lifeline to me during my husbands stay there for 8 months. They have given me back my husband as he was! He went in traumatised by several bereavements and poor mobility and he is so much improved in himself! He has been moved to another care uk home by social services-
the move was unsettling as everything was strange and new but I trust that he will have the continued excellent care there as he gets used to his new surroundings!

My Mum has been at Cuttlebrook Hall for 5 weeks and from day one has been made to feel comfortable, relaxed and cared for. On my visits I have been impressed by the courtesy and professionalism of all the staff, I am convinced that currently Mum is in the perfect place for her. She has made several
friends already and whereas life had become a bit of a struggle she is now more relaxed and content.

Mum has been in Cuttlebrook Hall for over a month now. The move went smoothly, everyone was welcoming and helpful.
Mum seems to be settling in slowly. There always appear to be plenty of friendly staff around to assist when needed.
Plenty of activities are on offer and Mum enjoys a pamper session
and being able to get her hair cut or just washed and blow-dried.
The rooms are kept in good condition and clean and Mum enjoys being wheeled around the garden areas which are well maintained.
Generally an enquiry at reception gets a helpful response and I'm impressed with the knowledge the Carers have of Mum and endeavouring to meet her needs in the best way for her.
It was a difficult decision to take, but I believe Mum is in the best place for her now and I can relax knowing she has 24 hour care.

I just felt I had to write and express my sincere thanks to all at Highmarket for making my mother's first 3 weeks at the home so happy. In that time she has improved both her physical and mental well being enormously, and is now eating like she used to!!! There is a comprehensive range of activities
on offer every day and my mother particularly enjoys the group crossword puzzles and 'silver' spinners sessions. By way of an example, on returning home at the weekend she positively leapt over the doorstep which she previously has struggled with. So a BIG thanks to all the staff - there are too many to mention in person but a special word of thanks to Ross for being so welcoming and encouraging my mother to get much fitter, and a particular member of staff and her team for the wonderful care she is now receiving. Well done to you all and thank you.

Fabulous staff, lovely environment, a caring and warm place for all. My grandfather can often be confused and become slightly dis regulated and the staff are fantastic at making him feel safe and at home. We are always met with friendly smiles and when you walk into the home, it is clean and orderly.

We have used respite a few times, we found the room, and access to her patio has been very good. She has developed some good friends, and got involved with suitable activities. Levels of cleanliness is very good. It's likely mum will go back again soon!

My mother broke her hip back in March and after spending some time in hospital, I had to find her respite, as she was going downhill in hospital. After visiting Highmarket House, they sent a nurse to assess her and she was transferred within 24 hours. My mother was very sceptical, as she was very anti
going into a care home. The staff were very welcoming and and couldn't do enough for her. It took her a few weeks to settle but after 9 weeks she asked if she could stay and didn't want to go home. She enjoys the company of staff and residents and is looked after so well. She enjoys the food and has a glass of wine with her meal. The staff go out of their way to make her feel special and look after her every needs. As a family we know she is safe and being well looked after, most importantly she is happy. We enjoy going to visit her in the bistro with coffee, drinks and cakes available. Thank you Highmarket House.

The move into the carehome went very smoothly with ALL the staff being helpful, informative, obliging and kind, and everyone providing whatever help was needed and answering our many questions and requests.
We are impressed with the standard of the building, the decor of all rooms, the well kept and

10 weeks ago my wife, who had been diagnosed with dementia, contacted Sepsis and after 14 days in hospital was discharged. However during that period she deteriorated both physically and mentally. Three weeks after she returned home, I was rushed into hospital to have my gallbladder removed, therefore
I could no longer be my wife's carer. Our daughter tried to find respite care, which proved difficult but while looking a leaflet for Charlton Lodge came through the letterbox. Within 2 hours had secured a place for my wife and she had a safe place to go while I recovered. Since then my wife has been extremely well looked after at Charlton Lodge and she has settled in and they are doing far more for her than I ever could. I am at peace, she is safe and loved by very caring staff. Because of her physical and mental difficulties, it's looking like her stay may be permanent and I will have no qualms in making Charlton Lodge her place of residence. She will be safe and well looked after.

Since Mum moved into the home I have felt she has been cared for in a friendly yet professional manner. Her care has been centred around her needs. It has been compassionate, responsive and well led. Mum has responded well to the care givers and is always grateful for their support which helps her
to be safe, clean and less anxious.
She has always been treated with dignity and respect. The staff, from the management and administrative team, care and activity teams, housekeepers and catering staff all seem to know her name and mine. They are always welcoming and friendly.
The atmosphere in the home is very happy and welcoming to both residents and visitors. Staff have been extremely helpful and responsive when I have had queries about the care. They have been a real support to me as I have transitioned from the responsibility of being the main carer to more of a support act.
Overall it has been a very positive and reassuring experience to see Mum become settled at Seccombe Court.

Dad had a 4 week respite stay at Cuttlebrook Hall in June 2025.
He was made to feel very welcome and all of the staff were incredibly friendly and supportive during his stay. The lovely staff make the atmosphere at Cuttlebrook Hall very sunny and warm with their positive and supportive outlook. The
cafe is a great place to sit and relax, the food served and service provided at mealtimes was excellent. There are plenty of activities and things to do and enjoy.
The rooms are well decorated and designed with fabulous wet rooms/bathrooms.
It was like a 5 star hotel with 5 star staff. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.
Dad really enjoyed his stay and was thoroughly impressed. It is a definite for a return visit.

My wife entered the Care home after a long period at home with dementia related issues with taking medication, diet and hygiene. These issues were dealt with in the first few weeks in Charlton Lodge.
Staff quickly recognised my wife's interests & used this knowledge to help her & open discussions.
The
room is spacious with easy access to the en-suite toilet/wash facilities and has a decent view from the window which provides some interest when the pupils are going to and from school (e.g. schools opposite & my wife was a teacher).
One minor criticism is that the 'app.' does not fully work on my laptop - although I can see photos I cannot read comments - probably my fault for not having a 'smart' phone!

My mother-on-law went for a respite stay at Cuttlebrook Hall, and is booked in for more of these.
Right from the start all of the staff have been friendly & welcoming.
The Customer Care Manager has been very attentive & helpful.
The home worked hard to accommodate her requests & needs eg. sometimes
eating meals in a quiet lounge, or providing a pendant call bell so she could spend most of the sunny days sitting or walking around the gardens. There were plenty of activities for her to choose from if she felt up to it & lots of delicious choices on the menu. All of the rooms were clean and modern, with excellent wash facilities. When an issue came up with a confused resident the home dealt with it professionally and efficiently.
Thank you very much
