Overall Experience
My mam has been a resident since July 2025 .
Everything isn't perfect , what is in life ! Always room for improvement .
This home has a lovely atmosphere .
The carers are so kind . All the staff from reception to cleaners , to Lisa the current care manager are friendly and will help the best they can .
My mam loves Elaine the hair dresser and her weekly hair visit . Today has been a pamper day with Rachel getting her nails done .
I always feel my mam is safe and well cared for .
From someone who has worked in care homes previously , this is most certainly the best one I have been in .
I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for care for a loved one .

Keep smiling everyone .

The care and nursing team looked after my mum at the end of her life. She was treated with care and compassion, as were were. They ensured a peaceful and dignified end, which was my greatest wish. I was with her to the end with the help of the nursing staff, who ensured that I ad the family had food and drink and a place to sleep, while not leaving mum. The staff were kind and gentle with mum and I couldn't have asked for better service. My stepfather is very grateful for the care. Thank you.

Obviously, my opinion is based on my healthcare knowledge, and personal interest in the welfare of my aged mother who is resident at DurhamGate care home. I cannot emphasise enough the impact of staff shortages which have a detrimental effect on residents' wellbeing on a day to day basis. The carers themselves are not able to spend quality time with individuals in the home. In my opinion when there are staff shortages, mistakes will be made and staff will get despondent at the amount of pressure they are under. I am aware that the recruitment side of the business of carers is very demanding, however DurhamGate has some fantastic caring staff on board... it would be shame to lose them

My mum was made to feel welcome at Durham Gate. The whole team were excellent in every way. We were reassured at the start that they would be able to manage her end of life care in the home . This was demonstrated perfectly when the time came and my mum was cared for with dignity and respect right to the end. I would have no hesitation in recommending Durham Gate.

The whole experience has been nothing short of excellent It's not just care that is given it's love and I love to see how happy and comfortable they make my mam The work undertaken is exceptional The manager and his team senior staff cleaners younger staff members are amazing It has taken me personally a lot of time to recognise that this is what mam needs but they have made me feel comfortable too my family have all been made so welcome and encouraged to engage with her asking our advice what we want for her and encouraging her to do it too
There is lots of activities on for her to do and gradually she is coming round and engaging in them The Christmas activity programme was amazing Such a lot of hard work goes in by all the staff and any worries or concerns we have are dealt with appropriately We are kept updated with everything Any correspondence Any concerns they have about mam

They ensure her dignity is preserved and her personal care we are so thankful for everything

Overall Experience
I have been visiting my Aunt for over two years at Kings Court. Every time I go I am welcomed by the lovely staff and usually see my Aunt in the shared lounge. She is happy and greets me with a smiling face. My Aunt is well cared for, her hair is always brushed and washed and cut regularly. She is well dressed, clean and warm with a rug over her knees. She has company around her and the other residents interact from time to time. There are lots of varied activities. I have helped my Aunt take part in regular Bingo and daily exercise in her chair as she has limited mobility. Meals are provided in the dining room and the food is freshly cooked and delicious with Three courses and good portions. Hot drinks are provided throughout the day and home baked snacks.
Sometimes residents are taken out on visits eg for a coffee in town or a show at the local theatre, or church service. Or further afield , maybe the seaside or garden centre.

My Aunt has settled well into life at Kings Court.

The improvement of my grandad since he has become a resident is for nominal he has went from been unable to stand , feed him self , talk , weight loss , and lack of hygiene from a previous care home to been able to say words , stand , eat on his own and has gained weight all within a month of been here , the staff are lovely, caring, and are genuinely interested in residence wellbeing and safety , would definitely recommend

From the time my wife arrived her mood and body language changed. She relaxed and became positive. This was because she was made to feel welcome. The staff have been professional, conscientious and caring. They get things done promptly, this has enabled my wife to settle quickly, and also there are many activities and areas to relaxed. My wife is lively and commutative, so her days are full of interest in order to please her, no stone is unturned. I am extremely grateful and relieved that my wife is so content.

Overall very happy with the care our mother received. Couple small issues but soon rectified. Home was warm, clean and smelt pleasant not like some others I've been in. The care our mother received towards the end was excellent and the food trays we received. Those last 2 days was a surprise and a lovely touch.

The chief had rang in the morning sick. The residents had pizzas and chips for lunch. There was general chaos as staff numbers were low. There weren't enough chips for Mam, and her pizza was cold by the time the staff were able to serve her in her room. I felt for the staff who, without a manager or deputy, had to resolve the situation. They did well and were cheerful about this. However totally unacceptable for staff & residents.

Our mam really enjoyed her stay at The Kings Court, her first few nights were a bit hard but the staff were great with her really made her feel safe and at ease which is what she needed. Would have loved her to carry on staying there as she had made some lovely friends but sadly they had no availability and we really needed it quite quickly.

Fantastic staff, so friendly and like having family members caring doe our loved one. It's nice to see the home getting updated and decorated however the lounge area could do with being regularly monitored i.e cleaned and tidied. Also if it is possible to have air fresheners dotted around the home as some walk areas can be quite pointiont (around the office and near the lift/snug area).

My mam went into Kings Court in May 25 initially for three weeks respite before going into hospital for an operation, the care mam ger there was excellent and mam settled straight away, with the staff even moving mam to a bigger room to meet her needs, after the opp it became obvious mam could not go back to her own home to look after herself, the family didn't hesitate to see if mam could go back to Kings Court, when mam returned the staff made mam so welcome. Again, the day care mam gets there is second to none, and the staff and management there are so patient and understanding of mams needs and on 30th July the put on an amazing afternoon tea for mam's 92nd birthday inviting all her family to attend, there is plenty of activities for those who want to take part, Kings Court is a lovely place where. I would highly recommend to anyone needing 24/7 care.

When Mum came out of hospital we needed a stop gap to get her stronger and ready for home and Durham Gate were able to provide that. She had a beautiful room, with home comforts, lovely food, and the space to be her. The nursing staff were discreet with her medical needs, her appointments were arranged and attended with staff when I wasn't available, and she felt comfortable during her last couple of months. Thank you all for the dignity and friendship you afforded her. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Durham Gate to anyone else in the same situation. It's a home from home.

Our mam needed End of Life care so we contacted Ventress Hall to enquire if they had any beds available. Thankfully they had a lovely room where mam spent the last two weeks of her life. The nursing care mam received was wonderful & we are very thankful to all the nursing team. All staff from the first person we had contact with to the last are a credit to Ventress Hall.

My mother was in this care home for over 8 years and I cannot think of a better place for her to have been looked after.
All the staff both past and present showed true professionalism irrespective of their tasks.

I always found the carehome to be very welcoming on all of my visits.
