NEGATIVE ISSUES :- entrance needs coded key pad, staff have to leave patients/residents to let you in- can be waiting along time. Rooms are basic, needs new bed tables, they are old and don't go up or down. New toilet seat, it is wooden and well stained.

POSITIVE ISSUES :- a very friendly, welcoming environment, staff and volunteers are great, if a problem arises they do try and address it. Food varies but on balance good.

Overall Experience
I have been coming to Forth Bay Nursing Home as volunteer on a monthly basis for over two years. During this time, I have been impressed by the care and support that staff provide to the residents.
There is an 'extended family feel' about the place.
On one occasion a resident became very distressed and a member of the support staff immediately comforted the individual had spent as long as was necessary to make sure that they started to feel better.

If I was unfortunate enough to require care support myself, I would not hesitate in applying to this Nursing Home.

I have a very pleasant and enjoyable time each time I visit my Mum. We are always warmly greeted and offered tea or coffee.

I am well informed of any changes in mum and she is calm and well looked after although she sometimes looks as though she hasn't had her hair washed or brushed

Scoonie House has been a great place for my mum to be, the staff are all so caring for her and also amazing for our whole family. The home has always been very clean and tidy. The most important thing is that my mum is happy there. We all see so many negative stories regarding care homes but this is the total opposite at Scoonie House. Our family can't thank the staff enough.

Reply from Rowen Campbell, on behalf of the team at Scoonie House

Dad came in to Scoonie House January 2026. He was welcomed warmly by staff, shown to his room and offered coffee, cake and an ice cream cone (his favourite) on arrival. Staff did their best to make him feel at home, and nothing was too much trouble. He is warm, comfortable and safe and I have found the staff to be attentive and very kind at all times. His room is well equipped ensuite, and cleaning daily. He is enjoying his food, and has the option to eat in his room or in the the dining room. I am very happy and relieved to have found Scoonie House for dad!

Reply from Rowen Campbell, on behalf of the team at Scoonie House

Most things are very good. The only complaint I have heard from a few of the residents is that the quality of the food and the variety is not very good.

My mother has been in Forth Bay Nursing Home for over a year. The building has a pleasant exterior appearance, and my mother's room is very comfortable. All staff members of every grade are very friendly. The carers and head nurses on Cramon Ward look after my mother really well and are genuinely affectionate towards her. Although bed bound my mother is well looked after and has a good quality of life. I visit mum almost every day. It's a pleasant experience all round.

Mostly I am pleased with my mothers care. I have noticed that weekends the residents don't have any activities and are just sitting about. There is always room for improvement. New staff my not have the aptitude for caring, perhaps more training needed.

Whenever we visit (frequently) the home is clean and tidy and staff are around and friendly. Mum is also comfortable and clean and tidy. We are kept aware of what is happening socially and with regard to our mum. There are lots of visitors - youngsters and entertainers to amuse the residents and there are also lots of outings arranged to lunch clubs. Regular visits from medical staff are reassuring. The meals (and regular treats) are of a very high standard.

Mum is still enjoying her time at Scoonie House. The facilities are top notch and well-matched by the staff working there. To know Mum has this high level of care gives us great peace of mind. The activities are varied and great for mum - Mary's meals are always a great success! All in all, I can't speak highly enough of Scoonie House and its staff.

My father-in-law has been here now for 7 months and has settled really well. He loves being outdoors and Scoonie has been able to fulfil this through lots of activities in the garden, enabling him to access the garden when he wanted to. Also loves his trips out to local venues. Staff are very friendly, kind and caring.

Everyone cared for my grandma with great pride and support. In my grandma's final days, we were overwhelmed with support and love from the carers. Nothing was a bother to them. They gave my grandma the dignity she deserved! I cannot recommend Scoonie House more. A fantastic team. My grandma loved the team and was always encouraged to be herself. Thank you all.
