Mum has been a resident at Lauder Lodge for almost 2 years. In that time she has been treated with the utmost respect and care and mum would consider her carers as friends. The care home is maintained to a high standard with lovely adjoining gardens where activities are regularly arranged. mum is encouraged
to keep mobile by taking part in keep fit sessions and to socialise with other residents in the various activities that take place. Staff exude an atmosphere of calmness and nothing is ever to much trouble.

My parents joined Cairdean at very short notice and they were very good about sorting things out quickly for them. They had a lovely welcome with food gifts provided. My father really enjoys being at Cairdean despite not wanting to go into a home, he participates in the activities, enjoys the afternoon
wine and the food. Mum has been trickier due to her condition and the staff are good at identifying techniques to manage her anxiety.
The staff are all very friendly.
Reply from Leona Thomson, Reviews Team at Cairdean HouseThank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review. It is reassuring to hear your parents are both doing well and we are supporting their journey of moving into care.

As we found, after my sister suffered a stroke, choosing a care home is a challenging task, with many perspectives to be considered. For the loved one, there is apprehension about what lies ahead, given such a major change from living in their own home or moving from hospital. Among other things,
they will be looking for a welcoming, homely, and friendly atmosphere as well as comfortable accommodation, food choices, and high levels of hygiene. After visits to several care homes, we found that Cairdean ticked all our boxes. Care is of a high standard, nursing and caring staff are capable and friendly, and the range of activities, which my sister can access, is impressive and fulfilling. The café is well stocked and spacious and welcoming for visitors, and the numerous open spaces, internal and external, give helpful variety. Our initial positive impression from the first point of contact with Leona, has been fully confirmed in the 3 years my sister has so far spent in Cairdean.
Reply from Leona Thomson, Reviews Team at Cairdean HouseThank you so much for this wonderful review and such lovely feedback. Your Sister is very much part of our family and it is so lovely to see her take part in all activities and be such an active member of our family here at Cairdean House.
Thank you once again for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback,

Since my mother moved into Murrayside Care Home a couple of years ago she continues to enjoy her life. With plenty of activities and social opportunities she is kept busy. Her en-suite room is comfortable and should she need assistance, help is just a buzzer away. The staff are always friendly and helpful
with medical help available 24 hours a day. Overall I would recommend the multi award winning Murrayside Care Home to anybody as a great place to care for the elderly.

My Mum has been in Lauder lodge for a few weeks. All of the staff are excellent very helpful and attentive with both my Mum and all her visitors. The facilities are very good with lovey gardens and cafe for everyone to enjoy. There are various activities and they are constantly looking for different
things for the residents to give them variety.
Rooms are bright and spacious and everything is spotlessly clean.
We visited a few care homes and this was by far the best

Cairdean House

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My Dad moved into Cairdean just over a month ago. It was a huge decision for our family and the prospect of finding somewhere for Dad was intimidating to begin with. Due to a change in family circumstances we needed to find a place quickly. We approached Cairdean initially due to geography and reviews.
My husband and I were able to quickly arrange a visit and were very impressed right from the start. The staff member who showed us round was excellent. We had a follow up call from the customer relations manager and were able to bring Dad for a visit very quickly after our visit. We were treated with the utmost courtesy and respect and felt our needs were understood and individualised. Dad moved into Cairdean 3 days later. The moving in went extremely smoothly and we couldn't have wished for better. Dad is settling in well and there is regular ongoing communication and we really cannot commend the staff highly enough. We feel that Cairdean cares about our family as a whole.
Reply from Leona Thomson, Reviews Team at Cairdean HouseThank you so much for this touching review. We truly appreciate such kind words and feedback, especially when Dad has joined us recently. Dad is settling very well and thank you for choosing Cairdean House for his care.

Cairdean House

from J C (Sister of Resident) published on 11 May 2026
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My friend recommended Cairdean and as it is close to family and we were keen to find a home from home for my sister who at the time, lived in a close knit community in a borders village. We were made very welcome by the lovely receptionist and business administrator and once we had decided on Cairdean,
my sister was given a room with lovely view over the garden.
Although it has taken my sister a long time to settle, with short term memory challenges and coming to terms with loss of independence and control, her mobility and general well-being has improved. She also enjoys the exercise, activities and entertainers and the recent refurbishment has contributed to the relaxing outdoor spaces.
Having said that, the many changes in staff have been difficult at times creating issues with continuity and sometimes communication can be difficult because of language barriers.
Overall, we are grateful and impressed with care given in the Scott unit, especially during her illness last year.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Cairdean HouseWe are very pleased to read that your sister’s general well-being has improved during her time at the home and that she enjoys the exercise, activities and entertainers offered.
We would like to also thank you for your kind words regarding the care provided on Scott Unit. This will be highly appreciated by the staff as they continue their hard work.

