Hawkhurst House

from Sue B (Daughter of Resident) published on 15 September 2025
Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
Mum arrived at Hawkhurst House back in June 2025 due to the deterioration of her dementia. Although it took her a while to settle we could not have asked for a better place or team to help look after her well-being. The home is so beautiful and so welcoming with everything done to make that hard transition
as easy as possible. The staff were second to none they were excellent from the greeting you received by the receptionist, to the management team, all carers, nurses, entertainment team to cleaners, literally every person you came across were amazing and obviously loved there work. Mum only had a short time with the home as she sadly passed away mid August but I honestly don't think I could have chosen a better place. Mum was seen smiling, laughing and joining in with all the brilliant activities which I had not seen in a long time and that's all thanks to the brilliant Hawkhurst House team. Thank you all and keep up the excellent work.
Reply from Chris Walton-Turner, Manager at Hawkhurst House

Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback. As you say, your Mum was only with us for a very short time, but she quickly became part of the family - involving herself with chores and activities and having a good old chat and laugh with residents, staff and visitors. She is very much missed by us all and we can only thank you for choosing Hawkhurst House and entrusting your Mum to our care.

My Mum was evicted from Hospice in the Weald for being too well. She had a perforated bowel and bowel cancer ,and was admitted for end of life care.to Cornford House. The excellent caring and hard working staff managed to turn two very upset people into two positive and happier people in two days...!!
The kindness and love we felt at times was almost overwhelming at times.
Special thanks to the nurses for being there when we needed you most ,and for being so professional and loving at the same time. Also huge thanks to two other members of staff for their care, love, support and kindness. It was a hard journey made bearable by you all and I will never forget you
Now I go to help my Uncle fight his prostate cancer.I hope I am strong enough..

The care at Hazeldene House is exemplary in every way. My husband was treated with care, compassion and dignity throughout his final days. The staff checked on him regularly and ensured that he was free from pain. They also found time to look after me. I can't thank them enough.
Reply from Katie Wickison, New Resident Manager at Hazeldene House

Thank you so much for the very kind feedback. I know I speak on behalf of the whole team when I say it was a pleasure looking after your Husband, when he smiled it would light up the room. I remember meeting you for the first time, knowing how worried you were about what the future held for your husband and the difficult decision you had to make. I am so pleased we were able to offer him a place at Hazeldene and support you in the process.

My mother-in-law had a 2 week respite stay after her care home closed suddenly.
Cotswolds Rise supported the transfer of residents and professionals to this new home with grace and compassion.
Mother-in-law enjoyed her stay and felt she was a favorite with staff before moving back in county.
Thank
you for bantering with her and making her feel special.

The Laurels & Pine Lodge

We attended a family day last week. It's unfair to single people out because SO much effort was put in by so many people, but their team put in an incredible amount of work (I witnessed it from early that morning) preparing for the afternoon of fun. I sat in a group of five residents three of whom
had family with them. We had a brilliant afternoon, happy, cared for and stimulated. With this level of care and love, I am not surprised that my relative has improved beyond recognition since arriving at this home six months ago.
By the way, it's difficult to pay tribute to people just by using their initials!

My husband was a resident in Newland care home for three years. I am so grateful to all the staff for the care and understanding that was given to him. I and my family were always treated kindly and my husband was happy and contented whilst he was there. Looking back I feel so glad that my first impression
of Newland proved correct - a warm happy and caring home and we could not have found a better place. Thank you.

My Husband went into Belford House in October 2024 It was quite a Traumatic time for all of us but a decision I will never regret, The home is lovely a real Home from Home and I cannot speak highly enough about the staff. When my husband first went in it was a massive change for him and with his Dementia
there were some problems but the staff were so patient and careing he soon settled down. There is a real atmospher when you go in, its airy, light, and comfortable. The staff are Happy the residents are happy a place when you feel safe and that is something to be proud of I would not hesitate to recomend Belford House

I have been in hospital a few times but never a nursing home only as a visitor to see my late brother and was not impressed, so when I broke my my hip and wrist and was told I was going to Springfield for rehab I didn't know what to expect! But this is home from home. I could not have been treated better
everything is perfect, care, food, treatment, the staff, cleanliness etc. The carers cannot do enough for you and go above and beyond their duties to help. As I said to one the other day if you gave me a sheet of blank paper to list my complaints I would return it back blank because there is nothing to complain about at all, thank you all everybody, keep up the good work. And I hope what I have written is proof of how sincere I am, I cannot thank you enough.

My mum is been a permanent resident and has been there for 6 weeks and has settled very well (has wobbled a couple of times - to be expected).
Staff are excellent in their compassion and understanding.
There is always a wide range of activities going on including days out with no pressure to join
in.
The house is stunning with 2 conservatories with beautiful grounds and garden which my mum particularly enjoys.
Mum has a lovely room with a view that she adores watching wildlife.
It was mum's birthday a few days ago and we had a afternoon tea with family which was fantastic and all arranged smoothly.
The food is wonderful and mum who is a picky eater is very happy.
It's taken time to get to this position but with the help of all the staff we are beginning to feel much more relaxed in handing over mum's care and being able to enjoy family time with her again.
Thoroughly recommend.

Mum and dad came to live at Bethel House in 2021, when they could no longer cope at home due to ill health, dad in heart failure with severe hearing loss and mum with advanced Alzheimers.
By the time we lost dad in Feb 2024 and mum in June 2025 the care home had become a second home and the staff like
friends. Both my parents' needs were so different, but the care home did everything it could to help them spend their final years together as a couple, for which I am grateful.
The meals are good and the activities plentiful and whilst residents do have many complex needs, they are treated with dignity and care.

A frail small elderly lady of 98 years old with minimal sight, registered blind. The care staff handed her, full to the brim, large heavy mug of hot tea. A health & safety hazard. Not managing the weight & minimal hand & eye co-ordination. Fear of scalding herself. I was informed she was not eating
much. She will eat if given encouragement & minimal prompts & told the cooks do not poison residents. I reiterated, the cooks are not poisoning her. they are well qualified & stringent systems are in place . I gave her a banana, assured her it was fresh ,assisted her with hand & eye co-ordination, she ate it all. Training required. The lounge had 5 residents in who were enjoying communicating with each other & relatives . A Carer came in & switched the TV on. She did not ask any of them for permission. One lady said, "she can switch that off, we don't need that. Another said, I cannot hear you now. Not respecting residents wishes she sat & WATCHED the TV.
Some one has to be their voice.

We are so very lucky to have found this home. Both our parents have been here. This November they will have been here 4 years and we have not for one moment worried about either of our parents. Sadly we lost mum recently and the end of life care for Mum was incredible. The staff and the management are
so caring and kind. We stayed two weeks here by mums bedside and the staff were so gentle with us whilst caring for Mum. The teams and of course the Management keep us up to date constantly and are very supportive. Dad is very happy and content here in his own little world and we cannot thank everyone enough.
Reply from Chris Walton-Turner, Manager at Hawkhurst House

Thank you so much for the very kind feedback. I know I speak on behalf of the whole team how much we loved looking after your Mum and continue to try and ensure your Dad feels part of the Hawkhurst House community. I remember meeting you all for the first time nearly four years ago and how worried you were about what the future held for your parents. I am so pleased we were able to offer them a place to be together and the time you were able to have with your Mum at the end. I know it has been hard at times coming back in to Hawkhurst House to see your Dad but we are glad you continue to be part of our family.
