I recently booked 2 weeks respite package at Ayton House and went there following surgery. I was immediately impressed by the level of care that was offered. My carers were attentive, kind and professional. Never once did I see a miserable face on them or hear a disparaging word. My room was spotlessly
clean, adequately furnished with a comfortable bed and an ensuite wet room. There was a private patio, where I could sit in the sun. Added bonuses were the balanced menu offering the choice of tasty, freshly cooked meals and a prompt and efficient laundry service. Activities were on offer, including trips in the minibus. Would I return? The answer is a resounding YES.

My mother stayed ar Martlet Manor for two weeks respite care. All the staff who cared for her are excellent in every respect - kind, considerate, attentive and professional. Her room was spacious and well furnished with a fully equipped en-suite toilet and shower. I knew that my mother was in safe,

I cannot rate the care for my father enough as it has been amazing. A big thank to all the staff who have gone above and beyond for Dad. They also make the family feel so welcome and part of their extended family. We have been kept well informed of how Dad is doing and also supported us through the
tricky times. I can't thank them enough, it's not an easy job but they make it look effortless with their level of care and attention. Thank you.

We moved the mother to Ayton House at the beginning of June 2025. She suffers from dementia, and we were worried she would not settle in this new home, but we have been so pleased that she has not mentioned her previous home at all. The staff and care she receives are marvelous, she seems to love them
all, especially the cuddles they give her. It's a very happy family atmosphere.

It took my husband a good week to settle in but the carers were friendly and compassionate from day one. When I phoned (which was often) I was always given a truthful and comprehensive rundown of how he had been each day. This was the first time my husband or I had experienced him being away from me
so it took me a while to stop worrying about him but I was always reassured to just trust in the system and be assured that he was fine, and he was ! I would definitely use Darlington court again.

A dear friend was admitted to Darlington Court, as he felt he could no longer cope at home after a couple of falls, & as his wife spent her last few months there after having a stroke it was his wish to spend his last days there too,
He found the care & attention his wife received would be the same
for him. We as friends visited him regularly & found he could not have been in a better place, the staff went out of their way to attend to his every need whether it be medical, or a friendly chat about his travels,
he was very fortunate not to suffer mentally & could hold a fascinating conversation of interest to many, sadly he grew very tired & was ready to join his wife.
The staff made his last days as comfortable as possible & we were kept informed regularly on his state of health & were able to sit with him almost to the very end. So we would like to thank all of Darlington Court for everything they did for them.

The staff has good soft skills dealing with customers ie holding the hands of customers and giving them assuring looks and making them feel at home. The staff also take initiatives to wheel bed ridden customers into dining lounges for social interactions.

I can honestly say that the care and compassion shown by all the staff at Darlington Court was brilliant from the moment my aunt moved in during May 2025. The ease of registration and getting her settled in was painless and they were excellent at communicating with me on her activities and well being.

They

treated her with great dignity and care.

My Mum has been resident at Ayton House since January. She has settled very well and has made some friends. The home is tastefully decorated in soft relaxing colours and is spotlessly clean. Her room is spacious and light, well furnished for her needs with a good en-suite. She has her own rocking
chair and other familiar items from home. Each floor is very homely with a separate lounge and a dining room laid ready for each meal, and there is a coffee lounge behind reception for residents and guests. The food served is excellent and residents have a good choice. Activities are arranged most days, and residents are encouraged but not forced to participate. Regular outings by mini bus are also a feature. Staff are friendly, proactive, cheerful and very professional, treating both residents and visitors with kindness and respect. Nothing is too much trouble, and the level of care provided is superb. I have no concerns leaving my lovely Mum in their kind and very capable hands.

Mum has dementia so caring for her can be challenging. She doesn't remember things so this review is from our perspective. She came to Ayton House in June having fallen at her previous care home and broken her hip. Unfortunately they didn't have a suitable room so we were glad to find Ayton House.
The home itself is lovely, stylish and modern with excellent facilities. Her room is spacious and comfortable with a full en suite and a terrace. The garden is lovely. From our perspective the staff are friendly, caring and above all patient. Having cared for mum ourselves, we know it isn't always easy so we could not ask for more. Mum is kept fully occupied with varied activities and has company whenever she wants it, she was lonely, unhappy and isolated at home and found it difficult to cope although she doesn't always remember that. The food appears to be good and she eats well. She seems happy in the moment and mixes well. We hope she will eventually completely settle.

I have to say that it was with great reluctance that I agreed to my husband becoming a resident of Darlington Court back in July 2024. We had managed at home but after continuous falls and stays in hospital I realised that my husband needed 24 hour nursing care to help with his advanced dementia and
progressing prostate cancer.
Darlington Court became home - not just for my husband but for me too. I was able to visit every day (at any time) and made to feel part of the family. Both of us were always treated with love and respect.
There is a special aura as soon as you walk through the front door of Darlington Court, of helpfulness, love and compassion. All the staff - even the 'backroom staff' - maintenance man, the chef and cleaners take a genuine interest in the residents. Sadly my husband passed away in June and my 'Darlington family' have dealt with everything in a professional and loving manner. And I am grateful that they continue to keep a watchful eye on me.

I had fractured my ankle and was in rehab in the hospital. I was receiving physio, but only 3 times per week and only for 10 minutes per session. My fitness was not impressive and was unlikely to improve anytime soon. My husband approached Martlet Manor, and they agreed I could move there and receive
intensive physiotherapy. Within 2 weeks, I was fit enough to return home. I would like to thank all at Martlet Manor and especially the physio.

Both my parents have been residents at Darlington Court since April 2025. We have found all the staff and management to be very helpful, kind and caring and always seem to be in great spirits even though it is obviously an extremely demanding task. My mother has dementia and has responded exceptionally
well to, and joins in most of, the many daily activities on offer. It is of great comfort to my father and the rest of the family to see how involved and active she despite her deteriorating condition. They have both said the food is good and staff are flexible in meeting any specific requirements they may request from time to time. My dad struggles to eat full meals but enjoys the occasional chocolate eclair! Darlington Court has been a great choice for them when they were no longer able to cope at home.

Chichester Grange

from L R (Sister of Resident) published on 11 July 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5
My sister has been in the Care home a few months now. She is a little forgetful, but otherwise likes to be active. She is full of praise for the staff, the food and general care, but she is restless and feels somewhat regimented: television, sitting about , and singalongs are not really her cup of tea.
Having been in a residential apartment before coming to you, she enjoyed taking a taxi into the city, where she would visit the cathedral and listen to the music or walk around the park. She could also make tea or have a snack in her room when she wanted.
She loves the theatre and concerts, and has taken part in many activities in her full life.
Do you run a choir, or have local musicians in to perform in any way? Is there an art class where skills can be improved?
Are there visits to local places of interest?
Keeping active and stimulated seems vital to keep going, with something to look forward to during the week.
This is not a complaint, merely food for thought.