We are very sorry to read of your concern regarding staffing levels and that it has been difficult for you with changes of staff.
I would like to assure you that staff levels at Cairdean House remain in line with the appropriate identified levels based on the dependency of the home.
Whilst there has been changes to staff due to leavers and recruiting new staff, please be advised that allocations are completed daily and whilst we try to maintain consistency, this is not always possible due to the need to ensure there is an evenly distributed skill mix within the home. Cairdean is a big home, and we employ candidates through a robust procedure identifying their experience and skills to be able to provide a good service.

Please be assured that we are committed to ensuring that we maintain the high levels of care within Cairdean House and your comments will be taken on board to enable us to make changes where it identified there is a requirement.

Cairdean House

from Colin B (Nephew of Resident) published on 8 May 2026

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
When our aunt's condition and health deteriorated we discussed different options. One was for home carers on a daily basis to assist her. She did not feel comfortable with that. The thought of strangers attending was not a solution for her. A decision was agreed that we look into care facilities which
she would feel more "at home" with. The first visit was to Cairdean House. After visiting the others my aunt said "we should have just stopped at Cairdean House as it felt like home". From our initial meeting with the customer relations manager, Leona, it just felt right. My aunt quickly settled in and has not expressed any doubts. Her health and wellbeing have also improved. From our perspective we feel that as my aunt has 24 hour care and excellent facilities we have less concerns about how safe she is. Cairdean House feels like her home and not just another care facility. We have no hesitation in recommending Cairdean House to other families who want what is best for their relative.
Reply from Leona Thomson, Reviews Team at Cairdean HouseThank you so much for taking the time to give us such a wonderful review. We very much love having your Aunt and yourselves as part of our Cairdean House family. I am sure many will enjoy reading your lovely review and how your experience can help others.

I cannot speak highly enough of this care home. From the very first visit to then bringing my grandma, it was clear that the staff genuinely care about the residents and go above and beyond to create a safe, welcoming, and homely environment. The team are not only highly professional but also incredibly
kind, patient, and attentive. It's reassuring to see such genuine compassion in everything they do especially for my grandma. There are plenty of activities and social opportunities for everyone and my gran absolutely loves it. The communication is excellent, and nothing ever seems like too much trouble for the staff. Choosing a care home is never easy, but this place has been an absolute blessing for me, my family & definitely for my grandma Knowing our loved one is safe, comfortable.

My mum has moderate dementia and mobility issues and was living alone with care support. Mum moved into Cairdean at Christmas 2025 and settled in over the following 3 months. My Mum has now been a resident for 8 months and during that time we have had a great experience with regards level of care, the friendliness of the carers and the transparency of the management. My Mother has made a significant recovery and is now leading a very active and social life in the home.
The facilities within Cairdean are very well designed with a large cafe/social space along with numerous quieter areas and gardens.
Another major factor that has enhanced my Mothers stay is the amount of flexibility with regards room decoration, planting the garden and also visitors and friends. This is all very geared to ensuring the residents feel this is 'their home'.

My mum moved into Murrayside Care Home last year after a long spell in hospital. She is cared for with respect, gentleness and kindness at all times. She has a lovely bedroom and en-suite, with a large window giving natural light, and her own belongings making it familiar and personal to her. The home
is very clean, fresh and light with a welcoming and calm atmosphere. The outside space is wonderful and we make good use of it when we visit my mum and the weather is suitable. The café and balcony is another favourite spot. There's a good variety of activities for my mum to observe or participate in, along with music therapy and namaste, as well as visiting entertainment and a therapet. My mum enjoys her visits to the on-site hair salon and she always looks clean and smart.
All staff are very welcoming to us and it is so apparent that they spend quality time with my mum looking after her needs and ensuring she is content.

My Mum moved into Cairdean last October and even though she was, on several occasions, somewhat reluctant to remain there, she has now settled in very well. The staff and welcoming environment have made this such a pleasant place for Mum to live and it has given us, as a family, peace of mind to know
that she is being respected, valued and well cared for.
All the staff try very hard to meet the needs of the residents and when I was abroad recently visiting family they went out of their way to set up online meetings with my Mum so that we could keep in touch during this time.
On visiting the home there is an overall sense of kindness and patience with how the staff interact with both residents and visitors. The activity schedule is excellent and my Mum, although not able to join in some of the activities, thoroughly enjoys the ones she does attend, particularly those involving music.
Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cairdean.

Both my Mother and Father came into Murrayside 2 years ago. My Mother has sadly passed away but whilst she was there she was taken care of in a kind and compassionate way right to the end. My father has Alzheimer's and all the staff on floor one (nursing, carers, kitchen staff and cleaners) work hard
to make sure he is as comfortable as possible and his care and entertainment is tailored to his changing needs. The home has a very warm, welcoming and relaxed feeling throughout. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a place for their loved ones in their final years.
